Arctic Monkeys - Fake Tales of San Francisco Guitar Tribute
I've always loved this song. This is a good song to practice your on and off both hand mutes, and also sticking the notes instead of sending them into Zakk Wylde squealy vibrato land. I remember Tom Bukovac said something about how people hide behind their vibrato, and sometimes [a lot of times] you should just stick the notes, like it exudes confidence.
As always, I am making these videos as more of a tribute and thank you to the bands for making such kickass guitar music. With that said, they are frequently not straight covers and I take some creative liberties. Sometimes it's combining multiple guitar parts into something I could play by myself to try to cover most of the bases, a lot of times it's my dotted eighth note delay mayhem. It's just kinda my thing. I sprinkle it on a lot, but I promise I would dial it back in a band situation. :) A lot of these videos are made as a sort of "recital" where I take a song I wanted to learn that would be performable in a live band situation. Sometimes the video is the culmination of where I've taken the guitar part to as a way of documenting how I played it. [I imagine myself looking back on videos years down the road like, "how did I play that part?"] Some songs, like the one in this case, are ones that I've played forever and am finally getting around to recording.
My favorite thing is probably when some guitarist comments that they are so happy because the video helped them learn the song. I also think of these videos as a body of work that could kind of pre-qualify me for an audition if there was an opportunity to fill a guitar slot in a band. The actually recording the audio and video part is helping to hone that skill, and to be used to seeing the red light going and just feeling used to it. Listening with a critical ear. Becoming a better player. Learning shit. A video will get 50 views in a year, or 300 views in 3 days. I'm sure it all just depends on the song. And of course, you probably notice that I do a lot of songs that you just don't see on UA-cam. [I do a lot of songs that you do see too.]
Anyway, really chatty tonight. I'm in a good production groove and am able to crank these out without too much trouble. I have a lot of ideas for next songs. I want to start rolling in original content, as the "pressure" of putting a completed work on UA-cam is a good thing to help drive projects to completion. Learning how to play a song always adds a new tool to the kit, and ultimately I learn how to play songs that I would want to write like in a band scenario.
I'm excited about this video because I feel that it adds a little excitement and spice to a song that has remained a favorite of mine for so many years.
Thank you for checking it out. I love all the tens of likes and comments, and please subscribe! It helps with absolutely nothing, but I do like the connection. --Nate

Charlatans - Tremelo Song Guitar Tribute
Переглядів 1016 місяців тому
One of my favorite songs from probably my favorite album of all time. This is one of the only videos I've put out that has some full-on reinterpretation and use of guitar not found on the original track. I love the song as-is; this is just my imagined part I'd play if the band invited me to join on stage. Sorry if there's any hate. Quickly, run and listen to the original for a palate cleanser! ...
Coriky - Clean Kill Guitar Tribute

This one took a while to play as cleanly and evenly as possible with some of those wide string intervals. I also play it alternate picking, and it's a little different feel. It also took me a while to figure out that the music is not in standard Eb. It's sharp just the right amount. It always sounded like shit before I figured that out. Best second half of any song out there. What a jam! Approx...
Boards of Canada - Olson Guitar Tribute

I don't know. It just felt right. Around drop C#. My baritone Fender Tele Deluxe through the Hungry Robot "The Wash" reverb/delay/wash pedal [pic at end of vid] into the Fractal Neil Schon Green Channel with a 12" Celestion 15 watt alnico blue back speaker. I dedicate this video to all my friend, Dan Olson. Boards of Canada - "Olson" from their 1998 "Music Has the Right to Children" record.
Spoon - Execution Guitar Tribute

I've got some Spoon songs up my sleeve, but I should have way more. They have been one of the best things going for a long time. I love how in the verse Britt makes the B note fret out; I do my best to replicate it. If I was in a band, this is what I would try to make my bread and butter. Taut, sparse, hard-hitting, every guitar note, every drum hit, every word, every clap counts. Cheers!

The Wrens - Everyone Chooses Sides Guitar Tribute

I love this song. I love the Wrens. I wanted to learn all the guitar parts and come up with a guitar arrangement that touches all the bases. The way the distorted guitar sounds at the beginning and in the main riff is not a mistake - it's that way on the record. It's so badass! I think the guitar parts and the major second harmony siren sounding parts are so great. Using the Stealth Red Channel...
240107 Superdrag - Keep It Close To Me / Gimme Animosity - Guitar Tribute

I dare you to write two better songs back to back to kick off your epic LP. Jonathan Davis is a genius. Buy all his everything. To me, these two songs are the epitome of lean, muscular, power chord progression perfection. Playing songs like this can do wonders for how pocket you are. When I record these vids, I've GENERALLY been playing the song for a while. But looking back, I am always amazed...
240107 Def Leppard - Guitar Tribute
Переглядів 97Рік тому
Def Leppard was probably MY first band when I was in 3rd and 4th grade and then years later in middle school when Hysteria came out it was an f'n confusing hot mess for me anyway lol. They were never the same. There's some great guitar on the early records and Steve Clark was truly a riffmaster. I always wanted to learn this song, and in my younger years I remember it being frustrating even to ...
240105 Clearlake - Neon Guitar Tribute
Переглядів 36Рік тому
These Clearlake albums were there for me in the early 2000s. Too good. Jason Pegg is still at it. He's ridiculous. Check him out. This song just fucking rocks and has this [to me] surprisingly tricky main riff that is repeated through the song. It's the 4ths. Anytime you add this fast single note 4th stuff, it sounds exciting. Instead of running a normal scale or pentatonic run or riff, when yo...
Stone Temple Pilots - All In The Suit That You Wear - Guitar Tribute DROP D

I've always said the DeLeo brothers know all the chords, and in this one they even pull out a George Lynch chord! IFKYK Not a lot going on here, but really fun for me to dig in and try to [successfully] play so hard it makes the guitar go out of tune. As with everything I do, please take it with a grain of salt. It's neither perfect nor correct, I just try to connect and make it rock. For picki...
Superdrag - Feeling Like I Do - Guitar Tribute DAEGBE
Переглядів 1 тис.Рік тому
I've always loved so many Superdrag songs and in recent years made it a point to learn some of them. This was a frustrating song to figure out and I can't say I've really nailed it, but this is the best my ear can currently pull off. I believe it's tuned DAEGBE which is just wicked to play, and sounds massive. It's my first go with the Fractal FM3, hopefully things evolve from here. As always, ...
Wunderhorse - Leader of the Pack - Guitar Tribute

The record "Cub" from Wunderhorse that came out last fall was just the shot in the arm that I needed. Do go check it out. If you like indie guitar, and beautiful songwriting, this could be the one for you, too. I could break strings to this record all day.
