Your Eva Cardigan is so cute! I’ve also had the same issue with petite knit patterns and found that they’re too big and the yoke is too deep…I’ve found that the junior patterns are sometimes better for sizing if they’re offered for whichever pattern you’re doing 😅 can’t wait to see what you finish and do next 😊
Ya I usually do really enjoy the oversized look but sometimes it just ends up too oversized to be practical and that’s where I draw the line 😅. Thanks for watching!
The only thing I would suggest is to make sure your carried yarn is not pulled too tightly. Check on it as you move forward and you will be fine!
Thanks for the tip! I’ve been trying to not knit too tightly for the colourwork part of the yoke!
You’re going to do great at colorwork! I do know lots of knitters go up a needle size for their colorwork but I will say that I personally have too large of a row gauge when I do that. I now stick to the right needle size and just make sure I spread the stitches out on my right needle regularly, especially when changing colors, to make sure my floats are long enough. You’ll be great!
I found myself doing that too when I was knitting. A little hard when my needle became too short after the increases so the stitches started to look all bunched out so I had to constantly spread them out which was a little tedious. I love watching the motif unfold as I knit it though!!! So nice
Just two days ago I've met with another knitter and I wanted to say the knit purl girl and got heavily stuck like never before 😄 My tounge refused to say! I guess its because girl and purl require fast same twist, and thats weird for the brain :) Your colorwork plan is wonderful, I will be watching progess. I love minimalistic colorwork yokes. I am also about to knit my first colorwork ever, and I chose blossom vest by soumine kim, its a steeked vest and I am so afraid!
Oooo steeking sounds so scary!!! I hope it goes well and no stitches become unravelled. Wishing you luck! But that seems a lot more manageable compared to knitting colorwork flat so I see why you chose to do that!
@ thank you! Luckily the designer provides the video support so I am trusting her!
Hi! I am so glad I found your podcast! I like your aesthetics a lot! You mentioned in a few videos that you have been yarn shopping in Korea, I was wondering if you had any recommendations on where to go in Seoul? I might be going in a few months. Your blue wave cardigan is looking really good. I am a newbie knitter, so the cables look really impressive!
I only went to somsomknit. That’s the only store I’ve been to for yarn shopping. I really enjoyed their selection. If I had more time in Korea I’d definitely check out other stores like Banul story!
The blue wave… will it shorten a bit when you block the cables? If so, add a bit more length. I never know so I mid project block.
I likely will add more length! If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d mid project block too!!!
For the Blue Wave Cardigan - could you try a mid-project block? I feel like it could grow a lot. It would be good to check before you add more length so you don't have to rip back later! And also check if the sleeves get a bit roomier as well 😇
I likely will add more length since I wouldn’t mind a longer cardigan. Not a big deal, as long as not too too cropped!
Your Blue Wave Cardigan is looking great! 🧶
Thank you!!
You got this girl! I felt intimidated by my first colourwork project, but once you get going you realize it's not that scary. Two things that helped me: 1- I knit English style and knit two-handed colourwork, so the main colour is in my right hand and the contrast colour is in my left, and I knit that contrast colour continental style. I find this way really effective for yarn management. 2- Every handful of stitches I knit, I stretch them out a bit on the right hand needle, to make sure they're not too tight and therefore it prevent puckering between the colours. I think your Nova sweater is going to turn out great!! :)
This is great advice and I ditto it
Thanks for the tips! So far I’m enjoying the color work. I started it right after I filmed that podcast!! Super excited to try it on once I’m down the yoke and split for sleeves. Right now it’s looking a little bunched up on my needles but I think it’s still ok and hopefully my floats at the back aren’t too tight! The red yarn makes me feel so festiveeeee
Love the sweater!
Thank you! Can’t wait to finish it!
I really like your Eva cardigan. I recently finished the step by step cardigan which has a very similar look. It is fairly cropped and I thought that I wanted a short cardigan. Fits under short jackets. But I realized that longer lengths really are better on me and I should stop trying to follow fashion and make these shorter shapes
Definitely should make what’s comfortable for yourself! I always get to impatient and shorten the body but I also don’t mind too much as long as it’s not overly cropped and showing skin
Hi there, when you mention the jacket having less positive ease than what was written in the pattern, could you pls advise if you achieved the gauge or did you deliberately choose a smaller size to get less ease?
I deliberately chose the smallest size due to not buying enough yarn and my intention was not to wear it as a jacket but more so a cardigan so I didn’t need that much positive ease. My gauge was a little off after measuring the final garment but I also didn’t do a gauge swatch and just hoped for the best. Ultimately I’m happy with the the finished garment!
