Prelude in 13/10 tuning
Переглядів 167Місяць тому
An 8-note scale generated as a sequence of the 13/10 tridecimal semisixth, an odd-sounding interval between a major third and a perfect fourth. The 8-note scale approximates 8edo and could potentially be used in a circular way. In addition to the pure 13/10, there are good representations of the 7/5 tritone and 7/4 seventh and a pretty close 6/5 minor third.

Monolith
Переглядів 2 тис.2 місяці тому
Performed by the Mivos Quartet at Brigham Young University February 8, 2024. The music for Monolith consists of a single sonic harmonic object, which turns around and around, shifts position, casts off light with a variety of colors and characteristics. The dotted rhythms, subtle at first, eventually pervade the entire texture, until rhythmic and melodic fragments piece themselves together into...

Two Chord Revery

Notated in harmonics notation, played on Pianoteq. Both of the chords are isochords, meaning the chords are built on successive harmonics spaced equally far apart on the harmonic series.

super cool
Your work never disappoints. And kudos to Steve for a lovely tune.
So many unexpected twists! Love it.
Bravo to both the composer and pianist! Wow!
This is awesome. Definitely transported me to a different time and place. Loved it.
super awesome keep uploading please!!!
The best response I have yet heard to any of the new hymns!
Sounds awesome still, but simply cannot touch the original 23 edo version
Yeah it's certainly a different piece!
Holy crap how did you engrave this?!
Lilypond deep deep hack. Amazing what it can do!
Astonishing performance!!
This is such a beautiful performance. And what a gorgeous, gorgeous piece.
this is in the category 'listen to this when descending into mania' with bryan deisters bohlen-pierce waltz, i love this
Magic.
Lovely stuff, Neil. Really enjoying these Ragatelles & hope you'll be posting some more!
A perfect opening chapter for the anthology to follow.
Lovely🎉
Congratullations! ❤
Wow. Truly superb-and, oddly, one of your more surrealist pieces, to my ears.
I enjoyed this! Lots of color and surprises-well done!
neat! sounds a bit like one of Messiaen's organ improvisations, but with cooler tuning.
That's some powerful moonshine, son.
quite delicious.....
Love this a lot
wow thats like the coolest rag I've ever heard. Totally authentic to the style, beautiful and with cool postmodern deconstruction sections too lol. more please!
great stuff, this must have been madly hard to play!!!
👏🏻 Wow, the Mivos Quartet did excellently! The tuning for this seems difficult. I love the pause at 6:44
Credit to the quartet for adding that particular pause.
Speaking as a non musical major, I don't know what is being done, but I found it quite a lovely trip through beautiful sounds. Very enjoyable!
Nice album Neil! Listening all the way through this.
wow.
wow! freakin' fantastic!
Ravishing!
This is so cool and beautiful!! 😍
An elegant use of the harmonics on the piano. Excellent all around.
Wow Neil this is great! Is the tuning different for each octave?
Thanks Stephen! Yes different tuning for each octave.
Really wonderful, great job.
This is some of the best xenharmonic music I've heard! Wonderful job blending the strange tuning with familiar western idioms. A great extension of 7edo is 21edo- it gives you 400 cent major thirds and nearly perfect harmonic sevenths.
Fake major thirds
Interesting!. Thanks for uploading. No offense, but my ears don't like it.😂
Has a combination Medieval and modern feel to it. I think it would be worth looking into a well-tempered derivative of 7EDO for the next version of this. I am thinking of what the music of the nation of Georgia uses (Kartvellian scale) -- according to Xehnarmonic Wiki, this consists of alternating 4ED3/2 (4EDF) and 3ED4/3.. They link to a short video ua-cam.com/video/FVxD6NB8-CI/v-deo.html (Georgian chant lesson) which I have watched and a LONG video ua-cam.com/video/TFncneafovI/v-deo.html (conference presentation on the Georgian sound scale) which I have not yet watched (but I put it in my Watch Later list).
7edo on top
Great piece, I love microtonal music
I don't know what about this sends my fight or flight reflex into action, but man. This really unsettles me. Haunting. Great work
yeah this is a little too prickly for me at the moment, to listen to. it could augment a scene in a movie, show, or game really effectively.
Very interesting notation! I might also steal it haha
Sounds great too btw
Appreciate seeing this notation, might use it myself! It is good for otonal chords, less useful for utonal chords
wow!
this is eerily comforting. like something you’d hear during the end times. very interesting!
Interesting
What's the intrument used, and how was it played?
Played on a cheapo midi keyboard through Pianoteq, which I tuned with a scala file.
very interesting tuning! quite pretty actually.
equal temperament always sounds magical!
Beautiful innovation on ragtime, never heard such harmonies before
