Custom made bars, new grips, single throttle assembly. New top end gaskets, valve stem seals, valves freshly lapped (compression between 150-160psi per cylinder)...

I enjoyed building my 1979 CB650 bobber so much I sold it and bought a new bike. A 1986 XV750 Virago. I've chopped it a bit, made a few mods and gave it some fresh paint . . . . This video is a short DIY/demo of an old school technique to restore back pressure to straight pipes (debaffled stock exhaust) so the bike can run as intended and regain some lost low end power/torque. Each of the stator legs should read 0.5 ohm's respectively. It wasn't shorted to ground so that's a really good sign.

  • @murraykriner9425
    @murraykriner9425 2 роки тому

    You should never trust the factory's tach too much for accuracy. The petcock obviously has a ruptured diagram or isn't receiving vacuum from the engine since it's starving the fuel feed from the tank. If it did it all the time I'd look for blockage in either the fuel line, or a clogged vent tube from the tank.

    I was getting ready to unearth this segment of my 86' XV-700 to check all the internals while I rebuild the starter motor. So glad my recent purchase didn't have the forward controls since they get in the way of some of those front fasteners. Appreciate the aid.

    Please disconnect the battery when you do this! The plastic cover over the solenoid has Chrome inside that leads electricity. I shorted my starter not having the battery disconnected when messing around with the solenoid when removing the left cover as seen here. You can disconnect the wires easily, just follow them and you'll see the connectors.

    Hey, have you tried a compression test on each cylinder? It seems to me that when you removed the plug leads, the front cylinder was doing all the work and the rear cylinder is not up to the job properly. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

    This is the very best video I have seen, The last motorcycle I had was a 1981 Virago 750 purchased right off the showreoom floor. I rode it until 2012 when we moved from CA to NC I gave it away as we had no room to load it in the hauler. My wife purchased a 1996 Virago 1100 for a late Xmas present for me. ($500) The guy that sold it to her said "It only needs a starter relay and it would run". HAHAHAHA I replaced the Starter relay and it only clicks. Now I'm going to replace the starter. When I pull the left side cover I'm going to check the gears and replace them if needed. I have replaced the missing exhaust gaskets, replaced the brake pads and rear shoes, missing bolts and the 41r-71 relay. I was having problems with the shifter when I pulled the cover I noticed someone installed it in upside down and forgot the spring. When I called the guy to ask him some questions he told me HIS MECVHANIC checked it over and said it was just the starter relay was defective. He would not tell me who the mechanic was. I suspect he was the mechanic. This video was an excellent review for me. Thanks again for the great video.

      lol thanks for the comment. I think. No, like most people I never went to engineering school hahaha. This bike is long gone now, turned out to have a faulty connection which made one cylinder cut in and out which I eventually found and fixed. But thats part of the poor sound at this point.
