The terrible commentary absolutely gives this swerve away, the way they talk about him retiring as he walks to the ring makes it obvious that he isn't. If he was really retiring they would say something like "i wonder why Mark Henry is coming out here", so the viewer would be shocked with the reveal like they did with Edge. And JBL saying "that's the only title Mark Henry hasn't won"...for fucks sake.

this was awesome. no doubt. but god damn its depressing to remember how WWE was back then. after this I knew Cena was gonna beat him like he beat everybody else for 8 years at that point and it was just what the fuck ever.

The crazy thing is he really could've ended it here I think Mark's career would've had an ideal finish. He had a phenomenal 2011 run, got a bit mediocre in 2012, then came back in 2013 with a bang beating Ryback at Wrestlemania. Everything after this promo sadly was purely mediocre downfall in my opinion.

IMO not giving the WWE title to this Mark Henry was a big mistake. He deserved one last run as a world champion.

Aj Styles was nothing compared to this, nothing, a pale imitation that fans didn't really believe. This is one of the greatest promo's in history. Nobody saw the swerve comming because Henry was absolutely stellar in this. The emotion and sincerity in his delivery is believable and so was his run up in the company just before this to announce his retirement. It really is a perfect moment made perfection by the performance of one man.
