Cooking in Giant Bamboo Culms! Fresh Caught Mahi-Mahi Feast (Farm to Table)
Переглядів 3642 роки тому
This video demonstrates the process of cooking food in the nodes of this giant bamboo species (Dendrocalamus Giganteus). This species has a thick wall, and when the culm is still green and full of moisture, it can be set on hot coals and heated to high temperatures without burning all the way through. We utilized these qualities to create cooking pots, as I have learned before at other farms. T...

We have plenty in the philippines too with different varieties
Beautiful work! We've been looking into Guanacaste and I'm excited to find your video 🧡
Thanks! Feel free to reach out if you ever have questions 🙂
I wonder how these turned out…turmeric makes beautiful color but it fades even with mordant(at least in my experience) 😢 I am curious about the achiote! That color combo is insane 🤯
Really nice
nice 🥰🥰🥰
20:35 you can take all the leftover fruit from making vinegar or juice or jelly‘s jams take the leftover fruit mash it up real good spread it across some thing and then put it over the fire and eventually it’ll dry out until like a freeze dried like material you just break it up put it into a jar and eat it like you would eat a granola bar can take several different fruits and vegetables and do this and then make a trail mix to have while you’re out working on the farm
Great video man, always happy to see ur updates :)
Those are some proper swales, nice!
Thanks!
Your videos are always awesome. Thanks and pura vida
Thanks!
It's very nice to see farm examples on the dry northwest of Costa Rica. I'm starting a similar farm in Esparza, Puntarenas... Looking forward to find a banana that survives the strong trade winds of the dry season. Might message you to get info about the one you got. Keep with the videos :) Pura vida!
What do you do after the blending? How do you take it? Any other way if one cannot take alcohol?
After blending it sits and the herb macerates in the alcohol before being strained. Once its strained it can be consumed as a tincture. Other than alcohol, you can use vegetable glycerin to make tinctures too
You can still use even if you cannot take alcohol. Just put the tincture drops in a hot drink (tea/coffee... ) and the alcohol will evaporate, but you will still get the benefits of the milky oats. You can make a tincture with glycerin, but it will not be as potent as it does not extract as well as the alcohol and the shelf life is very short. alcohol tinctures have a shelf life of 10+ years if stored properly! You only need a few drops to get the benefits, not drink a glass.
Do you have slugs or similar pests
Not really, the most damaging insects we get are leaf cutter ants.
I wonder what you guys got up to after you said “cut”? 🤣🤣🤣👍 Thanks for the video
Haha! Love your channel man, keep it up
Just bought a 1 gallon from Lowe's.
Just a side note. Where do you get your organic alcohol from? I am not liking using the ones from the liquor store any longer
I'm not sure where my friend in this video sourced this particular batch of alcohol, sorry! I know she does try to source it locally/homemade often wherever she is at.
Yep. Love the way you explain. Good teacher. Blessings. Keep it up. Following along sister.
What is planted in the middle of the banana circle?
Actually nothing was planted there, but seeds from our food scraps have sprouted up! There are a few mangos and papayas as well as an avocado growing in there.
Your jackseeds are still waiting for you❤❤
I've just stumbled across your channel and love what I see so far! I do have a question though. Are you just so remote that you don't have to worry about theft or vandalism while you're gone for a season? It seems like there are few places left in the US where that would still be possible, unfortunately.
Seems like you have very little faith in community
@@Corvidnest I don’t know anything about the community. Hence the question. 🤷♀️
I mean community as a concept, the network of people around you helping each other out, sharing resources, knowledge ect. If you build community as we are apt to do in permaculture, you don't need to worry so much about unwelcomed visitors.
@@Corvidnestand I mean that there are many places in the world where people build this sort of life, but if they left for any meaningful time, someone in “the community” would steal or destroy his property. My question isn’t an attack. It’s a simple question which may have many answers.
Yes sometimes that happens, he is in costar rica, but maybe neighbors help each other, but still some times people do bad things, I live in North Carolina, thinking to move to El Salvador, I just finished building my house and experienced that during construction lost materials and tools
Looks very nice my buddy!!
What variety of oregano is it that’s growing?
Mexican Oregano (Lippia Graveolens)
Nice work! I bet your dad didn't' do squat, just ran around on the beach! hahaha
Not too far off there! You & Nicolas will have to come down and hang out at the beach with him soon too
Absolutely! @@FarmedandForaged

Here in PR, we a water apple variety called Pumarosa that has been used for wine making since the conquest. If you d.m. your address, i will mail you a leather belt! Keep up the good work
Keep making videos. I look up permaculture videos all the time and never ran across the channel. It will take off eventually just keep the content creation up. Thanks for the videos
Thanks! Appreciate the support. Will do
Add my name to the list! I would love to grow those. I live in Florida and I will definitely buy some if you can ship here. BTW, I love Costa Rica, some friends and I went down there on a surfing trip once. Please get up with me and let me know, thanks, Thomas.
Banana circles look good. Well thought out.
Thanks!
Keine Ahnung Keine Tiere keine Holzkohle Unfassbar dass niemand in Costa Rica richtig gute Arbeit macht
Unfortunate your negativity. We are doing our best with the limited time/resources we have. There are definitely many people I know in CR “doing it right”.. charcoal, animals & much more. You shouldn’t be so quick to judge.
Topping trees in that manner leads to a structurally unsound tree in the future. You're creating a weak spot where those trees are going to branch at that cut you made.
Good to know. That tree got some sort of fungal wilt on the upper leaves that seemed to be spreading downwards so I topped it. Luckily Achiote is a really voracious tree here and it has bounced back very well
gracias
Should whitewash it then paint a primitive geometric design on it in black.
Great job!
As I don’t know much about this fruit
I really wanted to try this so much I couldn’t find it was hard to find this I got it online I paid $64 for it just for one now I got it I seen it all over online so I really wanted to try it so I got it online it’s been one week it’s looking ok it open it self at the top now I’m really scared to eat it I want to give it a go but I’m really scared of so I’m thinking to eat this with my sister but I’m still scared
Wow thats really expensive! Haha, this fruit is one that goes pretty much unharvested in places that it grows. I wouldn't be too scared to eat it as long as its scales are starting to come off on their own. Where do you live?
great tour! we have similar plants here in Ecuador Fruit Haven Ecovillage :)
Cool! We found Chanterelles and Morels (Morchella Herediana) in the mountains in Acosta (Central valle) between 5900ft - 6200ft (1800m - 1900m).
Wow! Never would've imagined finding Morels in CR either!
Ah! I live in Guanacaste and am stoked to have found your page. I so badly wanted more yt videos on permaculture here in Guana. Stoked to learn more from your channel
Amazing! Glad to hear that
That's amazing.
Very cool! We doing similar things here in Hawai’i. 🤙
Lovely whats the size of your house?
Thanks, the inside is just 5x5 meters and 2x5 porch in the front, and the extension of the side is about 3x5 meters and will be where our kitchen is
@FarmedandForaged great a cozy home in a lush food forest. That's what I want too
