Hi Guys, a lot of great work there. Glad I didn't take my tank out, mine was more than ok, as car had been dry stored all it's life. You are certainly not sparing the new parts being put on the car, which is great to see. The key part for the aerial, is this not a locking key when it is in the down position? I vaguely recall these from the 1980's if it is non electric. Stopped kids pulling them up and breaking them off...yes this was a thing kids did back in the day. Hey guys thanks for the shout out, so happy you got it to go. As for the black wires looks as if that would be non OEM, anything to do with ignition (from the main original loom) should be white with one coloured line such as red or grey or yellow. You should see this from the schematic. As you had the black wire on the coil this was perhaps grounding out the coil permanently inhibiting the spark. You got there in the end. I'm not surprised you got a shock off the lead whilst holding it I have had the same too! How were the rubber mounts for the rear springs? I'd renew those if the spring ends have dug into the rubbers, I did file my spring ends smooth as the cuts were not finished smooth from OEM and caused the rubber to split over time, probably $25 for a whole set of new. The top of the struts can be accessed via two turret mounts underneath the rear parcel shelf or where the roof sits when down. The nuts can be quite difficult to get off, I had to heat mine up, being careful not to set fire to the carpet. Great to see the happiness of getting the spark back and engine running, loved it! Note: Before removing the wiring, 3 connections on the fuel sender on tank, make a note of which wire goes were and the orientation as it is currently seen before removal, if not done already.

If your battery is low, your electronic ignition will not fire as it needs a FULL 12.5 . When your starter spins it will drop the volts down and you will have no spark. If you have an old school booster battery charger put it on boost and see if it starts.

Ok, initially you did have a spark, if you have a spark & fuel you are going to get an explosion. If you have no spark now you need to sort that. Ensure you have a spark coming off the coil lead, before it goes to the dist. cap. If you get a spark then connect to dist cap and verify a spark from any of the 1-4 leads, if no spark, then you need to check your opto setting for the electronic ignition for when it is open & closed. The feedback signal from the opto is going back to the electronics unit which in turns generates a larger voltage pulse to send through the coil etc, etc. When the opto is made, the output voltage should be reduced (2.7V) and when not made voltage output should be 7-8V. Seeing as you have electronic ignition the coil should be a 12V 3 Ohm coil, initially from factory the coils were a 6V coil 1.5 Ohms and a ballast resistor of 1.5 Ohms (know as a "Eureka wire) is wired in the loom. With any electronic ignition system this eureka wire needs to be permanently shorted out as you should have the 3 Ohms on your 12V coil. This is where I would start. Btw the regulator on the dash is for the fuel delay signal, the dials on the dash will not stop the ignition from working, ok if you have an oil pressure switch this might inhibit the ignition system and/or fuel pump, but seeing as you are adding fuel in the fuel is not the issue. Lastly do you need to add a bit of choke on for cold starting. Best of luck! Chris.

This is taking me back, I bought a rust free original paint 1980 for my son and I to play with. We quickly fell out of love with original engine and swapped it out to Buick 3.8 putting out about 220hp. I desided this was too much for a 16 year old so we found another 77 coupe for him to drive with the original drivetrain. ( it now has a twin turbo LS ) Enjoy the experience!

Nice few bits of work there. The water pump, it may be necessary to re-face the under side of the water pump impeller to get the new seal to seal and sit properly against it. Other wise you may see some water come out of the block. You only need to take a few thou off to make it look new and will definitely seal. Be a shame not to and then have to remove all the induction once more! Hope this helps.

This is what you get with the old cars, looks as if there was a remnant of a mouse nest in the passenger footwell. Buy yourself some offset Torx set or mini ratchet bits to get the seat bolts out/in. If they have never been out a soak in easy out or WD40 would help, but I guess you do know that. Look forward to the unboxing, please don't give up just yet!

Nice going for first attempt. I haven't worked on Strombergs for decades, always did prefer the SU carburettors they were diaphragm free and easier to dismantle and clean. Did you check the height of each jet just in the carb and insert new needles?

Hi There, The car looks to be in relatively good order. What were the make of the carburettors? I wish you good luck with it, I have a 44 year old drophead (UK) and drove a lot of these in my early 20's back in the 80's. Nice to see the schematic in the handbook, we never got that here in the UK. Look forward to more work & please do share. If you need any help with info etc let me know. Cheers, Chris.

Cool lil video Nomad n Dad. Central NH is my neck of the woods and I've crossed Sandwich Notch Rd. many times by truck, or mt. bike but I've never seen as much traffic as you guys ran into. If you haven't explored NH much, I'd give a recommendation to ride the Grand Tour of the Whites. It basically starts in Lincoln, climbs the kank, then take a left onto bear notch rd. up into Bartlett, make another left onto 302 and follow it up through Crawford notch. Take a left again at 142 in Bethlehem and ride down to Franconia, get onto 116 through Kingsman Notch and finally, take a left onto 112 (lost river rd.) and drop down into Woodstock, cross the river and duck under 93 and you're back to Lincoln. It's just over 100 miles. It's a great ride, lots of twisty mt. roads of course, AMAZING views, and stops along the way. (Side note: Reklis Brewery & Pub, Main st. Bethlehem... great beer, good food, and a really fun staff)
