Good to know.
So underrated
Wow, that frametime on opensuse tho. Is it that stutery irl?
Recording yes. Encoder limitations I guess - GCN 4.0 encoders aren't exactly out there but they do the job rather than depending completely on CPU. Gameplay no.
i have intel core i5 8250u laptop with 12 gb ram and 512gb nvme ssd, can i run genshin impact smoother in linux than windows?
depends on the discrete graphics card the laptop has. check what it is using first. what i'm sure is that, from a test i've done some time ago, there's not much of a difference. if it's an NVIDIA, you might need to look up on how to get it working. AMD and Intel graphics cards have the privilege of not needing extra driver software to be installed compared to NVIDIA. either way, do perform a check on your laptop's full specs.

Is it possible to get ban if i use linux??
No. No known possibility that I know of so far.
Your RX 580 is way too hot and is thermal throttling. You should either get a chassis with better airflow, or you should neatly replace the thermal paste. If you continue playing like this, your PC will hardlock every now and then.
Thank you for the comment. I did notice this, and have since did the thermal paste reapplied and have some new casing fans installed to help with the airflow. I only shaved about 4 or 5 degrees down though, but it wasn't as bad as this. Also to note that I live in a tropical country with no access to air conditioning, and no option to move anywhere else with it either. That should be important to know.
@@t.hitoshi awesome stuff, no worries I live in a hot country as well with no air conditioning in my room. I also struggle with temperatures with my RX 480, but I am glad to have found stable conditions (77C° under load in summer), by buying a Cooler Master MB 511 ARGB chassis and also adding an extra CPU liquid cooler with the radiator and extractor fan on the top which helps a lot. With post 2018 Radeon Drivers on Polaris GPUs, it's difficult to keep these badboys stable.
Will it run on linux mint. I do have a mobile running this but it's laggy. Will i be getting ban in the future? Chances of getting ban?
Mobile as in mobile phone? Be it on Linux Mint or any other distro, it depends on your hardware. Because DXVK is basically a translation layer for DirectX calls some overhead is to be expected on your GPU therefore expect performance hits on that. Linux Mint tends to be based on latest Ubuntu versions as far as i recall therefore they may not have the latest kernel and drivers necessary for more bleeding edge hardware (e.g. running RDNA3 AMD GPUs), but if you know your way around software repositories you can work with that. Regarding bans... That's a long story to unravel, but the gist of it is that I have been streaming the game almost exclusively on my linux system. I have never been banned since I started playing in Linux from Genshin v3.8 onwards. So best to say chances are nil just for playing on linux. We're on our own mostly, though.
Can it play on windowed mode when running on native wayland?
AFAIK yes. Although honestly the full screen I am playing with here isn't a true full screen in any regard - it's basically a borderless 1980x1080 window in terms of appearance.
@@t.hitoshi Thank you!
Nice video ❤ Btw about the cursor problem you said in video description, do you get to see that in game or during streaming? If you get to see that in game, does it affect the gameplay or its just a visual bug? And how rarely does this bug occur?
You can see that in-game, and considering the GPU recorder I used, my entire desktop was in full view. It affects how the cursor moves in-game and there can be moments where it gets stuck and makes your camera move like crazy. Fortunately you can open the Paimon menu to try and correct the cursor behavior. It occurs every time.
It would be interesting to see how DXVK compares to DX11 in cpu-bottleneck scenarious: spinning camera in sumeru or fontain city, where are a lot of geometry to process. Might turn resolution down tho, so gfx could take a break.
I'm not too sure on how to do this though. Sumeru City gives me the impression that it has more load on the GPU than Fontaine, although I'm not exactly sure on this myself.
What is your speak?
Speak?? Not sure what you mean with that.

Sorry, I'm not the kind to keep using resin as long as they show a value above zero. By this point of the video, I have either done my dailies or was waiting for the next daily reset.
Any performance difference?
Not that obvious on defaults since the game runs on 60fps default which Wine on Wayland mode can do without much of a problem. But take off the FPS limit and I'm observing a cut in about 6~10 fps. I have no testing platform for a full verification on how much performance differs compared to Wine running via Xwayland however.
As of RX 580 user with Linux recent AMDGPU drivers - It only depends on the CPU: Wine Does a CPU Overhead And The older gen the CPU - The Bigger it will be /( With Ryzen 5 5500 It is Sometimes even better than Shitndows gameplay, while With heck old i7 870 The Performance is cut for like 30%/(( So it really works Nicely With the Newer Hardware out there/(

