Aglaonema Not Doing Well? Try This!
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
Is your Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) not growing well, dropping leaves, and not putting on size? First rule out over/under-watering and a light issue. Next check for pests. If none of these problems exist, it is time to take the plant out of the pot and look at the roots. Most Aglaonema plants are made from grouped rooted cuttings, and these cuttings are planted into the nursery pots with the ...

Переглядів 947Рік тому
This video is about how to treat your houseplant for black leaf mold or black leaf fungus. This mold fungus occurs on the undersides of leaves and is usually from high humidity/ increased plant transpiration and poor air circulation. Black leaf mold is common on Aglaonemas, Scheffleras, and can occur on other kinds of houseplants. It is easy to cure and all you need is dish soap, a rag and some...

Thank you for all of your wonderful instructions. I greatly appreciate the help in taking care of this beautiful plant. With you instructions, I have managed to successfully transplant it into another pot. Thank you for all of your help.
Do you encourage the new fronds to open manually by manipulation or just shaking them open like they are outside in the wind?
I would marry you
My parlour palm is drying from roots to leaves one by one. I brought it 2 months ago, I keep it in indirect sunlight and away from window. I keep it where it can get enough indirect natural light and I water it once in every 15 days and i give it a water spray once in every 3-4 days but don't know why it is dying one by one. Please suggest what to do. I cutted all the dead leaves and it has now very less leaves and I live in Germany.. How can I save it please reply
Hi! The one you wondered if it is "Romeo" looks exactly like one that was sold to me as "Mystic Silver Marble". It has whitish stems, while Romeo's are green.
Another very helpful video. I'm on my 2nd peace lily and it's barely hanging on. I have it in pon right now. It's very small, only have about 4 leaves left. I'm thinking of completely putting in water to save it. Just not sure right now.
This video is very helpful. I finally found a cast iron plant. I didn't know there were 2 other varieties. I only knew about the milky way. So they're all now on my wish List. Thank you for sharing!
What mix are you using to grow it in?
I have a north facing window. Is that going to be an issue. My first time owning a majestic.
How do you propagate the rhizomes that grow from the soil of this plant?
Perfect 😊
Um..so i bought my palm yesterday and i was all on board until she starting speaking on spirder bites..needless to say, im taking it back..im petrified of of spiders...totally disappointed
What in the hell is a spider mite?!!😳😳🥺
These you buy new when they die.
Thanks so much for all this info, Stephanie! I just adopted my brother's majesty palm and your video answered all my burning questions. I really appreciate you showing us your palm- it really helps me as a visual learner, and it gives me hope that in a few years my sad palm will be majestic like yours! I started watching your other videos (so many plants!), but didn't see all so just wondering if you have any citrus trees and, if you do, how you care for them. Thank you!
Best informative video! 💙
Greetings! I bought a majesty palm at the beginning of summer 2024. It's been on my patio the entire time. It's the 1st day of fall, time to bring it in. Yesterday I noticed a mushroom growing on top of soil. I removed it. My question is...should I repot it THEN treat for pests or treat pests 1st? Also, I have a 2nd majesty on my patio as well. Do you think the mushroom spores could've infected my 2nd palm. What to do about yellow leaves on one of the palms? Do you think fertilizer would improve its appearance? Many Thanks!❤ Your palm is simply stunning
Thank you, just got one. I was born and raised near Mansfield, OH. Now I live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Quite a learning curve!
What store did you purchase your beautiful plants? I’m in Michigan, I will travel to Northern Ohio ! !
my god I've never seen someone so excited to show their plants before

Thanks for the valuable info! Would you say the majesty palm prefers higher watering frequency irrespective of the soil? For example, I have a majesty palm in a general potting mix and find that soil stays damp for at least 3 weeks after each watering. It gets plenty of indirect light throughout the day, though it's growth & appearance have been stagnant for several months. I've heard some people suggest "half" watering (stopping before water starts coming out the drainage hole), that way you can water more frequently and the plant would prefer this. Thoughts?
So they virtually sell you a plant that is doomed? I get that it is faster to plant 3 or 4 in the one pot to make a larger plant and then able to get a better price but they use plastic? Why not use the jiffy pots that degrade then everyone is happy.
