Original 1966 Jaguar E-Type - First Start in 52 Years! - Episode 17
Переглядів 9 тис.11 місяців тому
The big day finally came. It was time to see if all of the hard work on reviving this engine - without rebuilding or restoring it - would pay off. After years of tinkering on the car to clean out rotten fuel, clogged coolant passages, old engine oil, and just gently freshening up all of the systems that make the engine run - I was very anxious to see if the engine would start and run. Enjoy - a...

We're getting REALLY close now! This episode looks at all of the final prep work that we need to do in order to finally give this old girl a try. You'll see that we run into several challenges along the way with small leaks and things, but we'll solve all of those little issu...
Jaguar E-Type - 1966 OTS Roadster - Episode 15 - Exhaust System
Переглядів 1,4 тис.11 місяців тому
Before we can try to start the car for the first time in over half a century, I need to get an exhaust system on it! And in this video I FINALLY get the exhaust problem solved. This E-Type is the ONLY E-Type I have ever personally seen that still had its original exhaust system intact, and I was determined to save as much of it as I possibly could! There is alot of detail in this video - maybe ...
Jaguar E-Type - 1966 OTS Roadster - Episode 14 - Turning the Engine by Hand
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
The next thing we needed to do was make sure that the engine was free after all these years, by turning it over by hand. As you can see in the previous episodes in this series, I did ALOT of prep work to make sure that this process went smoothly and nothing inside of the engine was damaged in the process. This video looks at some additional steps we took just to be safe, and there are several t...

Next, I took out the distributor, checked all of the components, cleaned, it, and re-installed. My intention with the car is to disturb as little as possible, while doing the work that we have to do in order to get the car running and driving again. Pulling the distributor didn't REALLY need to happen, but I did it for safety's sake. In my collection of used E-Type parts, I have run across many...

Переглядів 2,3 тис.Рік тому
This is the first of two episodes that show the restoration of the original exhaust system that the car left the factory with. The factory exhaust on E-Types did not last long, and it is very rare to have these original pieces still intact. You'll find that "the books" really don't even show the original exhaust components - and the few photos in the most recent "Porter" originality book are of...

Hi Chuck, Gary from England again, I ve commented a couple of times, when I was going through college I worked in a Panel shop for Saturday job and a couple of afternoons in the week. I got pretty good at bodywork and even did some jobs on customers cars privately. I was told to shrink panel by using a slapper type device made from a large metal course file, to make this file slapper you have heat the file and then bend it to a shape like your slapper in the video, then you can use it to glance blows on the metal with a flick of the wrist around the damaged area trying to shrink the metal. not an up and down action on to the panel, have you heard or seen this method I descripe using the modified file ??, I'm talking arounf 1977 when I working the the panelshop. Any thoughts, Cheers Gary

Britain had an amazing auto industry but lacked competent management and Union cooperation, they had a quantity mentality rather than quality mentality, who else produced a car like the MGB, nobody and when I heard they were dissolving MG, I thought the Brits have lost the plot and have, look at Britain today, they make nothing compared to their mighty industrial past, I was young enough when these E Types came out along with the XJ6, they were revolutionary as far as styling and technology goes, Britain should have today a mighty car industry equal to Japan and Germany if they as a nation had a capable management class and responsible Unions.

I used Evaporust on my 65 gas tank. Filled it up with 15 gallons. Let it sit 3 days and flushed out with water and immediately filled with gas to avoid flash rust. Also sucked up the Evaporust through the fuel pump u to the bowl. Amazing how clean it got without having to remove the tank. Also rebuilt the fuel pump and used the Evaporust. Worked well!

Very nice and interesting video, thank you Chuck. As for securing the chrome crown, you can use self tapping screws directly into the wing and bonnet panels. I elected to use captive nuts BD86333, slipped between those and your flanges. They are tighten to the bonnet sheet by the screws. This requires to dig bigger holes into the flanges to clear the threads of the captive nuts, but it allows for some play in the holes alignment. The goal is to be able to dismount and mount the headlights several times without wearing the threads.