Hey I am curious, is it actually safe to play the game under Linux at the moment? I am kind of afraid to do so, because I've seen Honkai players being banned for playing on Linux. What are your experiences with doing so?
Copy pasting my content on another video: That is a very grossly oversimplified misunderstanding and misses the actual account of what happened. The bans you're referring to would be a mass banwave that happened in Honkai Star Rail back in 1.0~1.1. What happened was there's a massive banwave that affected not just Linux users but a good portion of the playerbase as well. Since there were quite a number of reports from players playing it on Linux, there was a suspicion that the bans happened *because* of playing in Linux and not because of Hoyoverse's mistake. There are Genshin players who have been playing in Linux since Genshin's Day 1 and has not been banned ever since, and in a few patches before Fontaine was released, players have been reporting they are able to get the game to work without any tinkering, i.e. it launches the same way you'd expect on Windows. Useful notes on the "ban on Linux because Linux?" situation: www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/17t4qev/genshin_impact_on_linux/k8xt4vw/ www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1723w3g/comment/k40bgix/?context=3 I frequently stream Genshin these days as means to showcase the "Yeah I'm totally running it on a Not-Windows Not-Mac OS" part. Granted I would love a new GPU to further play and stream the game better, but my hardware as it is right now does quite enough for me. Access to the AV1 hardware encoder on an RX 7000 series card would be ideal, but as I am right now I cannot afford any new hardware.
@@t.hitoshi Thank you for the clarification. I am going to be installing this shit on Linux, I can't be bothered to constantly restart xD.
Recording monitor in gpu screen recorder should now be possible on opensuse on x11 and wayland, if you update to the latest version
On the flatpak? I think I had it updated just today. Was indeed able to use it on Wayland. Previously I could only do a window capture on X11. Would like the window capture feature to come to Wayland too, though. And possibly the ability to only capture sound from a running app, e.g. a game.
@@t.hitoshi Yeah. Also window capture isn't really possible on wayland (it could be possible on some wayland compositors but then other things would break). It's a wayland limitation that will likely never get fixed. If you want to do what you want on your computer you have to use x11. To capture audio only from one application its better to use software such as qpwgraph. Just start recording then in qpwgraph you can select which applications gpu screen recorder gets its audio from. This method works for all applications (assuming your system uses pipewire). In qpwgraph gpu screen recorder starts with "gsr".
@notuxnobux i see. Just curious: Is implementing pipewire for window capture on Wayland not possible with the recorder?
@@t.hitoshi that's what i meant yes. If desktop portal is used (+ pipewire) then window capture is possible in some wayland compositors, but then instant replay on system startup isn't possible and it's also broken on nvidia in some cases and it can cause wayland compositors to crash. It also requires more code than entire gpu screen recorder has right now.
Hello thanks for your test Can you please tell me how to play the game on linux i have ubuntu 22.4 ? The game only for winodws , PS4 , PS4 , Andriod and IOS i am kinda new in linux so how can i install and play it on linux please ?

