    Cool video bao! I liked the reflection stuff a lot actually, good to see what's in that noggin of yours. I think you've definitely developed your slab climbing a bunch, which was cool to see. 7 months ago I could barely get you on a slab. I don't think your physical preparation was lacking, I'm fairly certain you're in the best shape you've ever been. You just seem more rushed and anxious when your climbing in comp. I wonder if you would benefit from sports psychology/ mindset work. Also that green boulder looked impossible.

    How do you find the science friction rubber on the sharks compares to the vibram grip 2 on the solution comp and instruct women’s/how do they perform on slabby smearing volumes? I have drone 2.0 and I do find it to be quite a bit less sticky but I wonder if that’s is just because of how stiff the drones are.

    • @bao.ng04

      They’re sticker than the rubber on the instincts, i think it’s just cos their sole is softer than the drones cos there’s low profile volumes where I could stand no hands w the sharks but trying my friends drones I couldn’t

    Idk about the heel on this shoe. I use it is a gym burner, I sized down (0.5) and had to engage pretty hard on a heel hook & the shoe was coming off with the strap completely tightened. I feel like the heel stretched way too much

    • @bao.ng04
      @bao.ng04 5 місяців тому

      I think u didn’t downsize it enough, bc I used to have this problem with my redline straps, where I’d be heeling too hard n the back half would come off my heel. Consequently I downsized another 0.5 of a size and stopped having the issue. I also have flat foot syndrome so my feet are a bit more malleable so I downsized from a converse 8 to a madrock 6.5 to get an incredible fit. But going just 0.5 definitely could lead to some looseness.

    Sorry but Solution and Instinct is a completely different category compared to anything MadRock has to offer. The only advantage is the cheat heel, which doesn’t really make you better at heel hooks it just lowers the difficulty for you, which I find quite immoral.

    • @bao.ng04
      @bao.ng04 5 місяців тому

      Interesting, yeah I’d love to hear what category u think the solutions n instincts are in and why they differ from madrock’s portfolio. But for the heel argument, ur fussy abt semantics, like obv no shoe is going to make ur anything better, but I was already extremely good with my heel hooks with my instincts, often beating my V12-13 climber friends by exploiting my heel hooking abilities. But the sharks heel allows my maximum heel potential to be so much greater hence my positive opinion

    I'm looking for my first pair of climbing shoes and I've been recommended the tarantulas countless times but these look sick honestly still don't know much about any of these shoes but I'm just tryna stop renting honestly 😂😂 would these do me well for a one and done climbing shoe? how do I even size these shoes what are they supposed to fit like??

    • @bao.ng04
      @bao.ng04 5 місяців тому

      Yeah the tarantulas are like the canon event shoe for every climber, but I recommend going to a store or gym where u could actually try them on and ask someone more knowledgeable. But these could be ur everything shoe, but you’ll know what u need the more experience u get, no way around it sadly

    • @Darkolas
      @Darkolas 5 місяців тому

      The main reasons people are recommending tarantulas (and black diamond momentum) for beginners are: 1. COMFORT, 2. low price, 3. good edging performance. The problem with starting with more advanced shoes is the shapes will be really painful for a beginner, and they won't even be enjoying the benefits of the shape on the basic climbing they will be doing. Take, for instance, downturn - useful for really hooking into small footholds on an overhang or roof. Super painful and unnecessary for a beginner who won't be forced to deal with those movements until around v4 or 5. Looks like these shark 3.0s have a very beginner-friendly shape PLUS a toe patch, which is a huge plus over the tarantulas and momentums. But then we get to price, and they cost almost double. This is even more significant considering a beginner will absolutely burn through their first pair of shoes due to poor smearing or poor toe rotation techniques. Finally, as shown by OP in the video, the shark 3.0's have kind of a stubby toe tip in lieu of a hooked tip. This will hinder edging performance.

    • @G4Master96
      @G4Master96 5 місяців тому

      @@Darkolas very interesting insight although to be fair some new tarantulas are like 100 bucks give or take and these sharks show 130 as of whenever I'm writing this but with that being said I feel you on the not being able to use the shoe to it's fullest potential simply because I'm not even climbing that hard yet. On the comfort end I couldn't say for sure cause I've never even had a downturned shoe on my feet before but nonetheless I'll be sure to take these things into consideration when I finally get time to actually go try on some shoes

      Damn I had this info in my notes but I completely forgot to read it. It’s a little more bulbous than the drones but not has round as the shark 2.0’s. The fit is similar to the drones but there’re bigger sizing cutouts on the heel so they could expand if you do have a bigger heel

      @@bao.ng04 interesting! I have a narrow heel… so it shouldn‘t be that big of a difference compared to 2.0 or sharks right?

      Yeah when I try my friends drone 2.0 in the same size i couldn’t tell a difference, possibly it’s a bit more comfy on the sharks 3.0
