      You want to cook it until all the vegetables are softened. This process will typically be between 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally to keep it from sticking. Thank you for watching. www.savorythoughts.com/veal-stew-recipe/

    Hello, I'm new to Ghanian culinary. I just want to know what is the different between this and shito? I saw that you also add shrimp powder to the stew which makes me think this is getting very similar to shito

    • @SavoryThoughts
      @SavoryThoughts 3 місяці тому

      hello and first of all, thank you for watching. Welcome to our tribe! This is very much different than shito. Shito is a condiment that's used in many ways. This Ghanaian Tomato Stew is exactly that, a stew. It great over a bed of rice, it's great when creating a thick "sauce" to pair with meat or fish of choice, and it's amazing with boiled plantains or yams to name a few. The shrimp is added as an enhancer but it is completely optional. Please feel free to omit it. The difference will not be greatly noticeable. Thanks again for watching, hope you watch more of our videos!

    Does anyone know what brand the shrimp powder is?

    • @SavoryThoughts
      @SavoryThoughts 3 місяці тому

      Please feel free any brand you'd like. Also, you may create your own shrimp powder by purchasing dry shrimp and blending it. You may also season the shrimp powder lightly with salt, old bay seasoning, etc. I hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.

    Although the rice and Djon look good BUT, come on, to be honest, the green peas thrown in don't look right. I'd eat the rice like that without the peas. Thanks for posting.

    • @SavoryThoughts
      @SavoryThoughts 8 місяців тому

      Mu hubby doens't like his peas mushy. Plus he also likes the vibrant green color of the peas ratgher than the dull color if its overcooked. So yes, you can bypass the green peas.

    Do you always add the spices and salt near the end of cooking the stew? The last 10 mins or so, or can you add it at any point?

    • @SavoryThoughts
      @SavoryThoughts 8 місяців тому

      As you are cooking you will taste to see if it meets your flavor. So there are adjustments, but you don't need to wait until the end if you are satisfy with the flavor.

    I tryed to making the one pound version of this recipe but I didn't do something right couldn't get the potatoes to cook all the way still hard in the middle and string beans did not soften even after cooking at 400% for an hour and 30 minutes don't know what I did wrong

    • @SavoryThoughts
      @SavoryThoughts 8 місяців тому

      First, don't overcrowd your pan. Typically the type of potatoes you use and how you cut it can impact your cooking time. Another words, cut them into bitable size. If you use Idaho potatoes, they can take a little longer to cook so you might want to parboiled these potatoes first.

    Yesterday I cooked Okra and Pounded Yam. I wanted to put vegetables leaves in the okra like I usually see the Nigerians and Ghanaians doing but I didn't know what type of vegetables to use. I came across watercress in the grocery store and decided to try it in my okra soup, the result was out of this world. I cut the watercress into smaller slaces and added it to the soup and let it cook for 5 minutes. My neighbor was like wow this food taste so good.
