The Wonderful World of Westport (1985)
they couldn't get an employee to set up an awesome train like that again, they have to figure out their pronouns first ;)
I lived in Westport and Norwalk and Weston between 80' to 88' ... Worked at Klein's from 82' to 87'. Best years of my life. Knew and interacted with many of the people who were the movers and shakers in Westport. Life was different back then, you could connect with people...now...not so much.
"Westport, Connecticut - a blacklisting town."
glad my memories are less fuzzy - technology has improved.
My home town.My brother and his family live in our grandparents house that was originally built in 1887.Great town.Great memories.
Damn! I can almost hear that squawking Macaw in the giant bird cage. Leaves me yearnin for a pup-a-go go dog...
Eric the Parrot :)
Opinionated, libtard town where everyone thinks he or she is correct. Looks like it's the same now as it was 36 yrs ago.
Hi Mark, I'm working on a documentary that takes place in Potsdam, NY and while doing some research found your old reels. Could you email me at ridge44productions@gmail.com ? I'd like to discuss possibly using some of the footage with your permission. Thanks! - Morgan
Enjoyed the video. I attended part of the county fair as a wee lad that year. :-)
Fantastic, love those expo express and minirail clips.
thank you for uploading!
I loved it back in the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's! Now it really has lost everything this video shows. It was a quaint and charming then! They have torn down, so many beautiful old homes to build terribly made McMansions. At least the 4 home my grandfather built back in the 40's and 50's are still standing.
I am going to visit which streets should I go to see the old homes? Thank you
Cool..thanks for posting this cool piece of local history. Washing this in nearby Hays in 2019
NWO yea!!!!!
Wow! Some amazing footage. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it. More to come.
Thanks for posting. These old videos are cool. I was only 7 years old at the time.

I passed by the Unisphere Friday night.
YES, 'pt1gard' and 'cpswarrior': "General" David Sarnoff was more of a businessman than an inventor {that is, he loved to find new ways to invent money, on behalf of and for RCA}. He also had the best highest-paid lawyers in the private sector, and that's why true innovators like Farnsworth, Tesla AND Marconi were "screwed" by him.
Radio Corporation of America had a major exhibit at the 1939 World's Fair- and David Sarnoff, the head of RCA, decided the Fair's opening on April 30, 1939 would be the "official" introduction of his company's TV sets, and regular broadcasts in the New York area {four hours a day, three or four days every week} on experimental station "W2XBS", which became "commercial" station WNBT in 1941, WRCA-TV in 1954, and WNBC-TV in 1960. Sarnoff always insisted RCA "invented" television first...
What is the name of the movie they made about her????? plz respond... :)
complete boondoggle. central park still is,and will always be top park in nyc. the notion of striving for utopia through technology, without humanity and eco-systems taking precedence will always be a dissaster. then again, what can you expect from robert moses, someone who wanted to build a gas gussling highway, through everyone's backyard.
one thing i can say about this little documentary is there showing the bitter and the sweet(strife, civil rights march, war.pomp glitz, etc.)
that was goooood
I was 5 yrs old when we went there. I actually remember those little moon buggies. Not much else though.
I have absolutely NO IDEA if my sis can give thhe speech like THAT!!! she has a very BAD case of stage fright!!! she might faint... ohh man i feel sorry for her maybe she's onna get a bad grade in english now........
@csillag4 a ha! you make a great point.
And the fair still has that fully-functioning UFO lander.
@csillag4 I'm one of 'em
It's not like the park isn't being utilized. It is always full of people.
Not me. I was only 6 at the time. But I did know that it was the one beer to have when you're having more than one!
Bravo, Mark! (you didn't drink any Schaefer beer up there did you?)
totally something i would do in 30 years
PRESIDENT KENNEDY WAS SUPPOSED TO MKE THAT SPEECH THAT THAT RAT LYNDON JOHNSON LATER MADE. I LIVED ON LONG ISLAND and we used to drive by their fair site in the 1970s
one word for this guy!!! TESLA!!!
what that appropiate? why do you say that?
is this a speech she made?
This was a part of a celebration for the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage in Columbus OH. There was a path full of people of history - including Uncle Sam as the tour guide.
There letting it deteroiate so they can then develop it. The fix is in, and we the public lose, like we always do. But the same crooks don't ever have to worry, they got themselves a lifetime job.
i hear there are still plans to renovate, but not yet. i visited last week, and it is still decaying, which to me, is kind of beautiful in a way.
Yay 1964! My birth year.
They tore down the 1939 Aquacade not long ago because Boro President Clair Shulman did not want it ..They should have tore her down ..old bag.
Wow... It's been like 30 years since I last saw this. Thanks for posting! I truely loved it when I was a kid.
lol
looks nice on the website for park... a group has been fighting/pleading with NYC for funds to preserve the park. In the disgusting period of the 1970's the park was a wreck, like much of the city. Liberals like Moyers can be blamed for the decay there and elsewhere in the US...Fortunately, NYC is being restored...
Not quite. I was there in January '08 and the Unisphere is really the only thing standing. The theatre and towers are in disrepair.
the park has been totally restored ....
Those were the days. Let me know how everybody is! Chris
very interesting the vintage film
