I think the Welsh accent has mellowed since the making of this series in 1975. The pronunciation of words like Morgan are now without the rolling "R" so it's Morgan not MoRRgan. That is common nowadays. What with the internet and global communication local dialect is being deminished. I have noticed my own Children using Americanised Vowels "A" instead of "O". And one more thing.. Ivor in Wales Is pronounced EYEVOR not Evor that rhymes with Egor!

Beautiful. A window on the world of our recent past in the valleys of Wales and by extension of all mining communities in the UK before the demise of this once mighty and iconic industry. It weaves a powerful and credible story of how our ancestors lived through their daily economic and personal struggles. It is a thoroughly uplifting watch with tears and much joy along the way. Great acting and fantastic dialogue. 5 hours truly well spent providing plenty of food for thought and in my case fond memories of when it was first broadcast in the mid 1970s.

Ah ya would miss Stu wouldn't ya. RiP Stuart ❤. I really enjoyed this, 41 now and been a fan from the start.

My brother used to live a few miles from Porthcawl and my memories are that Porthcawl was a typical Britsh seaside resort that had seen better days. I was quite surprised to see it's going to be getting a Metro Link as that to me implies a tram system such as we have seen introduced in some of our cities in recent years. I wondered where it would link to? Bridgend?, Port Talbot, Cardiff? Are there many people needing to make that kind of journey from Porthcawl? However, what exactly is this building in the video to be used for? I don't see any sign of tram lines, so is it nothing more than a glorified bus shelter? I don't see this as a likely driver of prosperity in the region.

What we will need then is busses. There is not even a direct link from Porthcawl to Port Talbot. There used to be a bus that was very well used but they took it off. Outlaying areas of Porthcawl have 4 busses in the morning only. There are lots of older people to whom a walk of a mile is a long way

I do agree that we need to greatly reduce the number of cars on todays gridlocked roads but forcing everyone on to public transport is not the answer why not make cars smaller and less powerful also make the driving test much harder to pass with periodic training because cars today are huge and can reach speeds of 140mph but the standard of driving is falling

After watching this and reading the novels How green was my valley and Green green my valley now I joined Plaid Cymru and became involved in Welsh politics for many years.

Oh that is really sad to see on 22 secs, The fair that I remembered is no longer in this shot. The roller coaster is gone, the dodge em's have gone, the Water slide/chute is gone, most of the arcades on the left have gone, the pony horses have gone, even the mid center chip shop has gone? I'm gutted that Porthcawl fair is closing down. I have so many happy memories there. I feel sorry for the locals as well as the local shops who this will affect in so many ways. I understand that there is a shortage of housing in the area but the average person would probably not be able to purchase a house so close to a beach. So this will actually defeat the objective of cheap, affordable housing.

May be just coincidence but the formation of Griffin Park coincides with the conveyance of 256 acres by King George V to PUDC in 1930, needs researching to see if the King influenced the park.
