The second of two pieces that I entered into Chelmer Valleys competition, this time into the segmented category, this also one first place in class. Made from segments of Yew, Iroko & Elm with strips of coloured Beech veneer and left overs of my coloured laminated ply pen blanks. Sanded to 240g and finished with a combination of @ChestnutProducts Sanding Sealer, Friction Polish & Microcrystalli...
Wood Pile to Platter

One of my cousins said he'd left me some wood by the back gate, he didn't think it was anything good but its better then putting it on the fire, and with Christmas coming I decided to turn this ugly lump of wood into a plate for him. I've been playing with colour a lot recently so decided to do a coloured band. Sanded to 240g and finished with sanding sealer, TruGrit Paste, Friction Polish and ...

Beautiful and delicate turned flower made from a sycamore log. Less then 1mm thick at the top this piece won me first place at my local woodturning club. Sanded to 240g and finished with this videos sponsor @DovetailsNotNails8090 Fine Wood Finish. I've been working with Tim for a couple of years now and I use his finish on everything that cant be finished on the lathe. All my yarn bowls, choppi...

Đoạn ở 4:50 đúng là điểm nhấn của video này! Nếu bạn thích kiểu khám phá như vậy, mình nghĩ kênh mình cũng có vài thứ thú vị cho bạn đó.😍😍
Nice platter !!! Great job !! And thank You for the wood turning video and not a music video !!!
@@mikesbackyardgarage5578 thank you and your welcome.. all my latest vids are a little bit at the beginning and end but I can’t stand the videos with all the music either lol
Your lathe is way too small to do that kind of work. Safety first.
@@robertcornelius3514No need to worry on that front, I’m well within the lathe’s manufacturer limits with that piece. RP says the lathe can go upto 30”, I’ve got it bolted to the floor and it’s variable speed so I had full control. The other thing you didn’t see in the video is how it was mounted and how long it actually took me. The faceplate used is a 16 hole faceplate and the whole thing was done over the course of 3 days, nice and gentle.
Great work as always!
Cheers Derek 😊
Great work Mark, would you mind telling me what speed you’re running the lathe at, I’m assuming it’s got to be quite low. All the best for Christmas and New Year.
Cheers David. Happy Christmas to you and the family. To be honest I didn't look, but probably around 750-800 as I had it on the slowest belt setting. I dont tend to look at or get caught up over the number. I go by feel and stability and adjust as i go. I hope this helps. Have a great new year.
Beautifully made and great video 🙂
Cheers Guys. Happy Christmas to you all
I would have snapped that at 4 different stages of the turning. Good job.
Thank you.. yeah I had my concerns i must admit.. got quite wobbly towards the end lol
Pith is dead center. Good work.
Thank you.. 😊
Nice work mate. That was a classic of 'it ain't done til its done', even the waxing looked nerve racking🤣 Lovely piece 👍
Cheers fella.. yeah its a lovely challenge and im thinking i may demo it in Feb at Chelmer Valley.. lovely risky project for a demo :-D
Very nice pal, enjoyed watching. A little sketchy at the end, I thought it was gonna go 👏👏👏👏
Cheers fella, im glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it was getting very wobbly towards the end but sooooo happy it survived lol

@@derekwright2388 thank you ☺️
Gah I hate hate hate Eucy! its such a pain to do anything with,
@@derekwright2388 yeah I know where your coming from.. I’ve got quite a lot of it, some prepped for handles some for bowls.. all the bowl blanks are split and all the handles are warped.. Resin for the cracks and err…. Maybe boomerangs for the other bits maybe? 🤣
Nice tour. Good space
@@MarkBeckettRPT thank you.. time to watch yours 😊
Looks really great Mark. Your hard work has massively paid off!
Very nice pal 👍
Cheers fella. You need to pop in next time your in the area

Wow🎉❤
Very nice pal, nice to see something turned in real time. Best thing I’ve watched for a while. 😊👍👍
Cheers fella. It was a fun plate to make.
Great reviews and showing how to use it
Cheers fella 👍🏻
Good review pal. I’m in the market for a sphere jig, this helps a bunch. 😊😊😊
cheers fella. it’s a great bit of kit, what I will say for your work is get the carbide cutter for it. it should be better for your resin work
@@treecarcasstweaking1555 cheers pal 😊

Looks great!
Thank you ☺️
I’ve got a lump of that pal, split exactly the same, been wondering what to do with it, thanks for sharing. 😊
Cheers fella… Just watch yourself as it’s got a reputation for coming apart when your turning it. I’ll bring it to club and you’ll see how thick I’ve left it just to be safe
Very nice that pal 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Cheers fella
Very nice pal. Must have missed this one. 😊👍
Cheers fella. I really need to get one with more videos
Very nice pal 👍😊
cheers fella.
Absolutely love the black contrast!
Thank you, so do I, I’ll be making more of these I think
Nice piece .do u apply worm killer on oak creatings ?
hi, thank you. no I don’t. wasn’t something I was aware of. I’ll assume you mean for wood worm? I generally don’t have an issue with bugs in my wood store. I check everything that comes in and if there is evidence of wood worm it’s either burned or used straight away
How long does it take to get good at this? I’d really like to get into this.
Thank you, I started turning in March 2020, so a little over 3 years now. Still learning new techniques but it’s good fun 😊
@@treecarcasstweaking1555 awesome!!
You are very practical and objective, congratulations on the excellent work and the richness of all the details.
Thank you 😊
Lovely finish on that pal 😍😍😍👏👏👏👏
cheers fella.. I’ll bring it to club next month
Nice that is pal. Made the premier and even though I felt like Billy no mates, the video made up for it. Good work soldier 🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏
I totally forgot I was releasing a video 🤦🏻♂️🤣 I’m glad you enjoyed it. I had fun with the pine cones so gunna do another one but bigger
@@treecarcasstweaking1555 😂😂😂 look forward to the next one pal 💪
Great work. What product do you use to get that lovely shine??
I use a combination or sanding sealer, a single coat of friction polish and a final single coat of gloss Mono-crystalline wax
@Tree Carcass Tweaking thanks for the reply. Looks lovely 😍
Keep missing the premiers so sorry for that mate. Wicked egg though pal 👏👏👏👏
do I need to start them later do you recon? say 7 or 8?
@@treecarcasstweaking1555 not really pal, beer o clock starts at 6 here 😂😂😂 I’m just easily distracted. I even read it on your Instagram story 20 mins before go live but still missed it. 🙈 loved the finish btw. I’ve got friction polish but only used it once, in all fairness it was right at the start of my woodturning journey but after seeing that egg, it’s inspired me to have another bash. 😊😊😊👍
Thats a stunning peace of wood
cheers bro
Pretty cool bowl pal 👏👏👏👏 although with my 2” sanding disks I feel quite inadequate 😂😂😂. We’ll done mate. 🔥🔥🔥
Size isn’t everything fella, I can’t get inside of bowls with the big one lol
@@treecarcasstweaking1555 😂😂😂 can’t touch the sides
Enjoyed the video pal, sorry I missed the premiere 🙈😊😊😊
