I’d like to hear what Daniel Immerwahr says about the current Panama Canal news
America is founded on both the freedom to dissent against your government and the right to overthrow it. These people are calling for civilian disarmament. You cannot be “free” in a democracy if you have no means to overthrow a tyrant government. The irony is that they are scared of “strong men” yet advocate to disarm themselves to prepare themselves as lambs for the slaughter. If an American Pinochet attempted overtake America, we the people would put him out with our arms because you can’t wait for someone to save you. I see you need to bash my president to sell books. President Trump NEVER went after his political opponents, never unleashed the military on Americans, never did a single thing to all the people who were nasty to him. He didn’t start new wars. He transitioned power peacefully. Face the facts, no American President is a dictator of any sort. We have many war criminals but they don’t seem to bother you, probably because it doesn’t sell books. It is funny how when a populist leader comes from the “right” they are called “far right/dictator/fascist”, but a typical populist socialist democrat will just be called a “progressive”. The only progress I see has been made by Trump, everyone else is all talk. Trump is the real progressive if we are being honest here. You have to measurably improve your country in some legit way to earn that title. Trump moved America forward. Deal with it. Lastly, not everyone who supports Trump is conservative or on the right. These labels don’t make sense America. The truth is that Trump in many ways is more left than the democrats. Don’t believe my word for it, look at his record in his first term.
I cannot believe Samuel Moyn and Glenn Greenwald are taken seriously by anyone.
Right now, American Imperialism, even with its police state domestic terrorists is to be favored over the criminal gang that is Putin- China- Iran- N Korea- India and myriad such others. In fact, American and European power is now needed more than ever; the police state (policing agencies; veterans: marines and navy; contractors, militias; far right gangs; part of the legitimate government, part of the judicial system), not so much.
GREAT BEN GHIAT
Definitely do ISRAEL NEXT! 😶
Listening to this on July 1st, 2024, post-debate debacle. Underscores the idea that chump should not be anywhere NEAR politics, much less at large...and still so. Breathtaking.
do Israel
The Dune saga are a cyclical tale of humanity - as far as we know, and extrapolated... More than that, they are also a tragedy about the Atreides family and lienage as a whole. Part of me thinks this is why their lieage in the lore is Greek as an homage (Atreus, father of Agamemnon and Menelaos).
what do you think of this scary catchy slogan? Biden: "This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated" How is the so-called unvaccinated a danger to the so-called vaccinated, how does that logic work.
Ruth, what do you think of this scary catchy slogan?

youtube censoring comments again.
Unfortunately we can see ur pointless blather! 😅
The book is about the danger of imperialism.
Definitely the most important book I ever read, it really opened my eyes to deeper subjects like colonialism, religion, ecology, cults, philosophy and culture. I did a book report on it in 1999 when I was a freshmen in high school, it has always been in the back of mind all throughout my adulthood.
Soul Catcher is very interesting.
This snake is a paid brown sahib or house N, who will do or say anything to defame Hinduism for his racist leftist neo colonial masters
Fast forward to NOW, 9/18/23...since this lecture first aired & how much of what Ruth speaks of has not only come to light but has worsened, intensified, and thus her predictive models are extremely on point. But, it also has educated, motivated & intensified the inspiration to fight back...to push back to fight FOR democracy! Its highlighted and inspired our need to collectively fight back, forming coalitions & pushing back in the war against disinformation.
People with 0 marketable skill work in useless academia. This woman is a jew fyi. Their opinions are presented as respectable and credible, due to their pretigious ability to interperet a book. Dont put these people on a pedastool, the real terrorist are her middle eastern family and their control of the media. Btw, jews arent white.
The story about Indian Henry reminds me of the one about Pardot Kynes, as presented by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson
Great and informative discussion. Thank you. One thing I missed about the rise of Trump, and in my opinion not discussed enough by journalists and authors covering him, is his unwavering support from white evangelicals. The seeds of authoritarianism have found fertile ground in them, and their unsurpassed contribution to an idealized (toxic) masculinity has been well documented in Kristin Kobes Du Mez‘a book, Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.
His wife was a writer I'm positive she contributed to his writing in dune!!!
Dune was written as a warning about charismatic leaders religions and governments!!!!