You are doing a great job on this podcast. I’m sure it will grow very soon!
Thanks for the support! Glad you’re enjoying my videos
I just found your channel a few days ago and love your podcast 😊 As a beginner (I've been knitting for a year now) I can totally relate to stitcking with PetiteKnit and other popular designers. I feel like I'm on autopilot with their patterns, I know what to expect and I'm relatively certain that I'll like the end result lol. I'm furiously knitting the Lulu Slipover now, hoping to have enough time to get to a proper holiday sweater. I decided on the Holly Sweater by KFO a while ago, I usually don't like the look of a circular yoke myself, but I just couldn't help myself with this one 🙈 I also keep telling myself that next year I'll knit something more versatile 😅
The holly sweater is so pretty!!! I hope it turns out well. It would be perfect the holidays. Sometimes I knit for the finished object and other times I knit for the process, so sometimes they’re not as versatile too!
I won‘t spend any time writing up tubular cast on or bind off. Just link a good video.
All of the patterns are great!! Can’t wait to see which one you choose!
Eek still deciding !!!! I’m so torn
I just added these patterns to my favourites. Have you consider PetiteKnit's Ankers Sweater?
I haven’t but that’s a nice sweater! If u end up knitting it I hope it turns out well!
I really like your inspo, if you’re open to color work, I’d highly recommend Augustins sweaters by Anne Sophie Velling because her charts are very clear, she also has other interesting sweaters that have cool constructions that would be perfect for the holidays
Omg this is soooo cute. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/northern-augustins-no-6 that seems a little hard for a first colorwork project though :(
I’m working on the nova sweater at the minute, on the knitting chart, are the stitches meant to match up with it? For example, on row 2 i did knit knit YO but when I got to the BOR marker, I only had 2 stitches left and couldn’t complete the last YO. Is this normal, I’m new to knitting charts and colour work 😅
Sorry can’t help! I haven’t casted on yet but if I do I’ll definitely film a knitting podcast talking about it! Usually charts are pretty straight forward to follow but I haven’t done colorwork before and only followed charts for lace work and cables! Hopefully your project works out
Nova sweater is cute. Go for it, you can knit any sweater as long as you know what a knit or purl stitch is. There is always tutorials on U tube. Don’t worry 😉 pick one and go Girl you get this!
Thanks for the motivational words!!! I’m more so worried I wouldn’t be able to find a good pairing yarn for the colorwork or I don’t have enough time to finish it before the holidays :(
The nova sweater looks like the colourwork is easy. Not too long floats. I suggest you invest in a 16” neckline cable especially if you intend on continuing knitting. Circular construction is easy. If you can do a raglan, you already have the skills. The increases are just distributed differently. If you make a conscious effort to not pull the colourwork tighter as you go, you’ll find it to be not too hard.
Yes I agree. The tensioning is key! I’m an English style knitting so not sure if the switching between the 2 colour strands will be annoying but I’ll never know unless I try! This would definitely be one of my first color work projects to try though. Been eyeing this pattern for so long…
Love the v neck!
Thanks so much!!
Your Stockholm Slipover V Neck looks amazing! 👏🏾🧶
Thank you!!!
Just discovered your podcast and I love your approach! I also tend to limit my number of WIPS and buy patterns and make them over and over for myself and others. Yay for practical knitting :) Looking forward to seeing your future projects.
Thanks for the support! Hopefully I can find a good holiday sweater to cast on. That’s next on my list of things to do!
Great idea on reducing the slipover bottom armhole stitches! Also wanted to share a little tip: when you mentioned ripping back your grey slipover's neckline you said the curly yarn is unusable. I recently tried soaking my previously knit yarn and then caked it up and I found that this reduced the curliness by 80-90% and the yarn was much easier to work with, so passing it along in case it helps =)
It’s more so it gets too fuzzy from all the pulling of the yarn through each stitch to undo the tubular bind off. Since I had extra I just used a new piece of yarn to bind off to keep it clean. I for sure always use yarn when I just frog or rip back normally but for the bind off, i don’t. Thanks for the tip though!!
do you know if fishermans wool is scratchy? do you wear your cardigan against your skin?
Definitely scratchy. And I do not wear my cardigan against skin. Always a T-shirt underneath and the sleeves of the cardigan aren’t too tight so the sleeve part doesn’t really have contact with my skin. However I don’t mind the scratchiness since I prefer longer lasting rustic yarns !
I ❤ how you redesigned the vest- very nice.
Thanks so much! Was fun to do this pattern and see the final result. Wish I knit it just a tad bit longer but ran out of yarn haha
I'm so glad your podcast came up on my suggestions - I really enjoy your style.
