    Shit batoning, man! A knife is a knife! An axe an axe! A hatchet a hatchet! A Garrit is …

  • @Revelation1316
    @Revelation1316 10 місяців тому

    "Garberg a winner?" Not necessarily. Its a knife not an axe, I rarelt need to baton where I live. Another consideration is weight. Besides I gave my Garber away and brought a Terava Puukko 110. The handle while generous, lacked finesse, but the leather sheath was great - simple/minimalist and smelt gorgeous!

    Hele goede video maar wil even opmerken dat de manier waarop je de ui snijdt een beetje gevaarlijk is. Beter snijdt je hem eerst doormidden zodat je de helften stevig kan neerleggen alvorens je begint te snijden!

    A Gurkha that gifted me one of these during OEF said (via translator) the notch was to prick your finger, because you shouldn't pull the blade from the sheath without drawing blood. If you draw it but don't draw blood with it (during a fight) you're supposed to prick your own finger before putting it back.

    • @pennsyltuckyreb9800
      @pennsyltuckyreb9800 Рік тому

      Yeah, a lot of them say that, but that's not the purpose for it. It's a b@d@$$ tradition, though. Plus, many notches don't come sharp/pointy enough to prick yourself to draw blood. You'd have to sharpen down the point to pull that off. Also, being that the traditional khukuri doesn't have a finger guard, that's a bad idea for your fingers when fighting with it. There is still no known "offical" reason for the notch. Religious, stops blood from running down the handle (it doesn't), shock absorbtion, etc. Many theories, though. Goes way back in the mists of time...

    OK... so you fiddle with it for a couple of hours and call it a good knife... Yes, Helle is good; Yes, the workmanship appears nice but to really understand the strengths and weaknesses of a tool one must spend a lot of time with it. And, what did Stroud do to make this knife so great? Who's perfection is it, Helle or Stroud? OK, it looks sharp. Then so is mine. Any follow-ups on this knife today in 2022? How easy is it to sharpen; how is the edge holding up after EXTENSIFE use? BTW, not a good "chopper". Strange.

    So, some help concerning the ferro rod…. The sharpening steel that comes with the kukri… does a better job on the ferro rod than the kukri itself. Harder steel, sharp 90*, and much more control with the rod. Or you can hold the kukri down at the tinder and pull the ferro rod back, that way youre not waving around such a large slab of flesh eating steel. Cheers mate!

    Hey man, according to the Gurkha's you don't wrap your hand around the sheathe. Reason being, is the blade facing part of the sheathe is more commonly cut through, deteriorated, or softened due to wear and age. This would cause the blade to slice into or through your fingers/hand/whatever is there.