Amazing ! ….Where did you bought it ? 😊
I picked up my Majesty Palm from Lowe’s for $15 a month ago. I’m giving it some outside time but keep it inside most days. I have 2 new fawns and one it’s almost fully open. Hopefully it thrives inside through the Winter. It already has its own grow light once I figure out where I’ll keep it in my house.
3 separate plants fresh potting soil good indirect lighti
Thanks for sharing this
This is SO amazing, I have a Ghost Frost just like this, and it's not going anywhere good , last night I discovered root cages in my Pink Aurora, which was also suffering, will investigate tomorrow, what a Godsend, I was just googling
I love it, great formate
Where did you purchase your plants?
I really enjoyed you video. Next time please share where you bought the plant from !
I live in Northeast Ohio. I live in Willoughby and luckily and knock on wood. I've never had insect problems for my majesty palm but I believe I did kill it because I cut the roots because I thought they were rotten, he's slowly dying and I feel so bad cuz I had him for 3 years. But I'm going to go out and purchase another one lol
Yea there is always a learning curve with everything, don’t feel too bad. The next one will prosper from what you’ve learned! 💚
Please put down in the description the type of fertilizer and spray you use for spider mites
Hello, you said you use espoma fertilizer indoor, do you use just the regular indoor plant food or do you use the espoma for Palms?
Hello, I use the espoma Indoor in the bright green bottle
Depending on your zone I’m 9B and I just leave it outside all season. I have it in the patio and on my porch. Some nights are in the 20s.
I opened your channel hoping for a new video ❤
I also live in northern Ohio. I thought this could last outside in colder than 65 degrees.
Hello! Yes, they absolutely can survive less than 65. When nights are consistently in the 50s, the plant starts to get cold damage and may start to die. I bring mine in early because I like to keep them looking as perfect as I can, so once the nights dip below 60 I bring them in.
I really enjoyed your video! You are a pro and your plants show it! Love your house!❤❤
Thank you so much!
This is without a doubt, the most easy to understand explanation of lighting I have ever seen! I really hope you come back and start posting again. You have a lot to offer and I for one am anxious to learn. Your plants are gorgeous as is your home and along with your soothing voice making your videos so wonderful to watch. I do hope you come back.
Can I break apart a triple trunk into three pots?
Hi, yes you should be able to. Just make sure the trunks aren’t fused at the base (like, you don’t have to cut them apart with a saw) and *try* to be as gentle as you can with the roots. It will be traumatic for the plant, so try to cause as little collateral damage as you can
Actually Brown Tips Could Mean A Humidity Issue. FYI..
Yes, you are correct, for a plant like Calathea or begonia that requires very high humidity. Most palms like high humidity, but can tolerate moderate humidity well. The most common reason for brown tips in plants that tolerate low to moderate humidity is overwatering (or in the case of dracaena chorine sensitivity) 💚
I love your plants we have similar taste. Love watching a house plant tour that looks like an actual home with old plants and not a someone selling a bunch of cuttings everywhere looking like a nursery. haha. my favorite is a parlor Palm too I got one even bigger than yours in a 12-inch pot and I've been wondering if I need to repot. I think you answered my question lmao.
Thank you! That’s awesome your parlor palm is so huge! I’d love to see it. I think they are SO underrated as houseplants
They survived it’s like in the 40’s at night when can I bring them back out?
Yay!! I would put them outside again when the nights don’t dip below 50, closer to 60 if you really want to be safe
@@allhouseplants ok thank you for the reply
So pretty ❤ did you purchase this from costa farms or a nursery? I just purchased one & it's on the way. So excited to get it!
Good luck! I got mine from a local garden center
I bought one from Home Depot recently and it was extremely root bound. I could not loosen them by hand and opted not to cut any of them off while repotting in a larger pot with fresh soil. Was this a mistake? Should I saw/cut off a portion of the roots?
No, you don’t have to cut the roots of a bound plant. The pros go back and forth on that. Loosening them helps the new roots spread out faster, but damaging them too much can be dangerous for the plant 🤷♀️ What is important is that when you water, water by the base of the plant to soak that rock hard ball of roots, but also water well on the edges to attract roots OUTWARD outside of the ball. Roots naturally seek moist soil, that’s why it’s important to water all over the top of the pot to distribute it evenly.