This idiot is always in the past talking about dalit vysya caste system. This fool yengde does not know exploitation as he is being again exploited by the abrahmic agenda in harvard. Did he study in India and took use of the reservation given to SC/ST and who funded for his reservation? Who ruled India in last 1000 yrs? Did the brahmins vysya etc ruled India or the muslim and british? Is this caste system amplified by the muslim and british rulers in last 1000 yrs to achieve their goal of converting the non believers and khafirs (hindus)to Islam and christianity? Who wrote ramayan and mahabharat was it written by brahmin ? Did the muslim league use this caste system in partitioning india and the so called dalits did they vote for muslim league ? Where the abrahmic agenda of partitioning India successful with the help of these pawns who play in their hands ? Don't you have poor uneducated people in Europe and America? Do you think they are not exploited by people who are rich? , there are some works which the rich don't want to do, so ultimately that work is done by poor . The british French and Americans and islamic rulers have done pogrom of cultures in the name of paganism, crusades, jihad in last 2000yrs and are the ideal free society now after looting the entire world and they want everyone to forget the past atrocities and this fellow is going and licking the ---- of these abrahmic forces . When you compare the atrocities committed by Christian and islamic forces in name of religion, is the caste system an iota which can be corrected if fools like this fellow work towards it instead of critisizing? This fellow instead of critisizing the caste system should talk about exploitation but after going abroad is a opportunist pawn playing in the hands of abrahmic agenda he should have used his energy in removing vices in indian society . He should have been respected if he had stayed in India and worked towards removing all the exploitation of the poor instead of playing in the hands of Christianity / Islamic agenda. Is Dr suraj biased? Is Dr Suraj not neutral? The upper caste does not have reservation though you find them in high posts. Is it because of their hard work and value for knowledge? Has this fool misunderstood exploitation and keeps ranting discrimination? You go to any part of the world there is exploitation of weak and have nots by those who have , so will he tell there is discrimination in all the world? Ask him who has funded reservations in education and jobs of dalits which they are proud to call themselves as dalits ? As per vedas is a sudra a lazy uneducated bad decision maker, so any one with above quality is a sudra and will he not be exploited by the some learned people in the society ?
FH really roasted religions in all forms in the due saga, he also showed some disdain about constitutionalism for he believed state could not handle vastly dynamic realities with “dead” texts, which all made me feel he was pretty liberal maybe somewhat anarchic.
Not true he showed a dangerous figurehead that didn't have respect for constitution
Ruth Ben-Ghiat is a superb writer and speaker. This interview of her was one of her best I have seen due to the expert questioning. The book "Strongman" helped me understand in a very direct way not only why America is in this very difficult situation, but how this situation has arisen and what continues to drive it.
This joker doesn't even know what caste system is. He's just peddling the lies that the european perpetrators fed to the !d!ots like him. Go find out about the Spanish and Portuguese Casta System and you will know how they superimposed their discrimination on top of the much more scientific Varna Vyavastha that is totally merit based. Stop listening to such poison sellers. #ews #saynotoreservations #castasystem vs #castesystem vs #VarnaVyavastha
This has clarified the origins of Dune in FH's mind for me. Thank you.
It’s Scamdemic political virus ✔️
is this on foreign policy, or a black and brown thing
Ho I', not all white, quarter red
Black and brown black and brow, black and brown what about white, black and brown
So authoritarians tend to be narcissists but narcissists are often not authoritarians. She mentioned that these autocrats tend to strike out when folks try to take them away from the offices to which they cling. I had an epiphany and realized that is the exact same mindset and behavior that one sees with domestic abusers (usually men) who seek to possess, control, confine, and isolate their mates and attack them violently if they try to get out of the relationship. The relationship between autocrat and public is much like that between the domestic abuser and the usually woman whom he holds captive.
It's specifically malignant narcissists. It's not normal narcissism, it has high sociopathy. Pretty much a very narcissistic psychopath, because they are sadistic. Every autocrat shares that personality. I looked at social worker opinion on that a while back, and it's a consensus view. And you are right basically, sociopaths and malignant narcissists are domestic abusers.
Interesting analogy. Thank you
Linsey You speak Eloquently I listened for a bit you sounded very studied in Corporate policies and Mr Gates Philanthropy I'm proud of my Daughter 😊
Ruth B-G's Strongman analysis is a bunch of cherry-picked armchair psychology psychobabble. Feeling as though the target of a "Witch hunt" is a trait, but Clintons with their "vast right wing conspiracy" don't fall in her totalitarian orbit. "Sexually abusive" is another trait, but again...no Clinton adds to her naughty list. "Family involvement" yet another trait...Hillary pushing national healthcare while Bill was prez still doesn't register them as tyrannical either. What gives? What gives is that her thesis is complete utter garbage. Bottom line...all the modern day Horst Wessels (aka George Floyd and similar), the street mob violence (aka antifa/BLM), the book burning (aka cancel culture on social media and elsewhere)...these are all almost exclusively left wing phenomena with key members of said parties having been regular visitors to the Obama White House. Mao, Mussolini, Hitler, and similar all for years if not over a decade well before they came to power were community organizers. Go figure!
