I rode out to Wairere Boulder on my 411 Himalayan, I didn't take any cash so i couldn't get into the property to take any footage. I did go back a few days later in my Ute and bought my kids along. This will be the new style of videos I'll be making without the kids. Don't worry I'll still have random videos about things with bikes on this channel.
looking for a new adventure/off road bike

Hello folks, I'm looking for a new adventure/ off-road bike. Something that's lightweight as possible, has enough power when fully loaded up, doesn't ring itself apart at 100Kpm. What do you ride?

This will be the new way I'll most likely make videos on my new channel. My new channel will have a more mature riding content,No speeding and more how i like riding my bike - Chilled. I'll still have videos riding to the destination I visit but I'll show videos of me checking out the place. Have you seen how beautiful New Zealand is? I'll keep this channel open for just videos on the Intercept...

Me and couple of guys from Adv motorcycle rides far north meet up to ride Puketi forest. Some of the parts of the track were above my skill set. I think me and the bike did alright as this ride is the hardest type of riding i have done. I had a blast and I'm keen to do more of this type of riding. I did get the Himalayan stuck in the mud and needed all three of us to pull the bike free.

As a Land Surveyor in the foothills of Virginia this was how my workdays were. It involved tree identification, hiking and fresh air. Also the occasional snake, bees, mosquitoes; all parts of the fun.
A land surveyor? What an awesome job. I love looking at interesting land features.
@ivananda865ccinterceptor I am retired but still work on some small jobs occasionally, it keeps me a young 74-year old.
The "750INT" from Virginia says yes the DR650 is a viable choice, I have been looking at them. The big-bore kit takes it close to 790cc and has almost 50 ft/lbs of torque with well over 50 horsepower; dyno runs showed 54hp, it'd be a handful 😊
@frederickwoods5943 I don't think I'll need to modify the 650 as it has the Hp that I'm after. It will depend on how well it sits at a 100kpm for me.
It's a bit sad that the himi is so slow , to be fair it looks good when it's not moving. Suspension is pretty bad.
Yes I'm wanting some thing a bit more playful if you know what i mean😁
@ivananda865ccinterceptor DRZ 400 Suzuki is a proven bike., may not suit your needs , but it is a bloody good bike.
@@888Age888 I've been looking at a few Suzuki Dr650's on TradeMe. I'll look in to it more in the new year.
DR 650 is very good bike , loads of aftermarket parts also if you want to improve it. Get one second hand with the suspension upgraded.
also thinking of buying a new dual purpose, im leaning towards either a Suzuki Dr650 or DRZ400 the DR650 is around 165kg Mark Stock, and has double the horsepower of the himmy, there's reasons why they are so popular for world trips
Had a look on Trademe, Looks like a few good ones. I'm going to test ride both the 450 Himalayan and the 450 CF Moto first. I'll go from there.
That’s awesome man!
Cheers mate, I'm always looking to make better content.
@ Same. You’re doing well 👍
Your content is very good. You have plenty of confidence on camera. Something I have to work on.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor Thanks for saying that mate, but I don't think so. Ha, ha! Still working on the confidence myself :) I enjoy making videos, so hopefully getting better at it. Same for you dude, have fun and you'll get there. Keep experimenting. Excited for you with the drone stuff, lots of awesome scenery up your way.
Pretty cool having the drone follow you like that :)
I was having a play around with it. It's kinda hit or miss with the follow me mode.
@ Keen to see more when you get to it
Whats the top speed you recorded on this bike
I haven't done a top speed run on this bike, I'll save that for a race track, which I'm trying to sort out. Unsure when that will be.
@ looking forward for the speed run.
ive crashed my drone into a swing bridge drowned it in the river, sat in rice for a week only killed a battery 2 years later its still solid, Not sure about the insta 360 tripod being mounted on the handlebars like that i find mine annoying sometimes and that's just with the mount.
I was trying new ways to record videos, The drone does open up new options for video making and will be very useful. I still have a whole lot to learn about making videos. Considering I started this UA-cam channel about a year ago with no knowledge of how to make videos. I think I've done ok?
@ the drone is good, what I learnt is you can get mixed up in riding easily and not stop for that primo shot, I think your learning has progressed from the start to now the quality is way better, it’s the same as me at the start I had no idea has been learning process all the way through
what else did you did to the bike, in addition to the big bore kit?
Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/RCKmcHMel7U/v-deo.html
yo wtf was that 0-100 time,... speedometer was moving faster than the tachometer for a sec
Hello, the speed sensor at the time of recording was faulty. It has been fixed. Check this link out for a 0-100km ua-cam.com/video/nag43mygaB8/v-deo.html
Does doing the big bore affect your wof?
Hello, The bike is still has the 3 year wof so i haven't taken it in for a wof yet. I can't see why it wouldn't get a one. I'll find out next year i guess.
@ivananda865ccinterceptor so will you have to get an lvv cert or something? ... If the wof doesn't pass through?
@kub1075 it would only be an issue if they knew it was modified and with the silencers installed on the exhaust the bike sounds pretty tame. If they pick some thing up I'll just say it only has a cam, exhaust and a tune. To be fair I'm not worried about it.
Cool cool..... Thank you
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor oo. One more question.... Hw does the insurance work for customization
Nice riding, reminds me a lot of West Coast riding, was the only time i wish I had a 14t sprocket 1 smaller then stock, for the more technical stuff have to ride the clutch or hit it fast 😂
I had a lot of fun,but the bike is far too heavy and gutless to really go into the technical stuff. My mate has got him self a dirt bike lol.
I do like the Bonneville but I can’t understand why they are fitting tubed tyres in 2024. Surely we need tubeless in this day and age?
Being tube or tubeless doesn't bother me as a puncher is still a pain in the @ss. So far I hadn't had one. Touch wood.
I love living and riding in the far north, we are blessed.
NZ over all is a fantastic place if you're into riding motorcycles. We are very lucky to live in this beautiful country.
Hey bro, can you take us over the Mangamuka's when it opens. I'd love to take my Interceptor through there. The guys I ride with here on the Sunshine Coast would also enjoy the road.
@ridingwithhg I think it's opening up before Christmas, I haven't ridden though there yet.
It is always nice to hear and see videos of your 863cc Interceptor. I like the gear position indicator, even after 76,000 kilometers on my 750 Interceptor I occasionally confuse 5th and 6th gear causing me to try to upshift from 6th 😊
Yes i like my gear indicator as well. Its very helpful.
That sounds SO much better than before. Even though my Bonneville, Thruxton and 750INT all have aftermarket exhaust systems I never ride them without the baffles IN. The allure of the GSXr-750 that I owned for 9 years is/was the intake drone of the four throttle bodies. I get that noise on my 2020 INT750 (743cc big-bore INT650) now and it is available on-demand; so much nicer than an obnoxious, open loud exhaust.
Yes i agree, It is nice having the rumble of the bike without the loud exhaust.
Royal enfield's 850 or 750 should be great
Yes they should be, I hope they keep the 650's going as there are a great first bike for people wanting a little more power than a smaller cc rated bike.
We'll see
There were birds singing BEFORE you turned the bike on. Afterward, they were silent. The wildlife thanks you for the new exhausts.
The birds were singing as they saw me going to start my bike, After starting the bike they were silent in protest. Jokes aside it is nice having a some what quiet bike again.
We’re these mods expensive?
Yes, Worth more than the bike all up.
True mate. I have biked, boated and flown small aircraft and the biking is the least worrisome of all 3.
I bet it is.
I have a Meteor 350 and am currently debating adding an INT650 or a T120. The T120 seems a little heavy, do you find it heavier than the INT?
Not really, The Interceptor on paper is around 30- 40 Kgs lighter which i have notice on the road, But I think that's it due to I have had done alot more riding on my Interceptor than dads T120. The T120 is a better bike in every way but does cost almost twice as much than the Int650. The Int650 is a great bike but if your like me you'll be wanting more power sooner or later. Buy the T120 as its a fantastic bike as is no mods needed. Just be careful as a T120 is a big step in power compered to the 350 and a 650. Take both bike for a test ride and go from there.
Excellent adventure ride , you done well on the himi . 👍
Definitely a work out for me, Himi did great but I started to notice the limitations of the bike.
can you get handlebar risers with that angled frame ?
You can, I'm going to leave it stock as it's really comfortable as is.
Just got one so watching a bit on utube. Happy with mine straight away, i was after slow and gravel roads. Just sold a mt09 and dr650, one tooooo fast, one tooo big. Plodding along suits me now.
I now love mine, I still do wish for a bit more power for open road riding.
Mine feels so sketchy at anything over 80!
Lol indeed they are. They are a bit light for 100kmh. I still think they are a fantastic little bike, still can have heaps of fun with them.
Nice One Ivan
@ridingwithhg Thanks mate, I had a brilliant time.
Te Paki Stream 👍
Was that an Interceptor Ivan???
