“Merit.” Yeah right. White men just want to maintain their power and shut up anyone who they think is getting in their way. What they don’t realize is they’ll be 10x more successful if they listen to perspectives that are different than theirs.

God she was so annoying in this show. Anybody who had a different opinion about anything she would get upset and start drama constantly telling others “I know best I produced 17 movies” Not surprised she got black listed I wouldn’t want to work with someone so small minded and full of ego. Can’t believe people are hating on Matt here. Go watch the show before you make judgements.

The US Supreme Court has finally stomped this shitty issue and purged affirmative action, the very thing this video is all about. We can't allow hires based on racism. Quotas are racists. Forcing diversity without merit is racism. Talent, grades and merit must be rewarded, not the skin colour of a human being. Blacks have used this racist excuse for too long; it's time to bring back democracy and equality.

People are dumb in the comments. This was a clip from Project Greenlight. A flimmaking competition. They were discussing who should be the winners to direct the film. Effie wanted the directors who were of color to direct solely based on their color. Matt wanted whoever made the best film. Effie was a moron on this show.

The filmmaker they chose ended up throwing away the script and filming his own, which was bereft of diversity. This ensure that diversity was not considered in the film or the show. A fact that Damon never rectified. It seems like Project Greenlight: A New Generation is a response to that.

The thing he doesn’t take u def consideration was speaking about Merritt is that a lot of white people have had advantages that people of color have not had. There’s a thing called environmental racism that holds back a lot of people of color. It’s not that white producers just happen to be better, there is a reason . White peoples are giving opportunities in order to build a résumé that is suitable. It’s important to have people of color in those spaces in order for them to get the opportunity to have the proper background in order to be considered elite in filmmaking. In addition to that she made a wonderful point that if your film crew is not diverse, they will not realize some of the detrimental and harmful storylines. They are putting out there.

That’s a pretty damn scathing perspective.. I truly truly don’t think Matt Damon had the social intelligence to consider that the outcome of what he was shooting for would end up being a majority white or upper class abundance of directors.. I think he simply thought that the competition has standards and that if the black director showed incredible competency and marks, they would obviously be picked.. as there’s nothing in Damon’s history that would show that he is racist. I can understand why you thought that.. I’m sure in a country where it feels at any corner, someone could have racist intent.. that must be exhausting. Also it’s simply not correct. You have so many black moderates and republicans who seem to see that it isn’t about race on the right except for the extreme right… it’s about individualism and personal responsibility above all else

I think it is important to simply consider a different perspective on the producer side. Simply put, someone who does not check the box of a highly educated and westernized straight-white-male who has never been below middle class. They always dominate creative projects, especially in Hollywood. Brown just wants to throw in more diverse people behind the camera which is still a struggle to this day. (Usually below 20% of the industry is diverse behind the camera, my thoughts).
