    When i put the cartridge in the sleeve and screwed the sleeve closed all the gas came out, and that’s with the dial set to closed. Anyone have this issue?

    Yea, I disagree with this. The Ukeg is amazing and alot easier to use (I have used both). The 128 in copper is beautiful and lasts for years.

    on that ManCan it makes me wonder...when you pop off the co2 and the other hose constantly. You are eventually going to wear that rubber out....and will that rubber eventually turn to goo like my 1960s soda bottle rubber did....Great looking bottle cannot find any of the rubber parts to fix it....just worried in a few years that unit will have the same issues???? Maybe not?

    The “valve thing”, which is the tap lock, will NOT stick if you simply wash it off once in a while. It gets stuck from sticky/dry beer in/on it. I’ve had 2 keg 128’s for 3 years now, use them at least once or twice a month, I have had to take one of the pressure regulators apart once to clean it out. It took me 15 minutes, has worked perfectly since. Cleaning a keg could NOT be easier. When you finish the beer, turn off the regulator, open and wash out inside with water, then fill 1/2 ways up with water, put cap back on and turn on regulator (there should be some pressure left in the co2). Simply open the tap and let some clean water run thru it for a minute. DONE! Takes 45 seconds. So you need to go back to the drawing board. I have nothing to do with the company... but I LOVE the ukegs.

      I keep mine on all the time. It will stop when the bin is full and start back up after the bucket empties due to the ice melting. I know someone else that runs it just long enough to harvest ice to fill up their freezer. I don't like the texture of the ice after it has been stored in the freezer.

    Great reviews. Thank you for the break down. I am thinking of getting the uKeg Go. It's a simpler and more rugged design than the original (less parts to the clean), but it also less sexy. I would love to see your take on that one.

    Do you know if this ice maker is intended to be left on permanently? I have been researching other ice makers and one said the area the ice is held is not kept at temp and it will melt over time. The ice is meant to be taken out and stored elsewhere. To met this sounds insane. Just wanted to verify maybe that was a one off model and not the norm for these types of ice makers.

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92 5 років тому

      We leave ours on 24x7 and let it melt into the catch bin to trigger new ice to be made. I have a relative who runs it once a week and stores the generated ice in the freezer, but I think it takes away from the texture of the nugget ice. As for the noise it is pretty loud, but even though it is on 24x7, it only generates ice (noise) when the bin becomes mostly empty. Over time I have become accustomed to the background noise and it no longer bothers me.

    I have the 128 ounce UKeg and love it. Never had any of these problems mentioned. Its a great little system to take out to friends house for my own better beer. It is not totally flawless but much better looking system. The beer stays cold and the sight glass is a selling feature to me. They will all foam if you carry it around. Pour your beer let it sit in cooler for couple hours and gently take it to a party. Remember CO2 will not stay in suspension if shook up. Cheers.

    I’m sorry but this is a piece of crap. Our first one broke within the first year of owning it. The company wouldn’t fix it and have us $100 off a new one. So we bought a new one and now 2 months later it’s now broken as well. They need to produce a better product.

      We've had ours now for almost two years. It runs 24x7 and have had no issues with it so far. It is loud, but it doesn't run all the time (while the bin is already full) and I think you just get used to it after a while.

      The Stuff And The Thing Do you have to move the ice to the freezer or does the bin keep it solid?

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92 5 років тому

      @@nicolehershman Some people make ice for a few hours and then store it in the freezer. We just keep it running all day. It will make ice and then slowly melt in the bin. Once the bin gets too low the machine will start making ice again.

    I have had the 128 ManCan for several years. I love it. I bought a tap off Ebay for $35. then the cartridges. Once you get use to it you can pour beer very nicely. This works great if you have a fridge in the garage for that extra storage. At one time, ManCan had a complete unit for $100. with tap and all. That was an exceptional deal. I bought that but gave it to a friend for his birthday. Not sure if ManCan is in business anymore but if you can pick one up, it is awesome.

    Very cool stuff. I don't have either. I buy in 32 oz growlers vs. 64s. That way if you only have a couple pints, the other 32 is still uncapped and stays longer. It costs a bit more per ounce, but there's no CO2 to buy or system cleaning to deal with. Cheers, and thanks for the review!

      I don't see why it couldn't be used to make soda water, since you can use it to carbonate your home brew. You would just have to dial up the pressure and let it sit for a few days.

    It looks like this guy received an older Ukeg unit, probably purchased prior to the company correcting all of the issues he is mentioning. Much like anything else with the level internal complexities of these two units, they require basic upkeep. Rinse it out and flush with warm water after every use; tap, cap, internals and all -which you should do with any growler/keg. You DO NOT have to tear this thing down piece by piece, it was made for longevity. If you do this you should have no issues other than basic wear and tear(O-rings and such). Love my Ukeg and wouldnt trade it for anything.

      Current: 120V AC / 60 Hz / 2.5 A (300 watts) Given the Nugget's power consumption it looks like you could just use a power inverter hooked up to your car. I read that freezers\fridges have a quick power surge on startup (3 times running wattage), so the inverter needs to be rated to handle that. www.amazon.com/Power-Bright-PW900-12-Inverter-Watt/dp/B000NM4DVW/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&srs=2530188011&ie=UTF8&qid=1531834759&sr=1-7

    Hey James. Great video and you seem genuine in your review. for what its worth I'm a home craft brewer and have made plenty of batches with great success. I normally brew 5 gals at a time but I can brew up to 38 gals at a time...that's a lot of brew dude! Not a single one has gone bad or spoiled. Here's my thought on the uKeg v the Mancan. If one is looking to turn heads and have an awesome looking party presentation with loads of cool comments then the uKeg cannot be beat. It is WAY COOL! One the other end, the Mancan is definitely a scaled down version of what you see in the brewpubs. the ability to carry with the SS cap, external CO2 quick connect (you can use a 5 lb bottle and supply several cans at the same time) durability when transporting and finally the ability to transfer the beer from a pressurized conical (where I ferment and make the beer) into the can dramatically lessens its exposure to O2 meaning longer storage life. Cleaning looks much easier. Just use a product called PBW for either and let them soak for a while (maybe couple hours) then swish and rinse with Star San and your cleaning issues are gone forever. Here's the final comment on these two using your video as an example. they both are great at what they do (Mancan probably better) and will turn heads and deliver a great beer into the glass. One is a hot blonde (Mancan) and she will definately take care of your needs and get your buddy's attention and the other (uKeg) is a spicy, sexy Redhead. She'll do everything the blonde will but she has an attitude and requires much more maintenance. I like them both for different reasons and the fact that your dating both make you a beer stud! Salute my friend!

    How much longer does the beer stay fresh with these vs a typical growler?

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92 6 років тому

      Once you open a non-pressurized growler I would say you have 2-3 days to drink it all. With one of these pressurized ones you can leave the beer in the fridge for weeks. The longest I've had beer in mine is for around 2 weeks and the last pint still tasted fresh.