Impressed. Regards from Minahasa, Indonesia
Thank you! Thanks for watching and commenting!
How much are these worth? I just bought one and wondering if i got a good price.
Well, I paid $500 for mine. I would’ve liked to purchase a smaller less expensive one, but they were out of stock. That being said, that’s not a decision I would make again. Good luck with yours! 💚
I just got a variegated Fiddle Leaf Fig in the mail today so I was researching their care. I'm not sure what's causing the brown edges, but one thing I learned from a Fiddle Leaf Fig group on fb is that double potting can cause problems. You could try taking it out of the decorative pot. Also, check out Professor Monstera. I followed a lot of his advice for Monsteras for my regular Fiddle Leaf Fig's and have had great success. He recommends Azos and ph Up or Ph down as needed. You could try checking the ph. Also using an indoor plant light for 12 hours a day may help along with a humidifier. One lady from the group recommends 12 hours of darkness in addition to the supplemental light. I also started adding mycorrhizae for 6 weeks til it's established. (not sure if that's the same as Azos or not). You might want to treat for spider mites too. I thought I saw some on the leaf. I use Ocean Forest soil and modify with Biochar, pumice and sand. I do a Superthrive root soak before potting. I also started using a moisture meter for water. I am not sure if you have the plant still but I was thinking maybe propogate the top and try starting over. Thanks for sharing and I hope yours is doing better! 🤗🪴✨
@@allhouseplants$500,-?!?!?!?!?! Ohl Lord. That’s insane.
I love that 2 toned Aglaonema in your bedroom!! They are one of my very best favorite house plants. And that Golden Papya!! And I started drooling when the Ag. Chocolate came out!! OMG!! Where did you find one, may I ask?? I have never seen so many varieties of Aglaonemas in one home!! I love them all!! I am so sorry to hear about your bug issue. All your plants are so lovely. Do you use a a systemic? Bonides Systemic will keep that out of control issue from happening again. That Dracenea is show stopping!! Glad that one pulled through.
Yes, I love Aglaonemas too, they are so underrated in the houseplant community! The 2 tone I bought at Lowe’s, and the Golden Papaya and chocolate I bought at a local garden center called Petitti’s. Yea the bugs have really gotten me down lately. I’m always fighting with spider mites, and I’m pretty sure I’ve had thrips recently too. I’ve tried the systemic, but didn’t seem to work that well for me, but maybe I should try it again, I’m sure I still have it. Thanks for your comments!
Just came across your channel tonight and I must say you have not only a beautiful home, but a gorgeously kept collection of plants!! I am an avid Aglaonema fan as well! And I agree they are greatly under rated! I am also a Peace Lily fan! I have a few varieties of both these genus's. I LOVE all your magnificent windows!! And I would certainly have a Fiddle leaf Fig like yours if I had those windows! What a gorgeous plant! And I love how you have the Rio growing in the bottom! I did have a palm that I would have loved to play with, it have sharp edges and would cut me if I did. I never had any luck with palms. I look forward to watching how all your plants do and all the new ones you get.
I have several varieties of Aglaonema, & they are doing well. My only Aspidistra, however, has mostly browning leaves. I've had it for a year & a half. It sits below a high west window. I use a moisture meter to make sure I'm not over-watering. There is little new growth. It doesn't look good. I would discard it, but I had to send away for it & pay $30, so I'm not quite ready to give up on it.
I hear you they aren’t cheap. I’m not super familiar with moisture meter use because I dont have one, but it does check deep into the pot, right? The bottom 1/4 of pots tend to hold a bit of water, even if you have drain holes, something about physics and water molecule properties. Anyway, my next ideas would be check it carefully for spider mites as they are prone. Also any drafts or house too cold? Last idea would be too much sun if it gets any intense afternoon sun from the window. Good luck, hope he pulls through! Oh, last last idea is too much fertilizer. They are very slow growing and don’t need much.
@@allhouseplants Thank you for responding. Yes, the post on the moisture meter is 10-12" long. The plant sits below a high window, so direct sunlight does not reach it. I just checked for spider mites, but I don't see any mites or webs. I have been fertilizing once a month, along with my other plants. So far, I am only confirming my friend's opinion that Aspidistra are ugly.😒
Soo beautiful ❤😘😊
Thank you! Appreciate your comments!
