Interview Video from the album "Interview"
☮mágicos tempos; eu os vivi☮
Saw them live many times. Amazing band. They were terrific in Central Park NYC Wow that was some gig.
I'm 61 and I only heard Gentle Giant this year. By chance I heard "The Street, The House, The Room" with the eccentric little fiddly bits and was intrigued. So naturally I've gone through the whole catalogue. They are absolutely amazing and I play very little else.
Congrats for discovering the greatest most epic legendary unique innovative genius band ever.
Cool vibes!!! ❤
😀It’s great to see the drummer is a Oakland A’s fan🥁🥁🥁🥁
Tremenda banda 🧐
Seeing john singing is great lol
When John starts singing Derrek gets out of the way of the camera. I got such a surprise.
delicious -- how does anyone get this good -- must be something in the water in London , ....
Golders Green
My guys!!!
Was lucky enough to see them several times back in the 70's. Still listen to their cd's when I'm driving.
Their last great album, this. Nice video to the studio track, hadn't seen it before. 😊
Disagree-missing piece and civilian are damm great legendary albums.
@@1359401 IMHO they are both good, but not in the same league as the earlier records. I saw the Civilian tour (the last one) in 1980, and that material was even better live.
What's fun is it looks like Minnear is performing a real knock-out grand piano solo live in the room, even though we are hearing the record of course... Not sure about the drummer - maybe they all did it live in there after all?.. They did play it on tour back then...
Yeah, they did. It was a music video with the original album track back in 1976. This was before MTV. Many bands that were recording videos back then would make these promo videos with the band playing live and it was synced with the original track. Thus this video is lip-synched for airplay on TV music shows in the 70s. This was played on a show in the US called The Midnight Special. I got it off Giant on the Box DVD the first DVD, there are two DVD releases. Just go to the Gentle Giant website to buy.
The most complex and sophisticated Progressive Band ever. Only Yes 1971-1974 could be compared in original complex compositions. But Gentle Giant si still nowadays the most exquisite original real progressive Rock band ever. RÄ.
You can safely say that no one sounds like GG; what a great band.
Underrated only by the terminally tin-eared parvenu listener.
What's with the Oakland Athletics uniform that the drummer is wearing?!
probably the best Demis Rousos cover done by Gentle Giant, if you hear the original, its night and day.
this is the house of the prog music
Actually when this album came out in '76 I was rather disappointed a lot of it is hard to listen to very often
Excellence is excellence. This is excellence.
Mind-blowing music! Long live GG!
Bloody marvellous!👏🏻🇬🇧
1:52 when i First listened to that piano section i had goosebumps, this is maybe the best "dissonant" song ever. Only genius like these band members could create songs like this, proclamation, playing the game, advent of panurge etc... Another Song that is not much considered is "Inside Out" of their last album.
I was there,......June 1976 Cow Palace, San Francisco G.G. with Yes. Greatest concert I have ever experienced.
Me too! You handed me a joint.
No, I did not. If you hadn't taken your mescaline pill you may know who gave you the pot.
Espetacular
Great Album. I have it.
Ray couldn't get away with using that guitar strap today. : )
what do you mean
@@amateursound people would assume that he's not heterosexual. ☺️
®Rays guitar strap coincides with the rainbow on the the front of the album cover.
Interview was a bad album, times were changes and Prog was at the end.
How misguided you are and so wrong- interview album kicks ass and is legendary genius
@@1359401 he's right
@@amateursound Your both so wrong and very misguided
They would have gone down a treat at Glasgow's annual Celtic Connections festival. The Shulmans were a Gorbals family (infamous Glasgow district )and as their tribute to fellow Gorbals expat, the famous psychiatrist R.D. Laing, on their earlier 'Knots' proved, Glasgow has given the world so much more than sectarian violence.
Prog but very funky, indeed.
Ahh, pooka shell necklaces
I agree. It's spelled "puka." Puka means "hole" in Hawaiian. I know, because I lived in Honolulu in the 90s.
For No One haha this surely takes a lot of brawn to get into it .. one could lose a lot of friends just being fan
Unbelievable! 2021!
Thanks Guys for watching and listening to Gentle Giant! I am amazed at all the folks who either have been following the band or who just discovered these talented musicians and Derek Schulman as manager of his own record company DRT records. The band is amazing still if you have seen "Three Friends" with Gary Green you know. I'd just like to say thanks and GG lives on. The Steven Wilson remixes are great. I encourage you to check out more GG on youtube
The most sublimely insane and fun band in the history of forever!
I've always been a big fan of their unique multi-instrumentalist talents. I love their blend of Rock, Jazz, Baroque, Celtic and folk. Saw them live 3 times. Jeez, amazing! :) and to think that Derek went on to run Roadrunner Records and signed bands like Slipknot, Dream Theater and Type -O- Negative :)
Cannibal Corpse too. Thank You for checking this out. I am seeing a lot more people delving into music that was made in the 70's. Gentle Giant was an amazing band.
These guys are so far ahead of the musical curve! Five seriously musical geniuses that blend so well together and enjoying the experience. Live they were always jumping up and down on stage having a ball! Thank God for Gentle Giant. They made my college years ecstatic.
Great company to the pandemic moment
The audio quality of this video is high. TY 4 uploading it.
Some here have commented that Gentle Giant were way ahead of their time and on an entirely different level, which are very true...but they carved out and occupied their own patch, and they preferred it that way. As Derek Shulman said, "we create our music at the risk of becoming very unpopular"...most people viewed them as oddities, unfathomable intellectuals, or just plain weird; they just didn't get it. But those of us who did get it loved it and still love it all these years later! They were incredible and one of a kind!
Their riffs are full of space, which was always remarkable. For a progressive rock band playing off-kilter grooves over polyrhythmic-odd-time-signatures, that angular space funked things up ~ 2:48 funk from all that space they put between beats. You could almost dance to it but you could always feel it. You could certainly twitch to it quite satisfactorily.
Absolutely 💯
Well said sir. 👍
Ray Shulman rocking his "Prince Valiant" look from 1940s films 😉 Btw the Rainbow Bass strap and Cover Art wasn't an LBGTQ thing !! Back in the 1960s-70s (my Era I grew up in) The Rainbow Button, Sticker or Flag was a Hippie thing for Peace, Love & Ecology !! Okay "Youts" Lol 😆
Me too, & I'm still a hippie!
@@paulbennett772 Haha there yah go !! Lol ☺ ✌

I'm sorry...I like GG with Kerry voice...in my opinion Derek was the problem....
I wasnt aware they had a problem
What problem?
Back in about 1980 I picked up a GG double compilation. At the time I remember I was trying to make sense of Yes’s Tales of Topographic Oceans but this GG was beyond me at the time.About ten years ago the penny dropped.I have all their albums now.Derek looks a bit like Paul Rodgers here
Did John Weathers played with Pete Brown..Pique Weathers à drummer was John????
Why do you ask ? Surely You know it
Turn it up ... enlighten your neighbors .. better yet , purchase for hundreds of thousands of dollars an awesome sound system for your awesome ride and tool thru town playing this for everyone .
Sons of The Power and the Glory only band that could even get close to these guys is obviously King Crimson ...... I know who I will listen to
Someone made the estute observation : This is the best band ever . Is the statement true ? Can one ever know ...
That would be me-they are/were without a doubt the greatest most legendary genius criminally underated band ever.
They are the greatests!!
