    I am in LOOOOVE with his mean 㧠1/10 scale R/C built in the same drag radial style as the life-sized toy. The 1st time I seen that when they came out back in '20, I kinda thought about buildin' 1 to match mines...but it'd be nice if I was anywhere NEAR buildin' mine 1st😂

    Vee it out and fill in with JB WELD or braze it or if you have the KNOW HOW WELD IT UP,,,, PREHEAT THE BLOCK WITH A PROPANE WEED BURNER AND WELD A LITTLE ATTA TIME!! OR YOU CAN DRILL A HOLE ON EACH END TO STOP IT FROM SPREADING,, THEN DRILL A HOLE TAP IT PUT A BOLT PLUG IN,, THEN OVERLAP THAT UNTIL TO THE END LIKE THE OLD TIMERS USED TO DO!!!?

    Fixable , at considerable cost. I've a 400 SBC circle track short blk with cast iron repair between 2 cylinders that's been raced and street rodded since bought it used 1984. Don't know who fixed it , but obviously done well. Has survived many 100 mile trips to dragstrip & 7k runs . It's .030 over, destroked with lg journal 327 crank for 350cid circle race class.

    That's not the worst of it but you got a giant old crack on the bottom of the block too considering it's upside down it's at the top that's on the firewall too the back of it

    Did this for 7 years. I'm having having painful flashbacks of putting together 5 valve Audi heads now. Instead of the stem I would always put a tiny dab of grease on both sides of the keeper. Disassembly was easier, I had a set of pipes that I'd wrap the ends in tape to keep from scoring the lifter bores and just hit the retainer with a hammer. I know most machinists would probably cringe at that, but if done with a gentle hand it comes out fine. Thousands and thousands of heads and only 3 memorable call backs, all being the mechanics fault. One of the two was a mechanic who didnt realize the pushrods in GM 3.1/3.4s were different lengths for intake and exhaust. He tried claiming that we delivered the heads with bent valves, but I pulled his boss in to the bay and showed him the pushrods. Boss was not happy 😂. Another was a mitsubishi 4g64 head where the mechanic kept refusing to let the lifters pump up with oil after i had bench bled them. I both miss those times, and dont as well. Cool work, but I didnt make squat for pay.

      All same issues I've had lol. Shops called for me in the 3.1 days to have me come drill rocker studs holes that would strip out. Kept rockers with large studs from junk yard in box drill tap and on my way. I love doing this hobby. Very satisfying feels like your doing something worthwhile but by no means even owning the business do I make big money. This hobby is expensive to do.

    What do they put shims in the 1st place? Is that most likely a quick half-ass lazy-mechanic cover up fix?

    • @motorheadmachine8194
      @motorheadmachine8194 10 місяців тому

      I think they wanted to cheaply fix the cam lash, they should have bought the correct shims, not experienced enough to know what there changing, the buckets and shims spin around, if the shim is raised up it will be easier to come out of it holder. Then cam is destroyed, could lock up cam and break cam caps an completely destroy the head., but I think anyone who did this is thinking out of the box, good intentions but not really understanding fully what they are doing. Shows they have knowledge and understanding to work on engine.

    God I’ve just recently been getting into actually working on engines. I’ve always been able to do exhausts, anything with suspension, anything outside of the engine. But opening up an engine and taking it apart scares me lol. It just seems so intricate and I’m just scared of messing something up on accident. Currently doing a water pump and timing on one of my cars and i just wish i had this knowledge& confidence you probably have working on that stuff

      It just takes interest and time, I'm just giving back for all the videos I've watched and learned from, small local automotive machine shops are slowly disappearing, try go to a local shop and ask to start a part time job, this is a side gig for me, I love rebuilding heads, great job satisfaction for me. Need next generations to pick up the torch, all the life long professionals are dieing out, I'm 56 years old, how many more years do I have with average life expectancy of 75 years old, we use to repair are cars now we just trade them in for new ones, the 60's and 70's have some of the most beautiful cars built, new cars love to mimic them, look at the Challenger, working on 50 year old engine's and bring it back to life like the 1970 Roadrunner which the 440s are out of is exciting, a shop around u will love to teach u how. Just ask,

      Well... not true, I'm just demonstrating after I had either butted the stem or took a little more from the valve face. Most novice don't realize all the geometry behind bolting on a non-adjustable head, even resurfacing the head can tighten up the push rods, I took 6 thousand off each head, now there 6 thousand closer to the cam, now imagine take 20 thousand, now you can see it getting tighter. Things can start to becoming a problem, All heads that have NON-ADJUSTABLE rockers should be checked, if not you can get an open valve being to tight or a tick noise from loose rocker, list of cylinder heads is endless, LS whole line up including the new LT, all the Hemi heads are rocker on a shaft non-sdjustable, ford, Olds, extra... oh yea Pontiac. Lol, I just take a measurement when I take them apart and reset them to same measurement when I assemble. It's just attention to detail.
