Lets all be realistic here... The chase video said in description she tried to charge me 3 times more than the printed price. Lets say the printed price was 150npr... x3... thats less than £3... In the chase video, the nepali woman also yelled something ahout 1000 or 2000 rupees - 2000 NPR is less than £10... So I don't know what price is real but... I appreciate that when you travel it's not great to pay a white tax/tourist tax, but for the sake of less than £10 or less than £3 its hardly the biggest budget smasher out there... Smarten up, ask price before hand and if you forget and mess up, take your hard earned lesson and realise it won't financially ruin you.

It doesn't matter if you are Nepali or not Nepali, you go hiking these treks, everybody pays the fixed what the owners say. Behind the price, they calculate what effort they put into to making the price in the most honest way, and it has been like that for many many years. The Truth is, the higher you go in altitute, the higher the price becomes. To understand why, you have to know couple things. Before globalisation hit Nepal, people used to live in rural corners by their will. Nowadays, people are moving towards cities, comfort, and facilities. So, the only people left on these remote places are shop owners and people who trade. While all this transformation has taken place during multiple years, the transportation infrastructure from cities to these rural places has barely changed. There is no access for four or two wheelers to these places. Everything must be taken either by people themselves or donkeys. It is those same donkey's generation that is carrying the loads to the top every trip, every day, every year. They carry almost everything that can be carried on their back starting from salt, rice, medicine, water, and you can imagine the rest of modern human's basic needs. Maybe in future if there are roads and cable cars across the hills and mountains, the price may go cheaper, but that may take few generations or never happen at all. Given, the prices in the Nepali metropolitian cities are not capped, or managed by the council, it very much makes sense to think that shop owners hike the price, and it also makes sense for you to bargain, but it is not like that everywhere in Nepal and that has a reason as well. There are few types of business people in Nepal. One the famous Nepali Merchant, Newa, has their hold on Kathmandu, Lalitpur, & Patan. In recent days however, The Madwadis & Bihaari from India have bought lands, properties, and business in Nepal corrupting Kathmandu Council members, politicians, and government officials, ruining the long holding Nepali culture day by day. You may ask, where is the evidence for this? Not everything is documented in paper and ink. It is observed and experienced as well. In my experience as I grew up both in village and metropolotian cities of Nepal, it is those Indian merchants who cheat on the prices. Contrastingly, one thing Nepali know very good, is loyalty and honesty. This culture of honesty and loyalty has been set by our Kings & Queens, Buddha, and Hindu Gods in the span of generations. Take a look around Kathamandu, majority of the street vendors are Indian, the little kids who come to ask you for money are Indian, the Sadhus and Yogis are Indian. All the menial jobs, gaps, and businesses have been discovered and taken. The Indians who immigrate to Nepal are mostly from North India, a.k.a Bihaar. We used to hear jokes when we were kids about how Bihari people will loot your watch if you take your hand out of airplane (Airplanes were small and had windows back then) That is a stereotype and there are genuinely great people with families and great ambitions. Again, Bihari being cheater is just a stereotype. Rather, bihaar has scarcity of everything because it is a dry and arid place with very less vegetation and water. It may be environment of Bihaar that makes people compelled to find short routes to success. For fact, It has the highest rate in crime among all of India. Majority of Bihaar's officials are corrupted, which even a Bihaari can confirm. People who escape from Bihaar find Nepal most pleasant. To answer why the prices are not fixed or capped, there is another reason. It was fixed and regulated, until.... the Royal Family of Nepal was murdered in one room on a Friday night dinner (which after 22 years is still a mystery), and now there is no government body to regulate the rules. There is actually, but it is like vestigial organs because they have been in a long wait, like hyenas, to taste the Royalty of the Kingdom suddenly got a chance to experience. Today, every level of government offical, from a cleaner to the Prime Minister & President are corrupted, in hopes of getting richer and richer, looting from public, from public services to retail, wholesale, import, export and whatever they can get their hands into. Nepal has slowly become a heaven for exploitation for Bihaari & Maadwadi people, no offense, but it is the reality. Globalisation has taken Nepal from a proud place to where nobody wants to go settle anymore. Every single day, thousands of Nepali ADULTs fly out from Nepal for "opportunities", and with the tide, I flew out as well. Left in the country are old, physically weak, and young people. To sum up, it is not only the logistics that caused the price to be high, but it is the frustration from a longing situation that has caused the aggression, since you provoked the lady where you really should show respect for their hard work. Please know where in Nepal you are, who you are dealing with, and be kind. 99% of the times, Nepali people are caring, giving, and kind. There is also no need to give extra money like the new youtubers give away, but don't try to cheat hard workers. They work to meet your needs and treat you Royal!
