This song is a ‘One last love song’ of the band before they divide next year, and the vocalist he was a super fan of Godzilla and ultaman, they came to Toho studio Japan for shooting. Glade to see you reaction ❤
You are The first girl who don't Say Kimoy😂
I guess now we now what the fox says.
Cool review. Thanks for breaking down the lyrics for us Kiki.
Hola kiki
Hello Kiki. If you like traditional Japanese music mixed with modern rock, then I strongly suggest the song "Gion-Cho" (祇園町) by Band Maiko. It is a beautiful music video about the old town and is sung in the Kyoto dialect. Band-Maiko is a side project of Band-Maid, who is a world famous all-female hard rock band out of Tokyo. Band-Maid has been together with the same members for 11 years, and I have been fortunate to see 3 of their okyujis here in the US during their world tours. Band-Maid is NOT an idol band. They are next-level musicians. Edit: Here is the link to 祇園町 if you like ua-cam.com/video/umSt7oMUMcs/v-deo.html While not as large as Babymetal's, Band-Maid has a good and dedicated UA-cam fan base that will welcome you with open arms. Band-maid's management is not known for strikes.
I love the people of Japan! Your strength and resilience are legendary and I salute you for such! The ladies of Babymetal are beautiful ambassadors for Japan and I love them so much. Thank you for your interpretation of the lyrics. I greatly appreciate your perspective.
Babymetal is a priceless kawaii band. I love them so much! The backing band here is called Babybones but in later years the Kami band performs with them and they are tremendously talented musicians. Su-metal is the lead singer with Moa-metal and Yui-metal are dancers and provide vocal calls. Their energy is so intense!🥰❤🦊🦊🦊❤🥰 Thank you Kiki for the analysis of the lyrics. You provide a service that is extremely helpful for your English speaking audience. I have subscribed!
Thank you for the analysis. I don't speak or read Japanese but any English translations that accompany native text are always welcome. I love your breakdown of the lyrics! I understand that translation into English presents problems but I greatly appreciate your effort and ability. I have subscribed! Babymetal is so adorable. Try their 2017 live version of Catch Me If You Can. It features the Kami band (east) and they are incredible! The four musicians always follow the same pattern of individual solos before Su, Moa, and Yui appear. I would also suggest trying the all female Japanese band Band-Maid. They are more of a rock and roll/metal band that I love as much as Babymetal. Try Band-Maid's song "Thrill" then their live performances like "Onset" or "Domination". Both bands are the best in the world! Band-Maid also parodies themselves on April Fools Day (April 1st) as Band-Maiko. Try their song Secret Maiko Lips. I anxiously await your reactions to all of the above.
Babymetal is an international treasure! I adore them so much. This is the first time I have seen this early video. Try a more recent version for comparison. Babymetal and Band Maid are my favorite Japanese bands.🥰 for the fox god 🦊🤘
🍅💀🍅 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼 Sore ! Sore ! Sore ! SoreSoreSoreSore!! !!!
It's always interesting for me to hear a Japanese person talk about the lyrics of this song, as they have a particularly Japanese flair, if that makes sense.
I think you would enjoy reacting to onedari daisakusen from black babymetal which is just yui and moa no su🦊✌️
Su belts out notes effortlessly as she has always been a loud singer. She once said that she would get scolded at home by her parents for always singing so loud. 😂
3:45 lol, i've never been to japan, only watched two anime series (shorter ones, monster and steins; gate) in my life but first time i listened to this i also got that part was from the sakura song cause i listened to traditional japanese songs before. the power of music (and also thanks to internet) sometimes teach you a lot about other cultures.
Nice reaction and walk through - and yes you really do need to see a live performance of this song. There are a couple of really good recent performances at PIA Arena in April 2023 and at Legend MM in March 2024.
Lovely reaction. 'Megitsune' is one of their most loved songs and possibly exhibits their Japanese origins better than any other with the use of traditional instruments in the intro (the people in the video were only pretending to play of course) and, as you immediately recognised, their use of the melody from 'Sakura Sakura' in the breakdown.
Thanks for the information. Youre the best!
Great discussion and deep dive! As a non-Japanese speaker, I’ve spent a lot of time and research to not try to understand the meaning, and also some of the cultural references of Babymetal lyrics. The more I delve into it, the more I appreciate the elegance, intelligence, and the meaning to their lyrics! 🤘🦊
The shamisens are just for visual effect, but they aren't played live or in the studio audio, which is done with regular rock and metal instruments, along with a digital backing track for the electronic sounds in the background. At the time this was filmed, I believe lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) was around 15 years old. She is currently 26 (she'll turn 27 on December 20th), so as you can imagine, she sounds even more amazing now!
Thanks Niki great reaction I have been a big fan of Babymetal from the days of Sakura Gakuin . Please do more
Hard to explain matsuri, wasshoi, sore, soya to non-Japanese. Nice recap.
