There are some boulder I could get proper videos of because of how crowed things were, but trust me I climbed ev...
Best Climbing Shoes Money Can Buy | Madrock shark 3.0 review

The new Madrock Shark 3.0 brings all the best Madrock has to offer into 1 singular package, creating the best shoes I've used to date. I've tried the La Sportiva Solutions, Theories, and I've tried the Scarpa instincts, but I genuinely prefer these new Sharks. With a price tag that's also significantly cheaper than its competitors, I definitely will keep buying these Sharks once my current pair...

sorry for the spam my other video got copyrighted, I initially thought it'd be ok since yt allowed me to upload the original with Back in Black in the first place. Changed the second half of the video a bit, not enough for a re-watch, but a re-watch would be really appreciated haha :)) Just a bunch of friends going on a climbing trip. First time sport climbing outdoors for me.

Cool video bao! I liked the reflection stuff a lot actually, good to see what's in that noggin of yours. I think you've definitely developed your slab climbing a bunch, which was cool to see. 7 months ago I could barely get you on a slab. I don't think your physical preparation was lacking, I'm fairly certain you're in the best shape you've ever been. You just seem more rushed and anxious when your climbing in comp. I wonder if you would benefit from sports psychology/ mindset work. Also that green boulder looked impossible.
Yeah, I think I can always be stronger, crimp harder, but i really need to work on the psychology of climbing and being present in the climbing n just the climbing
I am a heavy guy. I wear drone cs and stiffness is balanced for me in those. How is the stiffness compared to drone cs or drone 2.0 if you haven't used drone cs. ?
They’re a bit softer than the drone 2.0’s, but I haven’t tried the drone cs’s to be able to tell if they’re softer. The top of the shoe is quite stiff, but the rest is softer
How did the sizing compare to the drone
Same sizing as the drone 2.0’s, soz for the late rep
great revew now i just have to hope they relese a lv version.
They will, I think around the summer time, they’re testing the prototypes here in VN right now, my friends got to see them, pretty cool
How do you find the science friction rubber on the sharks compares to the vibram grip 2 on the solution comp and instruct women’s/how do they perform on slabby smearing volumes? I have drone 2.0 and I do find it to be quite a bit less sticky but I wonder if that’s is just because of how stiff the drones are.
They’re sticker than the rubber on the instincts, i think it’s just cos their sole is softer than the drones cos there’s low profile volumes where I could stand no hands w the sharks but trying my friends drones I couldn’t
see you at the world cups
That’s the goal, that’s the goal🫡

