The important thing about the "A" sizing system is that the aspect ratio between the sides is 1:sq root of 2 (approximately 1.414). This means that when you halve it, or double it, the proportions remain exactly the same, making it much easier to scale up or down.

Where I used to work, we had recurring problems due to people mistakenly loading A4 paper (which we had for fax machines) in the printers, which were default set for Letter size. This would cause some printers to stop working, without a reason being indicated.

I love paper. There's so many different types of paper worth becoming familiar with. The biggest challenge is deciding what to print or write onto the paper.
