F1 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix | Post Qualifying Press Conference
Mercedes driver George Russell stormed to pole position for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, edging out Ferrari rival Carlos Sainz and the high-flying Alpine of Pierre Gasly in Friday night’s pulsating qualifying session.
Having topped final practice and led the way after the first Q3 runs, Russell posted a time of 1m 32.312s on his final lap to secure the top spot and end a run of Ferrari and McLaren poles stretching back to his P1 performance at Silverstone in July.
“It feels incredible to be back on pole,” said pole-sitter Russell. “We’ve been so quick all weekend and I just knew coming into that last Q3 lap… that’s going to be the one that counts. It doesn’t matter what’s happened before then.
“I had a bit of a moment on my first run and we had to change the front wing, so there was a moment when I thought we weren’t going to make the flag. I’m just so happy. We’ve got to do some deep diving to understand why we’ve been so quick so far this weekend because it was a real surprise.”
Sainz was a tenth of a second back, while Pierre Gasly and Alpine built on their sensational double podium finish at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix last time out to deliver another eye-catching result in third place.
Pierre Gasly proved that his sensational podium finish in Brazil was not just a lucky one-off after he qualified in P3 for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, taking advantage of Alpine’s recent upturn in form.
“It was an incredible lap, especially around this track you’re flirting with the walls everywhere through the lap - a lot of adrenaline, a lot of excitement. I knew crossing the line it was a good lap, but when they came up on the radio telling me we’re lining up third tomorrow… it’s just amazing so really happy.”
The result is Gasly’s best qualifying since he entered F1 back in 2017 and provides further indication that Alpine have harnessed the upgrades they introduced in Austin just over a month ago.
Charles Leclerc had to settle for fourth in his Ferrari, with championship rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris set to share the third row of the grid for Red Bull and McLaren in P5 and P6 respectively.
Yuki Tsunoda delivered a strong run to seventh in his RB, as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton completed the top-10 - the Mercedes man looking strong early on but making mistakes on both Q3 laps.

Just carlos winning hearts❤❤❤
The guy that ruined F1.
O ronco dos motores desses carros é muito viciante é bacana.
Talk about a brilliant buildup to a race!!! Knowing that Mercedes & Red Bull had matching top speed in qualifying has just guaranteed that the Vegas race is going to be very exciting. ha-ha Lando going for broke; Russell over driving & hitting the wall; Checo transforming into a street race master as soon as his tires get into the optimum window; Hamilton on a mission to prove a point; Sainz maximizing the capability of his car; LeClerc being clinical; The list just keeps going on & on. Ha-ha

Agreed ! Thank you !
Dear UA-cam your more interested in profanity than the truth sticks and stone will break your bone but words will never hurt you, hopefully someone will show you how it works, your efforts to take the laze way out are lame at best!
Carlos just told these two boys how to fight MAX toe to toe, a masterclass from Sainz. SAINZ dominance will not bore F1
The way Lando speaks is like a typical brit driver. Never does anything wrong but all other drivers are at fault. Why does others get 10sec and clearly all brit drivers just a 5sec. This bias ridiculous shit should stop.
Really like how Charles takes responsibility for his race perf. No blaming the car, setup, weather, other drivers.
how did avoid copyright claim on this?
The look in his eyes when he talks about winning in front of his Mum! 😊
Very difficult questions for Lando. He did well in his replies.
Getting a old broke down bloke for sainz … hez gonna complain all the way and dont forget cry!!! U know who he is!!!
Carlos such a gem 💎 we will cheering for you wherever you are❤
Crybaby Lando! It’s a good momentum for him, but he will never be WC! Few drivers have the WC breed, and Max’s is unique!
you sound like the crybaby. Lando gave a perfect response to the interviewer that was just trying to spark up drama. i hate people like you, you ruin the sport.
@@parzival016 100% agree. How unnecessary to comment so negatively.
you literally sound like the immature crybaby you claim others to be...😂😂
Such a baby Lando! Grow Up
Unnecessary negative comment.
Max would smash into Lando to secure the championship..... Thats how winners win.
Just like Senna ;)
I think formula1 is so much better without Verstappen. The Podium is so much more enjoyable when he is not there. Carlos is a gentleman and a very good competitor, so I Lando and indeed Charles. These men know how to race in a fair manner. Verstappen on the other hand has no idea how to race wheel to wheel competitively without force other competitors off track. He has a history of such antics on track. All of 2021 with Lewis is evident on that, and when Riccardo was his teammate. I would love nothing better than to see Verstappen out of Formula1.
