Love your Crocosmia, Leaners! Are you getting alot of hummers?
Cousin Rich here from the reunion/Birthday yesterday. My girlfriend and I were amazed by all the beautiful varieties of violets that you have. You have inspired to adding violets to our succulent collection. Also copied your treatment for powdery mildew. My girlfriend and I would love to come and see your violet collection. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Have a good one.
I feel honored to have been an inspiration. Other violet growers before me were the same for me. I really enjoy "The Gray Turtle" and "Rick Orchids" His old videos on violets from 4 years ago. He no longer does the violets which is sad cause he was really good at it. violets can be finicky. I am always learning something. My computer was hacked so I've not done a video in a while. Its repaired and back so I will be doing videos this week including my new grow room showing all 100 of my violets. So stay tuned!!!
cut the baking soda by half. the african violets handle it a lot better
Goid job 😮❤
Don't ever buy your husband a chainsaw for Christmas for his birthday or any occasion they are not professional tree Fellers they are husbands who probably don't know how to use that thing he came with two legs and two arms let's try to keep him that way
Thanks for responding so fast!! I use the same Bonide granules, and repotting upon receiving the plants! Quarantine for 6-8 weeks, and still they are dying!! What watering system do you use? From the top, bottom or wick? Appreciate all info that I can get!! Thanks again!! Best luck
I water the babies from the top with a Walmart ,BBQ sauce bottle I never soak the babies cause the have very limited root structure. I will only water on one side of the pot so the babies can breath better. I place a chair under every pot so they never sit in water. I use old Bottle caps as a chair for the babies. Stay very light on the fertilizer and do not feed for the first week. I buck the system on the adults. I guess I'm a bit of a Maverick! LOL. I do not wick water. I hate that slimy string dangling there when handling the plants. Instead I use a two pot system. I have the pot the plant is potted in and a second pot with no holes and a chair to sit on. For adults only, I fill the outer vessel with luke warm water and set the plant in it for 5 minutes to soak it up from the bottom. after 5 minutes I dump all the water and put the pot back in the outer vessel on the chair. I wait another 15 minutes then dump any remaining water. I have the plants on the counter under low light the entire time. Then I put them back on the grow shelf with the lights off for two hours. I turn off the lights because even the slightest drop of water on a leaf will cause a brown spot if the lights are on. I do this about once a week but this may vary in every house. Basically I wait till they are bone dry before watering. I also wait a few days before treating the babies with Bonide, and use only a sixteenth of a teaspoon on top of soil. Once they are established I up that to 1/8th teaspoon of Bonide.
@@leaners62very valuable information, thank so much!! May I ask you more questions in the future? Best regards, Marina
@@marinatuberman3489 absolutely
Good morning AV enthusiast!! You have very nice collection of healthy plants! I used to buy plants from the same source ( from Etsy), but mine plants don’t survive! Some of them were too small and didn’t grow enough root system, others had trips and didn’t make it! I have a question: do you do incoming prophylaxis for your plants? Spraying with insecticide or other sprays, and quarantine?? For your knowledge, there is some online stores where you might buy the same varieties cheaper: Linda Secret Garden and Heavenly Creation Nursery! Good luck!!
Good morning to you too. I quarantine all plants for approximately 6 weeks in separate back room. I repot all plants appon arrival. I treat with systemic Bonide with all plants, every 8 weeks, on surface of soil if not repotting. I keep a written schedule. If a plant struggles I will bag it. If it still struggles I may decapitate and strip the leaves leaving at least 3 leaves on the crown, repot and bag it for two weeks. Bad roots are far more deadly than no roots. Any new arrivals that look suspicious are (INSV) tested. I keep tests in fridge at all times. I only test plants that are not thriving or look suspicious. I did get one positive out of 80 new starters. SCARY!!! The tests are expensive. I get the tests from "AGDIA" I buy the 25 pack. I have ordered plant starters, from over ten different vendors. I buy from whom ever has the plant I am searching for at a reasonable price. My healthiest plants have been from Lyndon Lyon. My healthiest hybrids are LLG hybrids regardless of whom I go thru. Starters are very fragile. My quarantine room is highly temperature controlled with a ceiling fan on low at all times. I live at 500 feet elevation near Mount Rainier. Thrips are not a problem here but powdery mildew is. Good air flow is vital with a stable temp of 78 for the babies. 75 for established plants. This has worked for me. If a plants still wont thrive I will toss it. Only one has been tossed out of 80 Plants. The only spraying I do is for powdery mildew. Hope this all this was not too much of an earful. Again I want to thank you for taking the time to watch my video. Sincerely, Leaners
Wow! I just have a couple of green stalks coming out.
when did you plant it
it has to sit in the ground for ten months over winter. if you just planted it, then a few stalks sounds about right. leave it till next June and feed it over the summer and winter. harvest late next June.