Yeah that's close enough to be margin of error now :D
Not that I want to be a gigantic pedant (I am), but the water test environment feels too different between Windows and Linux. The previous test video's water section was MUCH closer in terms of render.
Yesterday I figured out why, somewhat: The Linux session was recorded via OBS, which gave about a 10fps penalty on performance on my end - I don't get why it works like that, it just does, the GPU screen recorder page has an explanation but i only get the basic idea of why it would be bad to use OBS if you need to run a recording without any framerate loss to the game. Windows session was using AMD's built in recording/streaming tools from the drivers. I switched to using GPU Screen Recorder (in X11, Wayland only has full screen capture which didn't work for me) and my first impression found that the framerates were actually much closer than what I thought, if not outright the same. I think this does warrant a retest on the same recording conditions, I'll probably try to do that ASAP. And if you're talking about the in-game environment though, perhaps I should change the time of day in-game so that both run at the same time in-game.
@@t.hitoshi yep, I was talking about in-game environment. As for GPU screen recording: I've been using obs-vkcapture for the longest time and it's relatively reliable, with generally little to no frame tax.
@@_cybik on my hardware there's a noticeable 10fps drop if you use a framerate unlocker and then run recording via OBS, otherwise both systems run fine at 60fps with next to no difference. For the record I also run obs-vkcapture on OBS, I never used the traditional screen/window capture plugins be it PipeWire or XSHM for the games.
@@t.hitoshi huh. I didn't know vkcap actually introduced delays. Now I know.
@@_cybik more of an OBS general issue i reckon. The page for the GPU Screen Recorder had an explanation for this: git.dec05eba.com/gpu-screen-recorder/about/
How'd you get it runing on Linux? I'm thinking of switching to Mint cause I'm having some issues with Windows. I've looked on the internet and it seems that AAGL might get my account banned, and idk how to setup the game to run directly lol
All AAGL does given the current state of the game itself is no different than me running it, as my process is more or less akin to setting everything up manually and tweaking my installation and environment variables by hand. AAGL just does away with whatever I'm doing. As of versions 3.6+, the game has been reported to run out of the box with no "can I get banned for this?" workarounds - the previous workarounds being the need to circumvent the anti-cheat, which was the major part of the problem on getting the game to work on Linux. What makes this a grey matter is that there is no confirmation on the Genshin devs' side on whether such an occurence is intentional or not, but from how I see it, I don't see any reason why one could be banned *simply* for being able running the game on an operating system not officially supported at all. What that means is that you can just download and install the game under a given wine prefix - or just put it anywhere on the system if you want, but you'll want to make sure you have a workable Wine prefix for Wine to be able to run the game properly.
Hi i have a question which linux distro would you recommend for genshin?
Depends on how familiar you are with Linux and how far you are willing to expend to have one that works and suits your every need. Some go with Arch linux for total freedom in determining how you set up your machine while having the latest software packages at all times - failing that, Endeavour OS if you just want to skip the hassle of its infamous 'install it by hand yourself' philosophy (note, there's archinstall but I am not that well informed on how reliable it is if you heed to be specific on how you install and configure your machine); some go for specialised distros that has everything pre-configured for you to start gaming like Nobara, but if you'd prefer a safer choice and can choose to trim down and streamline parts of the system to suit your needs better, a decently updated common distro like the Ubuntu family (despite their own issues especially regarding Snaps) and Fedora are always an option. On my end I chose to go with OpenSUSE Tumbleweed after years on end with the Ubuntu family, moved from Kubuntu 22.04 LTS for it in the middle of this year. Now I feel just at home except with a more updated system thanks to its rolling release cycle. The key is to understand the distro choices you have at hand before working on it.
@@t.hitoshi yeah I am familiar with Linux.I used Nobara Linux kde before and there is a custom gnome version of it both I tried but I didn't like that the os is still on Fedora 38
@@Mohammed_x Sounds like you would probably be better off moving on to Fedora 39 and subsequent versions of it, and do the work needed to get it performing just as good as Nobara on your end. Yesterday I also configured an older PC for Genshin for testing its current hardware layout, and ended up deciding with Kubuntu 23.10 on it. The intention was to at least keep it updated on a semi-rolling basis to ensure the latest software are running on it, but without being too over the edge compromising stability (i.e. packages or new configurations that break the present one), so I was also putting in some work to trim it as required, as the intention for the machine was to have it be available for family use as well as being decently up-to-date with the most minimal configuration I can afford time and bandwidth for.
@@t.hitoshi oh i see....yesterday i tried opensuse gnome and the experience was good but the problem with it is that the laptop sound did not work so now I am trying endeavoros gnome
@@Mohammed_x sound problem is another matter entirely, it depends on your hardware and opensuse's configuration, but I don't really know much on how that affects you so I cannot really give any advice on how to fix it.

Rx 580 8gb Ordinary type with rx 580 8gb 2048sp Which one is stronger?
The non-2048SP one should be the better card when benchmarked against each other. The 2048SP is originally a China-only SKU and on paper would be actually closer to the RX 570 - or rather, *should* just be addressed as such. I got mine from a local private reseller who somehow has a stock of said graphics cards. As it is, it's a card that's being held back by limitations on its hardware - the SP in the name refers to the stream processors count the card has (2048) to differentiate with the actual RX 580 (which has 2403).
I have the same gpu and i really want to switch to linux and leave windows forever but i wasn't sure that the performance would be good but because of your video i know now thanks a lot
If you care about raw performance Windows has the edge of about 10fps when there is no framerate limiter, but outside enthusiasts who bother to have a framerate unlocker (game locks to 60fps max by default) the experience isn't any different IMO. You might need to look up how to get the game up on your Linux setup, though. The simplest way would be to install 'an anime game launcher' on the system. Look it up.
@@t.hitoshi I previously used it on Nobara Linux with a Dell T3500, and it was laggy. However, that was before 1 year. I've since built a new PC with the same GPU, and I believe it should work well now.
@@t.hitoshi and I really don't care about unlocking the fps because I have a 1080p 60hz monitor
The FPS unlocking was done for the express purpose of testing and comparing framerates. Normally I don't even bother. As this test shows Linux framerates are pretty much playable for the game even if it has about 10fps disadvantage over Windows on average. Have fun with the new build! It's nice to explore how this cheap card performs. I sadly don't have enough games to test the card for fun though, but for what I want it to run, it does the job really well. I had to service the card myself a few times though. First was caused by a dead fan, luckily Sapphire made the fans on the card replaceable and I was able to get a pair of new ones really quick from my local suppliers. Then repasting the GPU, and the next was to actually have some decent airflow in my case by having extra casing fans courtesy of a friend who gifted me their used AIO at no cost. I think my desktop at its current state is about the best I have built yet so far. Would be nice to get my hands on a 6700 XT, but I'll keep running what i have for now until I can afford buying parts again.
Interesting to see: CPU usage in Linux is notably lower.
I have since updated this test with a newer one which also shows FPS differences with an unlocked frame rate, and my CPU also running at its intended performance level (this has Intel Turboboost disabled due to the stock cooler not being able to take it, I have been given a new cooler to work with since).
