Hayden Baker Kline is a British-American composer based in Dublin, Ireland. He specializes in film, television, and theatre compositions. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Music & Technology at Trinity College Dublin.

Polytunality (2024) | New Music Written for Multiple Tuning Systems
Polytunality is a composition of vocal music that explores using tuning systems as a compositional tool. Each movement explores a different facet of tuning systems, as explored below. This music was created for completion of an MPhil at Trinity College Dublin's Music & Media Technologies program 2024. Supervised by Dr Ann Cleare and advised by Dr Enda Bates and Dr Dermot Furlong. This video was adapted from the score to make the use of tuning systems more visually apparent and formatted for video playback.

I. Tuning explores "fractional" (just) tuning systems, ones that prioritise the harmonic resonances of tones over other considerations. For Polytunality, this includes Five-Limit tuning, the Pythagorean system, the Harmonic Series, and Quarter-Comma Meantone.
II. Dissonance experiments with various equally-tempered systems, those that use notes that are equidistant from one another (by cents). For Polytunality, this includes various x-tone equal-temperament (TET), like 10TET, 12TET, 19TET, 23TET, and 31TET, as well as non-octave systems like the Tritave and Alpha systems.
III. Space uses tuning systems that naturally emerged from various cultural or traditional practices. This includes Gamelan systems like Pelog and Slendro, as well as the Turkish Çârgâh makam and the Arabic Huzam maqam.
Finally, IV. Polytunes uses the previous three pieces to create a variably shifting set of tones as the music reaches its climax.