Dear Violet Wall Flower, I really enjoyed this video of some very beautiful and unusual African violets. What I liked very much is that you showed each violet in detail, and did not rush. Also, you showed the name of each violet very clearly, and, once again, did not rush. This was just about !the right number violets for one video. When there are too many, one suffers from ‘violet indigestion’. I have only one suggestion : the music could be less loud, softer, background, and more contemplative. Just a suggestion. I encourage you to make more such videos on violets. This one was very enjoyable and exceptionally good. Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis London, Ontario, Canada.
Thank you so much for the tip. I am still in the process of learning video editing. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video. Thanks again, Leaners
Jute string self-destructs naturally and is sold in a good-sized roll at Dollar-and-a-quarter (plus tax) Tree! Garden on, friend. What zone are you in? I'm in z5b, Milwaukee, Wisc where I'm still planting our community bed in our garden. I'm almost ready to harvest my second year's (Y2)Transylvanian garlic, which is still quite tasty, trimmed of roots and stalk. Your video is well-done and informative. I couldn't recall about the [clove-size : bulb-size] ratio/correlation, so thanks for clearing that for me! We will try different garlic-spots in the garden this fall, Y3.
I love the jute. I mistakenly called it hemp. I am in zone 8 at 500 feet elevation. We have rather cold nights here with hot days. I am at the base of Mt Rainier. I'm sure it has a huge impact on our weather. Thanks for watching the channel. Sincerely Leaners
AHHHHHHHHH I LOVE TURTLES!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your new plants.
Thanks for visiting
Hello and greetings from germany! I have violets for more than 20 years, and I will give you some tips (so sorry for my englisch☺) Your pots for mother plants are a lot to big, use these white mugs for big plants. I have all my mother plants in 6cm Pots, older plants are in 8 or 10cm pots. If you want, try the following: Take Plagron Pro mix, if available, and mix it with perlite. My winning mix is 1 cup of Pro mix soil and 1 1/2 cups of Perlite, but your soil looks good, I don't use vermiculite at all. All my "adult violets" grow at 22°C and wick watering. I mix 1/4 fertilizer into the water and 2ml hydrogen peroxide.
thank you so much for the tips i appreciate it very much. I recently repotted everyone and move all the miniatures into smaller pots. I also just ordered smaller pots on amazon for the larger violets. I've been doing 1/4 fertilizer (just ordered Jacks 20/20) but did not know the ratio to use hydrogen peroxide. is that 2ml per gallon or liter. LOL were still on the kings foot here. thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos. and the advice helps a lot.
:v
Thank you for showing! They're gorgeous! 😍😍
You are so welcome!
Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful and informative. Your violets are beautiful! 🌸 Hope you’ll feel better soon and hoping your 4 Scorching Suns will healthily grow. ☀️
Thank you so much!
Bro u filipino?
nope
Beautiful!! 💜💙💜
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for the video! Im new to African violets. How many times do you need to soak the sick plants with this solution?
You need to do it only once. It works for sure and you can do a ( top only) minus the flowers as a preventive. If the plant is in bloom just cover the flowers and lightly mist the top of the leaves.. do this just once in spring and once early September as a preventative. These are the high risk times. Good luck!
Only once needed. If it comes back you can do it again. I do not apply more than once every two weeks. Keep plant in the dark till dry. I have reduced the baking soda by half with the neem and soap the same. I just sprayed every single plant I have two weeks ago and they look great. My plants kept getting the mildew and I finally fixed the problem. Watch for my new videos. I've been gone a while cause my computer got hacked. But its all fixed! I will address the mildew issue with more detail. Thanks a million for watching my videos, Sincerely, Leaners
They look beautiful!!!
thank you XOXO
Wow, beautiful!! 🩷
