This is an ongoing series, in which J. Alan Constant and Paul Rowland chat with various artists (mostly abstract) about their work and their creative process. In this episode, they talk to Andrea Burgay, an artist based in New York, who works with collage processes. She is doing interesting work deconstructing found books and reconstructing them into works of art. She is also the creator of Cut Me Up magazine, a periodical about and for collage artists (and anyone interested in the art of collage).

A great conversation. Thanks for unblocking my art block.
Loved this work & enjoyed discovering more about the work via the great questions …..
Loved this interview… I learnt a lot about an artist I have never come across …thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your comment.
beautiful
Inspiring artist and clever questions that brought out a lot of reflection from her ... and for myself.
I identify with the steps of your journey. You are a kindred spirit and I am so glad to have found you. I feel more OK now, in my constant search practise & journey.
Love her artworks! ❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch. I find it difficult to find the right words but I definitely tried my best! Clare
I can really relate to your creative process, you did well putting it all into words. ❤
Wonderful work! Do you have an Instagram link ? I'd love to see more of your work.
What a fantastic process. Thank you so much for sharing it. What is the title of the book please?
Hi Mitzie, thank you for your comment. I hosted the talk, but I am not sure which book you are referring to. I doubt if Marjorie checks this page, so it would be best if you contact her directly to find the title of the book.
Fantastic video! It's so nice to put a face to the name and work of an artist I truly admire and who is a major inspiration for my own art practice. Rita's work is like a gentle whisper in a chaotic world, but its gentleness holds immense power. You just have to pause and observe it from the depths of your own essence. Thank You for the video 🙏🏼
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments - much appreciated.
So inspirational. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for sharing your comment with us.
I have been a strong admirer of Rita Bernstein for some years now, and she has become a powerful mentor in my own artist journey. Truly an amazing person and artist - a quietly reassuring voice (literally and artistically) in a loud world. This is a wonderful video.
Thank you, Simon. I’ve learned at least as much from you, a true kindred artistic spirit.
So good to put a face to the name, Rita! A fellow lawyer-photographer-artist 👍🏻 Your self-awareness is astonishing and inspiring. Love your journey and work. Great watch
Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed the talk.
this is fascinating! kudos!
Thanks so much for your comment.
Hey Steve! Glad you’re doing well and love your art. Shimon
So pleased I stumbled onto your YT channel and introduced me to Michael Shemchuk's work. It is a knockout! Look forward to seeing more on your site. Thank you.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it. We are doing another conversation this SAturday, and it will be posted in another week or so. Thanks for subscribing!
All painting is .
great conversation. Mr. Shemchuk doesn't overuse his words and never says something decorative. He can either say something or not say anything. a lot more of that kind of talk is needed in art these days.
I'd never heard of this gentleman before. As an arist, his work very much so, resonates with me..and my visual language. Thank you for introducing him to me. As well I have become very captivated with Michael Shemchuk! If I wasnt so darn poor financially, after a famous musician ripped me off of all my lifework..I would be pounding on Shems door, to take every workshop available! I too am definitely a multi-media artist! Please accept my gratitude, for exposing such wonderful creatives fo me!
Thank you for the comment - much appreciated..
Love this guy so much. ❤ So good to hear someone talk about their art and be so real and down to earth. Been contemplating an artist statement with dread, I might add, but now I'm feeling it can just be real and not all the fru fru added. But enough about my thi king... I love the work of Michael Shemchuk,, and I could gaze at it all day. The surfaces look luscious even on my phone. Amazing work, just stunning.❤ I would love to see it in person someday.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It was a pleasure talking with Shem, and I am glad that you got so much out of it,
He is a good interviewer.
Excellent, honest, and a perfect way to begin my day. Using every material and tool to make art is inspiring, so good to get one's hands dirty in the studio. Great sharing. Thank you.

Wow so interesting!!! Fab questions, allowed the artist to really explain his process, all the stuff we wanna know!! thanks so much! Subbed!
Thank you for all of your comments!
it’s always interesting to hear the process of an artist when they create. i love what you’re doing here! looking forward to seeing more 💗 also want to say how much i appreciate this artist’s work. he states that he doesn’t try to assign feelings to his pieces but there’s substantial energy that his art emits. it’s a natural imprinting, it seems. i felt a sense of overwhelm (in the best way) when he started talking about his experience with encountering a wall. there’s something so remarkably beautiful about seeing what no one else can and bringing it to life.
Thanks so mu h for your response to the video.
The YT algorithm sent me here and I'm happy to have watched!