White guy looked surprised with your pull ups

Madrock shoes just aren't very good climbing shoes in comparison to any of the other major brands in my opinion. I just feel like they are cheaply made.
I think that was the case for a while but I feel like they’re a lot better now I certainly can’t tell
@@bao.ng04 fair comment as I haven’t worn the most recent ones. I find that the solution LV just fit the shape of my heel better as the old Madrock would slip after few weeks of having them no matter how much I downsized. I guess each person is different, great review though 💪🏼
No I’d have to give you that, madrock shoes do expand hella. I use to have a pair of solution comps LV and I really enjoyed my time before they got worn out. Thanks for the kinds words tho 🙌
How do you recommend downsizing ?
It’s weird bc I have flat foot syndrome n it feels like my feet are more malleable? But I wear converse 8 and wear madrock 6.5. But my best recommendation is to find someone who’s wearing any new madrocks with similar sized feet to you and ask what size they wear
As someone who had one of the first pairs of the original Sharks back in the day, I'm happy to see Mad Rock still innovating. I usually now climb with Solutions or Tenaya Latis, but I may test the Shark 3 when I need a new pair. I did some damn hard bouldering in the original Sharks!
Yeah I started with madrock as well and did a lot of my first big jumps with them, then naturally progressed to la sportiva and scarpa but it’s nostalgic to be back
I've gotta say, I'm fairly new at climbing and I saw that the shark 3's came out and this video helped so much, it was honest with the positives and negatives of the shoe so thank you so much I now have a pair of shark 3's. this video made me subscribe so I'm looking forward to new content. thanks again man
Dude thank you for the kind words man, I appreciate it dawg. I hope u the best with ur climbing as well 💪
Thank you so much bro, much appreciated man and I’m looking forward to more of your videos, I tried out the sharks at my climbing gym and they performed just as expected thank you once again bro I really appreciate it
Great review thanks. How would you size them in comparison with the Drone 2.0? same size or 0.5 down?
Same size as the drone 2.0
So sick, we really enjoyed watching this! Let us know if we can answer any questions ☺
I would love to keep representing your brand!
Thank you so much for the review!! Been waiting for one for months. Really appreciate it
Nice! Just tried to make smt that id watch before I buy a pair of my own yknow
finally, a good shark 3.0 review so i can finally affirm myself into replacing my 2.0s. Seriously thank you for making this review I was surprised when these shoes sold out within the first hour and I saw no reviews online in the following months.
Dude my thoughts exactly, I wasn’t gonna even make a review but weeks of waiting n I was like fuck it ppl would wanna know what they’re buying beforehand
Idk about the heel on this shoe. I use it is a gym burner, I sized down (0.5) and had to engage pretty hard on a heel hook & the shoe was coming off with the strap completely tightened. I feel like the heel stretched way too much
I think u didn’t downsize it enough, bc I used to have this problem with my redline straps, where I’d be heeling too hard n the back half would come off my heel. Consequently I downsized another 0.5 of a size and stopped having the issue. I also have flat foot syndrome so my feet are a bit more malleable so I downsized from a converse 8 to a madrock 6.5 to get an incredible fit. But going just 0.5 definitely could lead to some looseness.
Thanks for the informative. Not sure if I heard it wrong but did you have the Sharks half size smaller than Instinct women's?
Ah no, I was saying that the sharks size 6 is equivalent to the instinct’s size 6&1/3, instincts has 1/3 sizes
setting up the camera must be a sinister endeavor at ascend
Bro ppl knew shit was abt to go down when the cameras on 😈
Sorry but Solution and Instinct is a completely different category compared to anything MadRock has to offer. The only advantage is the cheat heel, which doesn’t really make you better at heel hooks it just lowers the difficulty for you, which I find quite immoral.
Interesting, yeah I’d love to hear what category u think the solutions n instincts are in and why they differ from madrock’s portfolio. But for the heel argument, ur fussy abt semantics, like obv no shoe is going to make ur anything better, but I was already extremely good with my heel hooks with my instincts, often beating my V12-13 climber friends by exploiting my heel hooking abilities. But the sharks heel allows my maximum heel potential to be so much greater hence my positive opinion
lol 5:23
Yup
fantastic review - very comprehensive and concise (also you look super strong <3)! i saw a couple comments about the drone cs vs the shark 3.0s, and i actually wrote out a first impressions review on r/climbingshoes a couple weeks ago that should answer those questions just so you don't have to keep answering them. i'm glad you've been enjoying those shoes and truthfully seeing you climb in them makes me want to more heavily consider purchasing myself a pair!
Hahaha thank you for the very thoughtful comment, I appreciate it
I wish REI sold these. I would love to try these without worrying about not being able to return them if they don’t workout. Definitely will be considering them when I wear through my solution comps
Yea coming from Vietnam to the us I keep forgetting I can return things, cos back home I’d just have to live with whatever i got so buy climbing shoes was low key always really stressful
Really great video! Just subscribed :)
Ayee sweet
Dog you’re going to flood your dorm with that training set up
Hahahah nah they’re just background props
But the rings on the corner work hella well
hey man go umass! wondering if those clips of you outdoor climbing were around campus or back home? great vid
It at the new Umass climbing gym! And Farley of course
Hum and the rush!
Did Yo Ali yesterday, sharks made all the heel intensive moves light work, no problem ez
i will not stand by drone hate speech
