Music - Quarter Past Eleven - Victor Lundberg
Located in the heart of downtown in Monument Circle, it was originally designed to honor Indiana’s Civil War veterans. It now commemorates the valor of Hoosier veterans who served in all wars prior to WWI, including the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Frontier Wars and the Spanish-American War. One of the most popular parts of the monument is the observation deck with a 360-degree view of the city skyline from 275 feet up.
The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, designed by Bruno Schmitz of Germany in an international competition, rests at the center of the Circle. Other features include bronze statuary of three former Indiana governors and a general, a grand staircase, and two water pools. There also are striking views of the state capitol building and the city from atop a 231-foot-tall observation tower.
Monument Circle is bordered on each side by a distinct cultural district: the State Capitol building on the west, City Market on the east, North Meridian Street, home to several war memorials on the north, and Circle Centre Mall on the south.
Monument Circle events include the 500 Festival Parade that occurs before the Indianapolis 500 auto race over the Memorial Day weekend.
Monument Circle is a practical yet attractive gathering place for planned events like parades or the annual Soldiers and Sailors Monument Christmas Lighting. Tourists and locals also come to rest and sip coffee on the monument's grand staircase.

What was with the scary music?
That's how I felt sitting at the top. It was really hot up there and we had to stop often in order to let each rider off below. The carrier swings back and forth during each stoppage.

Hello Lisa. On some days you have to buy a token for a dollar in order to ride. There are occassions where you will just get the head nod and they will let you ride for free. Enjoy.

@@timothyjwalking Yeah we were just there, September 20~26. Always get a month long People Mover pass too. Beats charring a pocket full of tokens. I lived in SE Lower, Michigan for most of my life. Once I retired, I moved to Tennessee. Michigan will always be home though. I try to show people down here videos of the Ren Cen as it is so large and easy to lose your way. Without pictures or a video, you just can't explain the place. We had diner at the Highlands this time. Detroit gets a bad rap from people that have never been there. The downtown area is actually pretty nice. And is getting better with each year for the past decade or so. Thanks again for the great video!
