    Getting over the fear of bugs as I settle in my new apartment and saw a cockroach after two months of moving. I’m going to try this hierarchy exercise. Thank you!!! What’s the science behind “altering” what your brain thinks about the phobia? Do you have articles about this that you like/suggest? I’m really nervous about the bugs I might see in the future. 🥲

    • @workinonitwithdr.a8091
      @workinonitwithdr.a8091 Рік тому

      I’m so so happy you’ll give this a try, make sure you’re patient and increase the length and intensity of the exposures over time. Also CONGRATS on your apartment, what an exciting new adventure. You’re not quite altering what your brain thinks of it you’re dulling it and desensitizing it, showing your brain that the thing it thinks is catastrophic really isn’t. Each exercise proves it more and more. Good luck :)

      Good question! Think of it like this- being assertive takes some discomfort and vulnerability. So you’re willing to be uncomfortable, but honest, for the sake of your relationship to continue on a good path with the other person. Instead of only thinking about yourself, you’re also considering the other person and your relationship with them.