Thanks so much! Happy to have you join our little knitting community! Stay tuned for future podcast episodes!
This was wonderful and you have totally inspired me to try a petite knits pattern! I’ve somehow not done so so far! Keep the pods coming, they’re great!
Thanks for watching! I do love her writing style and find it’s not overly wordy but still is thorough enough compared to other patterns that I’ve tried !
First time viewer and I enjoyed this so much! Beautiful knitting and I appreciate how intentional you are, since that is not something I’m very skilled at being. Also, I wanted to say that the heel turn and gusset of a sock is a magical experience and I totally understand that hesitation to learn something new, but you will love it as you go through it! Also pretty sure you know all the techniques to do with it. It will just be following the pattern and watching everything develop! Looking forward to catching up on your other two videos! Also, I was excited to hear that you’re in Toronto as I’m in Burlington so we’re neighbours!🎉🎉
So nice to hear you’re close by!!! I’m unfortunately still on the stockinetye portion of the sock but maybe at some point this year I’ll be at the heel! It’s the best little commuter project when I get a seat on the subway but otherwise I never find time to work on this sock !!
I always go up two needle sizes for BO. Per Andrea Mowry.
I learned this the hard way unfortunately. For sure will do this next time !!
Loving your clarity and the way you speak about your projects! Your neutrals are beautiful as well! Eva cardigan holds the shape so well in this yarn, and the color is nice. The blue wave cardigan is on my list! But I want to make it a sweater, it will be perfect for spring. I don’t speak Korean so it will be a challenge for me with a google translate 😅 Looking forward to your new episode!
I also used google translate for blue wave cardigan and then just followed the chart. However I did find the one size only to have a bit too little positive ease than I would have preferred but that’s ok! It’s a free pattern after all
Love the color of your Stockholm Slipover V-Neck. 🩶🧶
Thank you !!! It’s a nice neutral colour and goes with everything!
Great job on your Esther Jacket and slipovers! 👏🏾🧶
Can never have too many cardigans and slip overs !!
I’m so glad I found your podcast! I love what you’re making! ❤
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support
So happy UA-cam showed me one of you're videos 😊 happy to be a subscriber now!!
Thanks so much for supporting my channel!
I enjoyed learning about your projects. Your slipover and cardigan look great. They are both in my queue with yarn in stash, so your discussion was very helpful. I am curious if you have knit the April Cardigan too. I love the Eva finishes but the very deep yoke is a bit worrisome for wearability with a jacket. Would appreciate your thoughts on the comparisons if you have them. Maybe a mash up of the 2 patterns is in my future.
Unfortunately I haven’t knit the April cardigan. But yes for sure my eva cardigan has such a deep yoke, if I were to make it again I’d also try to reduce some of the increases so that the yoke isn’t so big. I think I’ll have to wear this cardigan with a looser fitting jacket unfortunately. Otherwise I think there’s too much fabric near the underarm making it uncomfortable! My advice is to probably just constantly try it on when you’re knitting the yoke so you know the depth before splitting for sleeves :)
I have SO much patons classic!! Truly such a staple yarn!!!
They could use more colour options for this yarn but other than the lack of colour, this is a great yarn!!!
I only subscribed b/c you’re so pretty.
Thank you!
Excellent video! I'm so happy that I found your channel. Your projects look amazing! 🧶
Glad you’re enjoying my content! Hope you are finding these podcasts helpful!
Ooh the shade of Patons wool worsted you're using for the Just Sweater is so pretty! It's such a good workhorse yarn 👍
Ya I love this yarn! So affordable and really enjoying knitting with it. Doesn’t hurt my hands and easy to tension!
I have a bunch of natural mix and red in the patons… it’s just such good value in Canada. I am stumped looking for a vneck, non oversized, worsted pattern… for the bright red. Do you think a doubled vneck collar in the patons would be too poofy?
I think if you go down some needle sizes for the neckline it should be ok! I plan on doing a folded down collar with mine. If I have any issues with poofyness I’ll definitely talk about it in my next podcast !
F😢😮
Nice cardigan!
Thank you! 😊
Lovely projects. Do you knit the normal way or the continental way? I get too confused with continental knitting.
I knit English style. Continental definitely looks faster but also feels confusing to me too!
Love these!
Thank you!
So glad I found you channel! make more content!
Thanks so much :) aiming to be uploading a podcast every 2 weeks!
Beautiful work, well done 👏
Thanks so much! Can’t wait to film the next podcast 😁
Thank you. I was searching an alternative vest, but keeping it simple. I'll copy your idea 😊
Ya I’m so glad I found this pattern. I love how versatile slipcovers can be! Keeps me just warm enough especially in the office!