Sam ething that all the greats did, I don't like it eather, but Verstapppen is doing things that all Michael did, Senna, Prost, Hamilton, it's harsh racing but in some cases it's necessary. On the end of the day, don't hate the player, hate the game.
Your opinion don't matter, you don't exist in the F1 world lol. F1 will be better without toxic so called fans like you. F1 will be better without brit drivers and that bias skyf1 pundits that's so pathetic and they like a bunch of clowns in a circus, with brundle the main clown he can retire do us all a favor
F1 will be even better without British bias and drivers. Always victims mentality. Today's weekend showed what a masterclass of a racer Max is.
Charles can make pizzas for the FIA stewards . That’s a nice punishment.
Have u seen Charles doing pizza? Bet it’s not him to take a penalty…
AMAZING GUYS ❤
Yes. Max is a very good driver (like the GOATS: Ayrton Senna and Schumacker)
Max is great, but please don't compare with Senna. Senna sacrificed his races to protect his co-drivers.
Grow up Norris, this is a man's world.
Growing up is knowing the rules and abiding by them. Max can’t admit that he was pushing the limit and went over that limit. What kind of man can’t admit his faults?
@saberathena468 Max is always pushing the limit and he exepted the penalties so what are you brabbling about?
@@zeffie100 Why are the rules are created in F1? To make this sport safe as previously many drivers died. They need the rules so that the driver will be able to finished the race without having accident or even worse someone injured/died. Yes we need to push the limit as a F1 driver but as everyone also a grown up man in the man world, they should follow the rules to show that they are not babies or kids. You can race hard and over the limit but fair and square. That is even better that see someone injured or die.
@@wanmahat2164 hahaha youre full of crap...!
@@zeffie100 what an amazing counter-argument! Bravo! You must be very smart!! Also it's: "you're"... just a little thing you should have learnt in 1st grade.
What’s a misfire?
The engine can’t burn the fuel quick enough and the fuel builds up, then one big explosion happens from all the fuel being ignited at once. It’s when a car backfires.
22:30 Oh no Charles! Just an Inchident on the interview.
the journalist did him dirty🤣
@@kridopratama it's true 😂
Say it as it is: Max plays dirty like Schumacher did. Punt him off like he'd do to anyone thoughout his career. Had the best car for years and resorts to any tactic to win currently. We all see it.
There is really no need to complaint about Verstappen's dangerous driving. If his dangerous driving goes unpunished, then he is right to assume that it was in fact, not dangerous. Keep giving him +20s penalties, strikes on his license, and escalating punishment... that's how he knows that he has to change his approach and push the envelope in different way. Drivers like Max, Michael, etc. They are drivers who seek to test the rules not live under it.
Max Verstappen is the modern day Michael Schumacher in both raw talent and driving antics
@@trqster I think he’s actually fairer than Schumacher: go back and watch the old races. Verstappen is not as drama and he’s more psychological. He’s closer to Senna bit Max is Max and racing would be boring without him. Additionally, Max isn’t really an asshole. Let me explain. He’s a very geeky racer and in his own head. He’s not egotistical or braggadocios.
why last ... the season is still on going
He feels the others are better and winning might be difficult…so his chances of Winning were slim so making it happen is a big one.
Sainz made a super move to catch Max. But Lando was the fastest. He deserves to win the championship
Not true, it sould and will be Max
There is no point about worrying how Max races. He will do anything to win. The concern of the rest with Red Bull was never their speed or team or adjustments or anything, it's one crazy driver who is both skilled and aggressive and cannot accept being overtaken. Lando did the right thing to stay safe, he's dealing with not just one of the best but also the most psychopathic drivers in F1 history.
Carlos explained for once how to react to Max. Don’t beat Max by being Max which is what Lando has been doing. Max is in Lando’s head and knows what he’s doing to do so Lando tries to do what Max does. Carlos races his own race and performed great. As a Max fan I’m happy for Carlos.
Redbull = Toxic & Pathetic Team,, like at 2021, they start to control the narrative on the media, its a 2021 dejavu, because they cant stand any competition, soon they will start to attack norris personal life.. Redbull & Verstappen did not deserve anything this season,, embarassing team
Max’ mentor is a former f1 driver who was on a podium twice but never won a single race. He came from the era of being a “dirty” driver is the key to survival. We didn’t see his dirty driving for two years because he was either 10 or 20 seconds ahead of Checo. I said this somewhere, Max will defend his position. If a 7x WC who was driving the constructors champ in 2021 lost his reign over Max, Lando must work incredibly hard to win the WDC.