@ridingwithhg No, I took the Himalayan. I wouldn't wreck the Interceptor by riding it on the beach. Two people did ride there Interceptor's on the beach.
Yeah bro, I meant was that an Interceptor I saw? I thought I heard one tearing off down the beach so I actually went back over your video and saw a Interceptor. Cheers for that
Could not stand that noise. Awful, sorry.
Unfortunately, I had the recording level set to high. In person the bike sounds fantastic. I do have a pair of baffles coming for the mufflers to hopefully reduce the noise.
Awesome ride
Cheers man. Just a short video as I need to get more batteries for the camera.
Actually my mind/brain ask for RE, my heart is Bonneville. Interesting....
I've done a lot of modifications to my Interceptor to make it as good as it is now. If my Interceptor was standed, then i would take the Bonneville over it. No decision would be needed.
Best colour scheme...............
@lauriebloggs8391 Triumph knows how to make a good looking bike.
Awesome to meet you, great vid
Cheers mate, it was a tone of fun. I hope to catch up with you guys.
Hmmmm , Plan "A" Keep the T120 for distance and two up work , Sell the Himi` , Turn the Interceptor into a scrambler. OR Plan "B" Keep the T120 , Sell Himi`, Keep Interceptor for spares , buy the new 650 Bear and transplant motor from Interceptor. And regardless of plan , Take the wife out for dinner somewhere nice. 👍😂
Hahaha, be easier to keep all three bikes 🤣
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor Ok , Plan "C" Keep T120 sell Interceptor and Himi` and replace with CF Moto 450 MT and wife can buy you dinner. 😂😁
@LifetimeBiker Hahaha I saw a really nice Triumph Tiger 800 or 900 on the weekend and looking at my local sales, they seem priced not too bad.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor Yup , The Tigers are a nice bit of kit although can get heavy after picking up a few times.
Nice video, but I have a hard time understanding you with your accent.
Yes, the Kiwi accent fantastic isn't it? I do need to work on my presentation. UA-cam is a new thing for me. Thanks for the comment.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor All good - enjoyed the video
What year is the 120 ? Is it the newer higher power version ?
Hello, it's a 2017 model. I'm unsure about the newer ones having more power. I believe this model has around 80hp but I could be wrong.
@ That’s great, thanks. I’ve now been told it was only the Thruxton 1200 that got the power increase in 2019.. Good riding 👍😃
Just bought the same exact bike yesterday the seat was changed out I’ll be looking to replace it with something more comfortable. In the spring shortly mufflers then maybe an X pipe . She is so easy to ride what a pleasure
Definitely the Bonneville is a much nicer bike to ride than a stock Interceptor. But you do pay for it. I think both bikes are fantastic for the market they are made for.
Cool ride man
@@mfpun-nz Cheers mate, I had a blast.
looks like a good time, hope ya washed your bike well.
I had a blast, Shame you couldn't make it. Yes water blasted it for about 10 minutes. I've been invited to i think its Moawhango? Next march.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptoralso congrats on hitting 400 subs, slowly building for sure
@Remotonz Cheers Andrew, I should be at Mangaweka next March, are you going?
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor First i have heard of it. It depends on the dates but I will probably attend.
@Remotonz I think it will be a similar thing to the Way up North rally with a limited number of people who can go.
I've got a 2022 T-100 and a RE Classic 350. The T100 gained a lot of character with a few mods. The biggest thing is the little BC shorty mufflers. Deeper more soulful exhaust note. Much easier access for chain cleaning and adjusting and for rear wheel removal. A new seat helped a lot. Also new 50/50 tires. The power and torque of the T100 is plenty for me. I love the bike. It is refined, powerful, and very smooth. I ride it at civilized speeds on paved and unpaved country roads here in rural Vermont. The Classic 350 is just an inexpensive little bike to putt around on. Tons of character. Bup bup bup. Great little bike. I enjoy it a great deal. The two bikes scratch different itches. I'm lucky to have both.
Hello, Thanks for the comment. It's good to hear that your mods have made the T100 more character full, exactly what I wanted to hear. Cheers
Just the best roads ay
Yes bro, I'm thinking about doing a run down to Auckland just to ride Scenic Drive and Piha then Huia Dam.
Either way you go will be happy, the triumphs are nice and i was almost tempted into a speed twin, but with your interceptor not going to get back near what you put in it, hard to value something like that, for me the interceptor does enough to keep me happy for now id rather put character infront of anything else, but as you say the south island the bonny would do better long open roads.