Strategic ignorance is very interesting. Perfect for the political/managerial class. McGoey sees good intentions. Probably only wrong point throughout. Gates is a monopolist, one of the most successful in human history; he is playing on a different level.
Excellent poli sci background breakdown. Yes, Brian Herbert completed Dune 7. Using the original notes. A worthy end ? That connects to the prequels ...
This is the reality of Casteism in India. 1)ua-cam.com/video/bJLKqPPCtN8/v-deo.html 2)ua-cam.com/video/in5gjuWPAvg/v-deo.html 3)ua-cam.com/video/P8idvu5zJ8c/v-deo.html
Excellent talk, this is the first time I got attached into a talk in this format, huge work, i've seen the movies, both the 80's film and this new one, i think probably that's why this came to me, it remind me inmensly to the middle east and colonialist dilemas more than to indigenous groups, but im inmensly greatfull for this sneak peak of reality and the backround of the author. I as a mayor in IR studies and politics got to extend some of my perspective with this, I am going to try to make contact with this proffessor eventually, great work.
Both Paul and Duke Leto are described as having "olive" skin in the book, for whatever that is worth. Moreover, Paul Atredies isn't the hero of the Dune. To the degree that there is any hero, it is Duncan Idaho and Murbella.
Yeah exactly listening to dumb people treat it as just another shallow book is frustrating!! In children of dune Leto quotes a French cartoon I was able to find it from like 1580 it was real not shallow writing!! Lol
All nations should be wary of the effects of religious agents operating within and without their borders. It was Jesuits who inspired the Taiping rebels in China during the 1830s to 1840s, resulting in 10s of millions dead people.
And you know... especially for those born from 9-11-2001... This special generation must learn their history lesson in TRUTH... in 20 years I will be 96 going on 97... how old will you be... and will be always standing up for truth..✍️🔥😃🎺🎺🐇🐇🎹🎹🎶🎶🇺🇸🥾🥾🐓💩🔥🔥🔥🔥🥾🥾👿🔥🔥🔥🔥✍️😊🤚🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🇺🇸🏠❤️💎☝️
What the hell was Star Trek all about also these globe trekkers going around the Earth advertising other people's countries not yet taken by billionaire dogs⛷️🤺🏇
Merci beaucoup, Mon. Daniel Immerwahr. Much food for thought. And I do have time for a complete re-read before Mon. Denis Villeneuve's version arrives in theaters. I read DUNE at age 15. It burst on me like a bomb, and I say that as a person who had already been ravished by Tolstoy. I was also in Arizona--so far north it was mostly the southern Utah canyonlands. So IMAGINE being surrounded by the vermillion cliffs, the sage plains, the drifts of dunes that changed every time a storm came through, and you may understand why, for the rest of my life, whenever I have been marooned somewhere above the Mason-Dixon line & freezing during winter--DUNE was always there to send me into the cocoon of warmth I craved. Books change every time we read them--because we, the readers, have changed. The nice thing about DUNE (the first book particularly) is that, like a good symphony or a Van Gogh or any film by Wong Kar-Wai, there is always more to discover. I am sure that Frank and Beverly are happy, wherever they are beyond the Rainbow Bridge.
This is a really great talk. Thanks for posting it. :-)
There are only two categories in world . .. Haves and have nots
The haves have it because of caste and the have nots don’t have it only because of caste
Dude they have free donation in temple because of varn vyavastha which they have other don't have because they don't take donation by running relgion business understand
Hats off to your presentation.... Good wishes on your journey
Keep in mind that those 2,000 odd pages span some 35,000 years. Side note: the theme of a noble and righteous cause descending into corruption through the greed of the religious/state bureaucracy is a little prophetic when applied to today.
Not enough fingers and toes to count how many times I've read the whole series.
fishdude666ify: I'm with you, dude!
Very interesting lecture. Is there any evidence you are aware of to suggest that Herbert was familiar with either MacKinder (the father of geopolitical theory) or von Clausewitz? I mention the latter as on a recent re-read I was struck by a series of triadic power relationships (e.g. the Landsraat, the Emperor and the Navigation Guild, but also the interrelations between Houses Corrino, Atreides and Harkonnen, and in terms of the various enhancements and abilities the spice brings, the Mentats, Bene Gesserit and the Guild Navigators) the text contains.
bluefarie10: THAT is a very interesting question. I had always interpreted the "triangular" nature of so many of the forces as being either 1) a backhanded reference to the Triune God embraced by many Christians, or 2) basic strategic narrowing for plot purposes (possibly based on history) because triangles are notoriously tricky--ever been in one? The interpersonal, very small-scale triangle is usually the only type people have ever experienced personally. I do not recall it being terribly pleasant.
