This is one of the most beautiful trombone concertos l have heard yet. My hat is absolutely off to Ms. Wagner for composing such a wonderful piece. I'm also sorry to say that l now have a very hard time enjoying an Alessi performance since l became aware that he refused to support Kara Kizer when she was raped by a fellow NYP musician, and even withdrew his support from Amanda Stewart for supporting Kara. Amanda had previously been his number one student at Julliard and was on track for tenure in the NYP bone section until she dared to stand up for a fellow female brass player who had been literally raped. So yeah, l really despise Joe right now, but l love this piece.

I love this piece (and this recording) so much. It’s no surprise Caroline is a very competent string player herself… the way she uses color in this work is just so beautiful, intuitive, and precise. In fact, I learn more about string writing by studying her scores than I do from the likes of Lachenmann and Ferneyhough.

OK, so I've had a CD on my shelf for about 20 years called "Piedmont Avenue" by John R. Burr. Only today do I happen to find out that he played piano on The Sims as well! If you like this I recommend it, it even sounds like the same piano he's playing!

I sang in the chorus for this work in 1988, with the Cape Town Symphony Choir. It remains in my mind, particular the Shema Ysrael. Wonderful to hear it again after all these years