nah im on that drone slander 24/7
i think you should not b able to use the heel its too good disliking video >:(((
I was already goated at heel hooking before the sharks, but now w the sharks I go crazy 😎😎
So when do shoes become aid?
Nah shoes r shoes I’m just sayin the heels are actually amazing plus it’s a good thumbnail hahah
Just got mine last week and sent my first v9 with two very heavy toe hooks 😼
Congrats! Can confirm, they work well! Sent a techy twelve with 3 toe hooks and 2 toe cams. Best toe hooking shoe out probably?
Towing is aid, did you attach the hooks to a crane?
That’s what I’m sayin! They basically aid! But I ain’t complaining hahah
I'm looking for my first pair of climbing shoes and I've been recommended the tarantulas countless times but these look sick honestly still don't know much about any of these shoes but I'm just tryna stop renting honestly 😂😂 would these do me well for a one and done climbing shoe? how do I even size these shoes what are they supposed to fit like??
Yeah the tarantulas are like the canon event shoe for every climber, but I recommend going to a store or gym where u could actually try them on and ask someone more knowledgeable. But these could be ur everything shoe, but you’ll know what u need the more experience u get, no way around it sadly
The main reasons people are recommending tarantulas (and black diamond momentum) for beginners are: 1. COMFORT, 2. low price, 3. good edging performance. The problem with starting with more advanced shoes is the shapes will be really painful for a beginner, and they won't even be enjoying the benefits of the shape on the basic climbing they will be doing. Take, for instance, downturn - useful for really hooking into small footholds on an overhang or roof. Super painful and unnecessary for a beginner who won't be forced to deal with those movements until around v4 or 5. Looks like these shark 3.0s have a very beginner-friendly shape PLUS a toe patch, which is a huge plus over the tarantulas and momentums. But then we get to price, and they cost almost double. This is even more significant considering a beginner will absolutely burn through their first pair of shoes due to poor smearing or poor toe rotation techniques. Finally, as shown by OP in the video, the shark 3.0's have kind of a stubby toe tip in lieu of a hooked tip. This will hinder edging performance.
@@Darkolas very interesting insight although to be fair some new tarantulas are like 100 bucks give or take and these sharks show 130 as of whenever I'm writing this but with that being said I feel you on the not being able to use the shoe to it's fullest potential simply because I'm not even climbing that hard yet. On the comfort end I couldn't say for sure cause I've never even had a downturned shoe on my feet before but nonetheless I'll be sure to take these things into consideration when I finally get time to actually go try on some shoes
@@G4Master96these are out of the box the most comfortable shoes i’ve had. i’ve had the scarpa veloce, la sportiva kubo, and madrock drone cs. even the best of those were unbearable at times event after breaking them in. i’ve got kind weird greek feet so finding a good fit sucks.
Farley spotted! Great information, thinking about picking up a pair of these. Long time drone user, now rocking the drone CS. Do you think the fit will be the same between the two?
I don’t have much experience w the cs’, but compared to the drone 2.0 it’s abt the same, a bit wider at the toe box and possibly comfier inner lining overall
shark4.0: comes with a steel hook attached to the heel. shark5.0: comes with a ladder attached to the heel.
Fr I was just talking abt it w some friends cos it took them like 15yrs from 2.0 to 3.0. The 4.0 are gonna have a rubber, bolt sized tip in the front so u can just stick it into the wall and stand up 😂😂😂
nice quality video
Thank you dude, I was so close to not uploading it cos I wanted it to be higher production but ppl encouraged me to just release it cos something now is better than something way later in HD >.<
thanks for the review! you've mentioned that you also climbed in the instinct womens - can you compare the heel cup sizing/shape of both shoes? the low volume instinct heel fits me really well whereas the drone cs heel cup is way to deep for me
The WMN instinct and sharks both fit my heel super well, but I actually found that the instinct’s heel performed next lvl with a bit of a air bubble bc the rubber rand could wrap around features more, I’ve been able to outperform some of my V12 climber friends w the instinct heel n technique consistently. But w the sharks the heel is just better.
thanks for the insight!
Yeah! I just wanted to get some real climbing opinions out there cos there wasn’t anything on yt
How do they compare to the drone cs fit? I have heard the heel feels a bit different!
From the limited time I’ve gotten to try drone cs’ (mostly tried the drone 2.0) I feel like the sharks are definitely wider on the toe box side, the heel feels basically the same on the inside, if not a little comfier?
Nice video! What about the heel box? It looks kinda boxy? Or is it narrow like the Drones or the Sharks 2.0 for example?
Damn I had this info in my notes but I completely forgot to read it. It’s a little more bulbous than the drones but not has round as the shark 2.0’s. The fit is similar to the drones but there’re bigger sizing cutouts on the heel so they could expand if you do have a bigger heel
@@bao.ng04 interesting! I have a narrow heel… so it shouldn‘t be that big of a difference compared to 2.0 or sharks right?
Yeah when I try my friends drone 2.0 in the same size i couldn’t tell a difference, possibly it’s a bit more comfy on the sharks 3.0
Hey man, I have the scarpa instinct V2 and they are perfect in size for me. Are these somewhat simulair?
Lmao was too early with my question. Im at the point you are explaining my exact question, thanks for the video man!
Hahaha I gotchu covered dawg, first time I got my instincts I was also scouring the Internet for the conversion from like la sportiva sizing so definitely had to mention the conversions 🫡
@@bao.ng04 Thanks man 💪🏼