Thanks Kiki! As a westerner who doesn't speak Japanese, I love your breakdown of the lyrics. The translations don't always seem to make sense. As much as I love Babymetal, may I also suggest another Japanese group called Band Maid. They are more hard rock than metal. Their lyricist has a way with her words that again auto-translate sometimes isn't very clear. Please check out their song "Forbidden Tale" This band also has an alter-ego called Band Maiko, where they wear maiko garb and use the geisha dialect with modern instruments mixed with traditional ones.
Kiki please check out Lady Baby Nippon Manju.
Metal is all based on. Minor Scales. Modes and tonslity.
Yes those are Shamisen but they aren't actually playing... it is pretended for the video....but you should watch Wagakki Band Homura +Akatsuki No Ito... they have both Shamisen and Koto... You'll love it.
Great reaction, i would also like to recommend one of my favorites "Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of metal gods intro)"
Kon kon is a fox sound? That makes sense. Fubuki the Fox Vtuber has a song Konkon Beats. I think Japanese has about 2000 more onomatopoeia than English ;)
Could you do a video discussing Japanese Idol culture?
"Kitsune, Kitsune, watashi wa Megitsune". 🦊
Nice reaction! One of my favorite songs.
ua-cam.com/video/IShPSxAeyfE/v-deo.html 【English sub on❗️】Moa metal solo🔥
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this video, it's one of my favorite babymetal songs 🦊✌️
"Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi"!!! You really need to watch "Metali" by Babymetal!! It is all about Festivals and Hyottoko masks!! LoL!! Put your Kitsune UP!!
"Maidens should not be Underestimated"!! Put your Kitsune UP!!
I so enjoy your reaction and especially the in depth explanation you add to it. I have a couple playlists of them. One of them has BabyMetal themselves commenting on this song and a bit of behind the scenes from them. I'd send the URL but I've had my comments taken down for that reason and so, you're welcome to have a look as they are public. I was having a bit of a laugh when you mentioned being scared of the foxes in the background because i do recall from their video that it was Moa and Yui in the background wearing the masks at those moments lol
Thank You 🦊 .
Yes that breakdown part comes from the folk song Sakura Sakura. It proves the old heavy metal saying, everything is metal if you play it heavy enough. And so they did. You need to react to one of their other early songs, IINE. That is also based on a melody from a folk song... I wonder if you recognize it.
The video was filmed at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. It has become a bit of a pilgrimage destination for Babymetal fans from around the world.
Thank You 🦊 .

Great information. Megitsune is a great song all around and love the meaning of the lyrics, it is ranked one of Babymetal's best songs. They also have a very traditional Matsuri style song that they released last year called "Metali!"
Love the reaction do headbanger next!!! Make sure to do live
Nice one! Megitsune is definitely an amazing classic and a very powerful song, especially for their age when it was released in 2013! You should absolutely check out a live version, perhaps a very recent one to see the “grown up” Babymetal do this song live - Official Live BluRay - Legend 43 from Mar 2024. Another suggestion: Akatsuki - Budokan 2014. 🤘🦊
Excellent! I really appreciate this kind of breakdowns. "Megitsune" is one of my very top favorite songs. it was composed by Norikazu Nakayama (aka Norimetal), my favorite BABYMETAL songwriter. It was arranged by Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal). He needed up to 36 demos until Kobametal (Kei Kobayashi, their producer) was 100% happy with the final product. Lyrics are by Miki Watanabe and Nakayama himself. In my opinion, this song and the music video itself are a masterpiece. 🤘🦊
Yuyoyuppe also arranged Pardon Me by Hanabie. It has the same synthetic shamisen sound. I always like the shamisen.
@@Dragon-Believer, in Megitsune I hear koto rather than shamisen (as featured in Metali!!).
Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ When Su-metal pulls out the tanto and says: "Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo.", that's often translated as "Maidens… should not be underestimated." It's also a line said by a gangster's daughter in the film 'Kiryu-in Hanako no Shogai' (1982), by actress Masako Natsume. It was released in the USA as 'Onimasa'. About this line: "Inishie no otome-tachi yo, karisome no yume ni odoru." This can be translated as: "Ancient maidens, you dance in the transient dream." In the music video, the performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director and choreographer. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
The "maidens should not be underestimated" isn't a great translation. It's another one of those situations where they're clearly trying to provide a PG version of the meaning. In the film it's translated as "don't f with me" and I think that's a much better translation because when she says it in the film she's protecting her husband's ashes from her in laws from taking them. They attempt to take them and she unsheaths her knife and says the line to let them know how far she'll go to protect his ashes.
@@russellward4624 That's how Du-Metal has it on his Japanese/English translation site. He's a naive speaker, born and living in Japan. Duane Metal goes on for about twelve and a half minutes just for this line in his 'Learning Japanese with BABYMETAL' site and has it as 'If you lick me (look down on me) that's no good."
