Both the Aquatic Arena and Arena do Futuro were temporary structures dismantled after the Olympics, with parts repurposed to build schools, the Olympic Park remains active, having recently hosted Rock in Rio, and is set to transform further with the "Imagine project". This massive entertainment complex, expected to open in 3-4 years, will include a theme park, resort, amphitheater and bussiness tower. Sure, you can say it is land speculation but there are worst examples in Barra da Tijuca alone, like the "Centro Metropolitano da Barra" just up north of the Olympic Park, is a set of vacant lots waiting for prices to rise before being developed, this time at least they promised to develop something and Rio misses an Amusement Park since the closure of Terra Encantada in 2010.