So did Max in 2021 he was than also ahead in pionts
@@ingridvaneijk2097 exactly. RB was second in constructors that year. He outperformed Lewis and Valtteri even with their supreme engine. Lewis’ fans refuse to analyze the entire season of 2021. Their denial was too much, they only focused on the last race and accused Masi.
@@JessicaBuena000Lol what "Supreme Engine" 2018 and 2019 Ferrari had superior engines and arguably a superior car overall. 2021 it was relatively even between RB and Mercedes, RB was also faster in testing. Abu Dhabi at the end is all that mattered Lewis was running away with that race then Masi decided to change the rules mid race. You can say Verstappen "deserved it" but at the end of the day in the race that mattered he didn't beat Lewis. The FIA did.

Carlos is such a family man. Rebecca is lucky. He’s so proud to have impressed his mother. 😊😊😊 I’m blushing for her!
family came because it's said Mexico has good tacos ;)
Max dont care about driving clean. He knows that he is the best driver on the grid but he also knows that his car is not competetive at the moment so he will do everything to get the championship. Schumacher mentality right there
Fair take. Accurate.
Indeed. Psychopath mentality, has nothing to do with sports. In F1 psychos can be heroes (for some).
Verstappen is trash. Most overrated driver probably ever.
@@JimmyBlandfood Lol, he's about to be 4 time WDC and you're saying he's overrated🤣
@@aakashbhosale9140 he is going to stay as the 2 times WC,, he's overrated and his first title is a love gift from massi,, the best max can do is crashing, crashing, and crashing..
2:40 Take notes from Sainz. You're gonna need this for the rest of the races Norris.
You forget that Max doesn't defend against other drivers, only the driver he needs to beat. He made no effort to defend against Carlos, completely different scenario. So if Lando dives for an overtake like Carlos did on Max, he would end up in the back of Max's car or on the grass.
@@alex_liu1max benefits from Carlos going ahead too, Carlos in clean air will be harder for lando to catch, minimising points losses for himself
Carlos in a Red Bull 😮❤
Max the cheat...
Max look so sed 😅
If George had not have crashed Carlos was on for a p1 quali
Carlos is such a mature dude. I'm sure you all know what I mean.
The way Charles & Max just got away at the end 😂 Bro was like ok any more... Ok no more Thank you!
Stappen is a dirty bastard ,he also went off track
Surprise than Max does accept to reply in detail to the question! I thought he was still waiting for FIA apologies before accepting elaborating answers
I somehow want Carlos to win in Mexico 🤗
Honestly it feels like a mistake to move on from Sainz after how this season has played out. I know Hamilton is the GOAT, but Ferrari is finally in the best place in years, and they are bringing in a number 1 driver to go against their number 1 driver. I guess in theory it can be great, but will it really be?
It's mostly a money move. Hamilton is gonna be the face of Ferrari for 2 years, everyone wants the merch, if Ham wins something it'll be a romantic dream, and I doubt Hamilton's floor is much worse than how Sainz has been performing. After 2 years Ham is probably retiring at Ferrari, so that's a nice honours ceremony (more money), Bearman is most likely ready for the promotion, so you even avoid the difficult decision of dropping a solid driver for the new talent.
Fact is imagine if every driver defended like that and takes the inside line and deliberately brakes too late into a corner to force the other off and also go off track while doing so.. it would make overtaking impossible unless the straight is long enough. Which would be boring as fuck. Heavily against this being allowed. Big thumbs down F1
Guess you dont know Leclerc who is crafty with divebombs. Divebombs are allowed, its not an unbeatable move. Go pay attention to Charles Leclerc and you will see how you need to deal with dive bombs.
Eh, Lando never even tried to catch Max on the inside of 12. The rules could definitely use a revision of some sort regarding the importance of the apex, but I think Lando's box of overtaking tricks needs a few more tools if he wants to beat Max without massive overspeed. Unfortunately for Lando and us, we havent seen that many proper wheel to wheel battles between Max and Lando, so there arent many opportunities for Lando to learn.
@@virgilma6153 very true some other drivers are guilty of doing this. I was more implying if every single driver at every single corner defends on the inside and goes completely off the track too similar to that race or Brazil 21. I just think the rule should be changed if the defender also goes completely off track. Just too dodgy, dangerous and unsportsman like for my taste
Elbows sitting in third...why? He was more interested in robbing Norris face in the mud...gave away another win...