Yes, both bikes are fantastic, that's the problem. If the Interceptor was standed the T120 would be an easy win for sure. The other problem with the Triumphs is the "Triumph tax" when it comes to modified parts for them. I think it would be easier to convince the wife why I need three bikes than choose between the two..LOL
@ big conundrum, as for me a good community is also what i like again both bikes have that, and you ain’t wrong with triumph motorcycle parts seems like an extra 70 percent added on because it’s for a triumph, although I wonder also how hard it would be to sell one vs the other, easier to recoup costs on a stock bike vs one that has a lot of money in, I mean you can buy a stock interceptor now between 6 - 7 grand there was one for 8 that had yss suspension, don’t know if that plays into it, some people are also put off by modified engines but hard to say what its value would be in the market today.
Also, I reckon you’ve taken your interceptor as far as it should go on that platform. Upgraded because it needed it. The T120 is a better platform and the mods you’re talking about are all regular and make it your own.
@greatkingrat That's a good point. Unfortunately for me, I'm always pushing to make it better. But you're right having displacement is easier to make HP with less stress on the engine.
I sold my Interceptor for a T100. I lost faith with the interceptor after the gearbox failure (repaired under warranty, should have been a recall). That and quality issues like the engine casing pitting etc. So much happier with the T100
@greatkingrat I haven't had any issues with my Interceptor or my Himalayan, definitely the Triumphs are a higher quality bike than Royal Enfields but they cost twice as much. For me Royal Enfield is a great platform to learn how to ride a bike.
You are correct that the Triumphs don't have the character. I have a Speed Twin 1200, Bonneville and Thruxton (2012's) and one of the only 750cc Interceptors in the U.S. both it and the Speed Twin are 2020 models. The Interceptor gets 99-percent of the use, the Triumphs are for sale.
The Triumph having less character than the Interceptor isn't a deal breaker for me. I just don't know which bike is the one I should keep. They are both fantastic bikes to ride, look great, and sound great. But having two bikes that are similar in looks and performance doesn't make financial sense. Getting rid of the Himalayan isn't an option at this stage.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor Well, the Himalayan will do the shorter journeys, so keep the T120 for the faster longer ones ? Kinda best of both worlds ?
@douglasalexander4348 Funny enough the Himalayan is great for long distance riding. It does lack power and that's its downside, but it's still a great platform. Once I do minor upgrades on the Triumph I think I'll be more than happy with it as it's the most logical step for my motor cycle path.
Cool bike man. Sounds pretty good too.
Cheers mate, I've been telling the old man to get a decent exhaust for it. It's something I'll do now. I'm just trying to get one that isn't too loud.
Nice bike , my best mate has the Scrambler XE with aftermarket pipes , same engine and it sounds amazing . He takes it off-road as well as long distance road trips . It's a great jack of all trades .
Yes,Triumph does make a nice-looking bike. I'm unsure on what I'll do it this stage with the bikes. I could keep three bikes, but that doesn't make financial sense, especially with the rego's going up.
@@ivananda865ccinterceptor Yeah I agree , no way I could afford 3 motorcycle regos, I'm thinking of looking around for a second hand drz400 as a project bike to do up a bit and using it for hooning around gravel roads and off road , I will just keep rego on hold . With all these price increases I bet there are going to be many motorcycles with rego on hold around NZ. I will be keeping my T7 for as long as I am still riding , I have had suspension resprung and revaulved to suit my weight and absolutely love riding it .
Yes, I agree. I was thinking about getting a vintage Japanese bike with a decent CC rating to get cheap rego. But that would be a costly thing to do.
Nice ride , but Too Loud Dude , put a little back pressure on that beauty...
Hi, thanks for the comment, I'm in the process of getting silencers for the mufflers now. I meant to get them a while ago.
I fitted a TEC cam to mine. It also has a freer flowing exhaust and air intake. I am guessing this adds about 5bhp. It has made the bike noticeably livelier and I fitted a 16t sprocket which it pulls easily. So now it will cruise at 70 on the motorway with some in hand for overtaking. I would imagine 17t is too much for a standard bike.
I've been looking at the cam upgrade for my bike. Yes, the 17 front sprocket is a little high. On the open road (100kmh), I have no problems with keeping the bike at 100kmh even going up hills. I do have to work the engine and gearbox more. I'm not too worried about it not enough to change back to the 15 tooth.
Good 'review' Ivan 👍👍
Hello, cheers. I have to work on my self while talking on camera.
