    You young lads make it honestly look so easy! LOL! Here I am looking for some nice places to kayak and maybe fish with the family, also living on the Sunshine Coast, which boasts so many beautiful waterways. We have also been a bit skeptical of using plastic lures, thinking that natural bait 'must' be better, but certainly your success shows otherwise. Your video was certainly high packed with entertainment and good value as well. Cheers to you both!

      Coochin Creek is usually our go to for kayaking, it's full of flatties, cod and the odd jack. The canals and weirs behind Golden Beach at Caloundra have some good bream and the breakwall at Mooloolaba has some good fish too.

    • @doublehookupfishing3942

      We usually target tailor on shallow minnow-style hard bodies and slugs during the winter, but you can also catch the odd dart, GT, bigeye or mackerel. There are jewies and school-sized sharks at the bottom, although you'd need bigger gear than we take to target those, at least 8ft rods and 30-40lb line. Most people use bait or soft plastics for jewies, although we met this crazy bloke who showed us photos and vids of himself catching them on ultra-deep diving hard bodies. It's a great spot, best conditions are south-westerlies with good swell.

    • @MustaFishing
      @MustaFishing 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the reply bro! Have you target jewies or gt’s there yet?

    • @doublehookupfishing3942
      @doublehookupfishing3942 4 роки тому

      We haven't specifically targeted jewies at Fingal yet, although our dad does when we can bring him along. Either his baits get picked at by bream and the like, or he brings up a wobbegong (accidentally of course). It's on the list for this winter for sure! GTs are more of a tailor bycatch, and don't tend to get around much when it's cold. You can also get them at the mouth of the Tweed off the rockwalls during the summer, but they're few and far between most of the time.

    Hey mate, how'd you rig up your livies?

    • @doublehookupfishing3942
      @doublehookupfishing3942 4 роки тому

      Herring are a bit more fragile than other livies such as mullet, so we pin them once through the back just in front of the dorsal fin, avoiding the spine. This keeps them alive longer and since a lot of fish attack livies (especially herring) head first, it gives you a better chance to hook up.

    That Trev was a fine looking fish, well done on light gear. It is hard to stay calm and collected when you are on to a good fish, but the more experience you gain the more you will be able to relax and enjoy the moment. A quick tip on fish handling...if you are going to release the fish, don't put it down on hard hot surfaces like concrete or rocks. A wet brag mat or towel are much better for the fish.

    Good work fellas. I noticed that you are using a swivel to join your line and leader. I would recommend taking the swivel out of the system and using a knot (eg double uni, albright, FG etc). By taking the swivel out you will be able to run a longer leader, and you will be able to wind it through your guides without damaging them.

    • @doublehookupfishing3942
      @doublehookupfishing3942 6 років тому

      Thanks Rocket, we're each using 20lb braid with 40lb mono leader. When we fish with 6lb we use double uni knots, especially for surface fishing, but when using heavier gear we've found tying these knots is quite tricky due to the difference in the thickness of the lines. If you've got any recommendations for leader that would be better suited for this we'd be happy to hear them! DHF

    • @RocketsFishingAdventures
      @RocketsFishingAdventures 6 років тому

      If I am using anything over 15lb leader, I will use the FG Knot. It takes a bit of practice to perfect, but is in my opinion the best way to join braid to heavy leader. I use a modified Albright on anything less than 20lb as I find the FG hard to tie in lighter line, and the Albright has served me well. There are plenty of UA-cam how-to vids, but the one I found most helpful was from the guys at Big Angry Fish - ua-cam.com/video/yk7uWUa4z6Y/v-deo.html
