    Dude I wish I could go across the pond to either europe or aus. In canada the round is just not popular at all. Youre hard pressed to find box ammo. Hard to find rifles. You guys seem to have more luck with that

    mind you, those cheap rifles, like Stirling, Norinco, Bruno copy eg puma they are called now, with match ammo shoot as accurate. the old Lithgow's shoot great too, old bsa sportsman 5s, long barrels shoot inconsistent ammo more consistent than a short barrel. not many people can fork out a grand or more to shoot. if you have the cash, its a life time rifle for sure. but the price of ammo alone is way way too dear., in 2024.

    I have a Ruger #3 in .22 hornet, and it is a tack driver. Extremely accurate. I have considered converting it to the K. It was my late wife's favorite rifle to shoot. The Hornet has been around since 1930!

    The K hornet addresses the major flaw of the hornet: the stretching of the shallow sloped necks of the cases when reloading.

    Unfortunately, the mystic concoctions you speak of, such as 2205 and Li’l Gun are pie in the sky these days. May as well use dried out Unicorn tears. Seriously though, I’m trying 2207 and I’ve discovered Vihtavuori N-110 in my Hornet. A pound of the N-110 costs about the same as a kilo of ADI, but you use bugger all of it, so it will stretch out a bit: swings and roundabouts. The N-110 does seem to have a little bit more “zip” than the 2207, and it’s showing some promise in my Zastava M-85 Hornet, particularly with 40 grain V-Max and 45 grain Speer Spitzers. I’m currently waiting for my Anschutz Hornet to come back from the Gunsmith as a K-Hornet, and we’ll try both those powders there too. Interesting times…

    Thanks for your insight into the Lithgow 101. Just wondering if you could help me decide between that particular rifle and a Weihrauch HW66. I intend getting a Lithgow 102 in 6.5 Creedmoor and thought a .22 in the same configuration would be handy as a trainer for the 6.5 to develop good technique but am torn between the 101 and the HW66. I know you have both and would appreciate your thoughts between the two. Cheers

    I like the 22 Hornet. I have a k hornet rifle. Old 1915 single shot action . Drop block Stevens. With a martini cadet 22 barrel. My hornet is the short case chamber. Made short for revolver cylender lingth. Not as hot as the standard 22 k hornet. I will chanber for a revolver next.

  • @2clicksup910
    @2clicksup910 8 місяців тому

    My Zastava M-85 is a 1:16 twist. It seems to like the 35 Grain V-Max, and it doesn’t mind the 40 Grainers as well as the 45 grain Speer soft points. 50 grain Speer TNT Hollow Points we’re all over the shop, as were the Speer 33 Grain Hollow Points. Got an Anschutz 1434 that’s getting the “K” treatment as we speak. The 33’s will be used to fire form some brass, but I’ll just do some factory PPU ammo, as it’s just as cheap. Can only load with ADI 2207, as those other substances they speak of, like 2205 and Li’l Gun, are pure sorcery and totally unavailable. I’ll give the 50’s a go in the “K”, but I’m not overly confident.

    I am arriving three years after this was posted. I bought a Lithgow LA101 in .22lr, Titanium Ceracote with walnut stock, six years ago. I use it to compete in my local Benchrest competition in "hunter class". We shoot alongside the "target class" with their fancy rifles that cost 7 to 10 times the price of the Lithgow. Not only do I come home with a medal every time except the first day I competed and a day last year when I was unwell, most of my medals are gold. All bar three of the others are silver and those three are bronze. On several occasions, I have outscored the fancy "target" rifles. I currently use a ZeroTech Thrive HD scope. Brilliant setup and it makes me look good.

    G'day. I'm up in Cairns. Building a K Hornet on a ZKW465 at the moment. I've never in my life seen Lil Gun for sale up here. W296 is also excellent aparrently but rare as rocking horse poo. Hopefully I can get 2205 to work OK. Cheers for the video.

    Heading this way now, so this is great information. I’ll be loading the standard Hornet with ADI 2207 powder, and I intend to load the K-Hornet with the same powder and projectiles. Is there any difference in accuracy using a standard Hornet loading loaded into a K-Hornet case?

    • @ozcountryliving4751
      @ozcountryliving4751 Рік тому

      @@ozcountryliving4751 as I can be somewhat indecisive, I couldn’t workout which way to go, so I have purchased 2 X 22 Hornets (both really nice rifles). 1 of which will get the “K” treatment. How much hotter were you able to take the K-Hornet before pressure signs appeared?

    • @ozcountryliving4751
      @ozcountryliving4751 Рік тому

      @2clicksup910 mate hornets are pretty forgiving. I have never experienced over pressure in any of my experimenting.

    November 2023: .22 Hornet is from 1920s. Longer ago than thought, it seems. K Hornet around 1940 according to an article by Dave Cambell. I do have a Ruger 77/22 in Hornet, and I am tempted to rechamber to K configuration. Haven't yet as one cannot go back. I must get it out to the range more. But it is currently too cold and I tend to be side tracked easily. I have done the trick of firing a cartridge in a slightly different chamber to alter the shape a bit. In the U. S., this is known as 'fire-forming' for what I hope is obvious. I would recommend annealing the case down, just past the anticipated shoulder as it helps forming without over working the brass. I really think I should start looking for a proper gunsmith for this job.

    • @jocelynlacharite
      @jocelynlacharite 9 місяців тому

      I'd go for a spare 22K Hornet barrel for the 77/22 as barrel change is simple on this rifle...

    Very Kool with a "k"! lol Very interesting about just firing a regular hornet shell to create the (birth) K Hornet shell. I did not know that and it adds weight in a tough decision to convert my 22 Hornet. 22H was the First caliber rifle I ever shot a deer with back in the 80s. Dropped it on the spot as well. First memory of a great hunt with the parents and other relatives. (I was the youngest) Took me a long time to find a 22 Hornet as the owner of that particular little rifle wouldn't part with it as it's been with him since his time over seas. Anyway, my hornet is strictly for trapping and fur bearing animals but also target practice. The scarcity of brass let alone factory loads got me into reloading, which as you said Is fun! (some of my fam don't realize that yet though haha) Long story short... thank you for the excellent vid. You got me closer to thinking I should convert my 22 Hornet... without worry of doing more harm then good. :)

    Good video. Thanks for sharing. I thought the same thing about the on / off switch. Then I read most of the sheet that came with it, and discovered that it isnt an on / off switch at all, it is a one direction / reverse switch. In the left (1) position, the tumbler rolls one way and then switches direction.
