Just started watching this amazing show. Amazing and might be my favorite scene even if so simple and two captains talking than the suspense, tension, and action scenes. It shows two great actors simply doing work and see the true good character of both men. Crozier is obviously a very honorable man, but we see who Fitzjames really is. Honestly when I want he’s the trailer, I thought he would turn into a bad guy and turn the men against crozier, but we see him throughout the show slowly gain respect of crozier. In general, he probably always had some respect even with the tension between the two but even if he was flawed, he always had respect of his crew memebers at least. But we see the man be truly honest and it just felt like a real conversation in a show that is mostly fictional and I just love when a show can be entertaining but have legit real elements in a show. Much better than the over the top cheesy action, romance, or even these overrated prententious indie art films that try to be real but fail. Show did a good job bringing all elements you want in a show or movie. Slow burn but still had action or things every episode.

Crozier openly insulting Fitzjames at dinner in episode one is a big hint at their eventual friendship. It's a weird Irish thing. The strength of friendships (and brotherhood) can be measured by the extent and frequency of insults exchanged. "Tell us about birdshit island" is basically Francis' way of saying 'I like the cut of your jib. We should deplete the whiskey stock together'.

Reminded me of Bob Hoskins and Alec Baldwin in The Edge. It's funny how all the pompous and petty egoism is stomped out when reality tests you. Real men are forged thru actions, not titles. Francis had already grown into that man, before this voyage. James had only just reached it thru this voyage. I wish he could have lived to be the man that he became thru these experiences. They grant men the opportunity to become wiser - but it's never without intense sufferring. We are each only as strong as the forces we've had to overcome.
