Mishkan Chicago
United States
Приєднався 11 гру 2011
Mishkan is a spiritual community in Chicago reclaiming Judaism's dynamic essence through prayer and learning experiences rooted in music and intellectual exploration. We really believe that Judaism done right is a vehicle for bringing more light, more goodness, more justice, and more joy into the world, and that inspired prayer and inspired living reinforce on another.
The ancient Mishkan in the desert brought together the Israelites from across the spectrum of the community, and so do we: young, young-at-heart, total novices alongside people with different skills and abilities, LGBTQ Jews, Jews in interfaith relationships and from all denominational backgrounds. We believe everyone's birthright is to connect in this way. The only thing required is your heart be fully in it.

Labor Rights, Labor Rights You Shall Pursue?
At our September 7th Saturday morning service, we were honored to hear from Mishkanites Frank and Margarita Klein, some of the foremost champions of labor rights in Chicago. They spoke to our tradition’s evolving concept of justice and equality, from the Torah to the Talmud to mystical texts and the modern day.

City of Refuge: Balancing Justice and Compassion
Переглядів 56Місяць тому
At our August 3rd Saturday morning service, Rabbi Steven delivered a drash about the biblical concept of the city of refuge, places where those accused of manslaughter could seek asylum. In a modern context, how do we balance justice and compassion? How can we employ both the righteous anger of protest and the need for strategic compromise? You can listen to this sermon now on Contact Chai Podc...

It is May 20, 2024, and a Monday morning starts my week. I have been seeking a new ritual or blessing or way to hold the sacred, the divine, alongside the human experience of fear, loss and vulnerability simultaneously. I've held a lot of space for others and needed something real and new for me, I didn't even know what it was, but it was this. This opened, inspired, and fortified me to keep bringing the light of oneness when I go out into the world. This last hour of ceremony, song, truth, and feeling has been a blessing, healing, and opening up for me. Grief and Joy and Letting go, Prayers and Blessings all exactly what I needed in order to go on. Thank you. You are Dissolving time, distance, and separateness in a world that is mired in so much of the illusion and the lie that we are not what we truly are. I know I am not alone, you are not alone, we are not alone, and we will keep going on together, bringing all of it, the truth of oneness, into the ever-present NOW. Deep gratitude to you and Blessings be yours.
❤
These people give me hope. They make me believe we can actually have peace one day. Both sides should really add the history of each other to the school teaching materials, not just from the Nakba, but from 1882 at least, so both sides, and not just those that research this conflict more in-depth will understand each other better.
Just to add, it's not just the Jews from Europe. The Jews in the Middle East in Arab countries, suffered a lot as well. 800k Jews were forced to leave their homes as well. As said, the history of both sides, from all perspectives, should be to be added to the teaching materials.
29:20 is when Lecha Dodi starts for my future reference ❤
Mmmm but why the swear word? I really think your old enough to give a better example. I'm old enough to say that.
Great tips!
Very difficult to hear with both computer volume and Shabbat service volume up as high as possible. Beautiful service.
We missed you so much, Lizzi! Glad to hear the sabbatical was restful.
it's great to have you back r'lizzi 💙🤍💙
Danke
I still don’t understand the purpose. Seems very first world problem. Problem, if you even want to call it that. Very silly. Maybe put all this energy where it matters, for people that actually need it. I cant believe these fake non-essential jobs are out there.
your reaction is both joyful & priceless!!
Hello Rabbi ❤
Interesting and well explained, thank you.
Whether you are tired or not is irrelevant. Antisemitism is real, thriving and threatening.
The dark light of israel! Showing the world without the shadow of a doubt what and who NOT to be like, act like! Contemptuous!
But that's an oversimplification of reality. I am one of these people who wants evidence but that doesn't mean I accuse anyone of lies. I merely want the evidence because our ability to render an accurate, and nuanced moral judgment depends upon it. Furthermore, your using the hateful chants made by the few to dismiss the legitimate grievances of millions of Palestinians who are enduring the most barbaric and brutal treatment by the Israelis who control every aspect of their life and how much the Palestinians can collectively get in terms of food, freedom, and hopes. The fact that you ignore the degrading treatment that the Palestinian people endure and want to focus on hate of the Jews as this independent phenomenon that is the only explanation to the violence that happened on October 7. Even if they weren't Jews, even if the state of Israel was a state for the Hindus and afflicted the same reality on the Palestinian, the reaction would've been the same. If you keep asserting antisemitism as the explanatory paradigm, then you will NEVER fix it.
Beautifully sung with Vibrant music
Thank you so very much!