Hello, say these videos are the best I have seen on youtube. What I mean is, reconditioning of a Jag, A car is only original one time. Many cars on this site are all pretty and very clean. They live in a garaged ,forever. Driven only to go to shows. I love British cars,Jags,Mg ,tr6 and my car a Rovertc2000 1969.Back in school (UCLA1976) , many of my friends drove Jag,austin Healy,TR'6 etc. We had a blast in those cars. While other guys where driving chevys, ford etc. Your videos make laugh to watch your excitement ,I also enjoy it when I fixed something, and it works I get very excitement. I glad I found your videos, and will watch them over and over. However, I changed from Britsh cars, to VW,s .And enjoy working on them. So keep up your enthusiasm and get those cars back on the road, to drive !

I just finished installing this conversion kit to my 1968 Series 1.5. Here's a few thing I noted/did differently. 1. Instead of revetting or gluing the flanges, I used #6 x 3/4" stainless machine screws with nyloc-nuts so I can unbolt the if needed. This method made it a lot easier to install the scopes in the bonnet BEFORE attaching the flanges. To ensure the screw heads are covered over the rubber gasket/chrome trim, make sure that any holes you drill (the holes that need to be drilled where the S2 chrome trim eye brows where that had not holes) are as close to the flange as possible. 2. I painted the flanges the red body color, but after I installed the first headlight, I realized that I could see some red under the covered headlight. So I painted the other flanges on the other side black to match the rubber gasket (I need to go back and paint the other side black when I get a chance). 3. My original diaphragms had a groove a the top to clear the flange on the wing and flange on the center of the bonnet. The new diaphragms didn't have a groove in them. I used a cut-off wheel to make the same groove to provide the clearance (no big deal). I also need to "hog out" some of the holes on the diaphragm with a Dremel tool as they didn't line up with the mounting holes on the bonnet (probably production variations on the hole placement of my bonnet). None of it was a big deal. 4. I used Chuck's plastic lenses and they flex right into shape, just like Chuck said and they look great. I attached the rubber seal and chrome trim with #6 X 3/4" Stainless Sheet Metal Screws with a Pan Head Phillips pattern 5. I removed the scissor/spring assembly to get room to remove the diaphragm panel. If you do one side a time, you only need to removed one scissor/spring assembly at any given time, so it allow some resistance when you close the bonnet (be careful not to pinch your fingers as the bonnet is noticable heavier without one side of the help springs). 6. When installing the headlight buckets with the flat back, you also need to use a Series 1 inner mounting bucket, which is different from the Series 1.5 or Series 2. If you use the Series 1.5 inner mounting bucket, the head lights will be rotated about 30 degrees off (may not be a big deal except when you hit the high beams!). So just plan on buying not only the flat back bucket for a Series 1 but also the inner mounting bucket. The best price I found was a SNG Barret. 7. The hardest part (None of this has anything to do with the conversion kit) was scraping off all the undercoating to get to the screws and bolts. I found that if I used a very small screw driver, I could scrape all the undercoating between the screw head and the diaphragm/oval washer. I would then spray WD-40 and scrape more and spray more WD-40 (3 times). The method would get almost all the undercoating off but a screw driver still had a hard time to break the screws free. To avoid stripping the head, I used a Vise-Grip on the screw head and twisted them free (often with a Crescent wrench on the Vise-Grip - e.g. Vise-Grip was vertical to the screw head and I put a Crescent Wrench to the Vise-Grip Handle) This work on all but the one screw on a corner where the Vise-Grip jaw did not have the clearance - So I had to use a Posi-Drive screw driver and Crescent wrench on the handle (very carefully not to strip the screw head). In a sense I am lucky that my car is rust-free and none of the screws/bolts were rusted on or the sheet metal was rusted. 8. Overall, I am very happy with the conversion kit and it was well worth the effort!

This bonnet from my coupe 1E34263 was built on February 9, 1967. From what I’ve read, the coupes started open headlamps (at least LHD) at 1E34250. So even though we’re in February of ‘67, it’s very early in open head lamps for coupes. If they started on January 1, 1967, maybe they were doing roadsters or RHD coupes or 2+2s. Some people have suggested to me that you could have a ‘67 E type with covered headlamps from the factory if it was European specifications. I don’t know if that’s true or not. At any rate, thanks for another great presentation explaining a complicated subject with your typical humor and panache.
