In an attempt to thicken up my ryegrass lawn I decided to do a light scarify and overseed and a light topdress. It started off well but unfortunately a bit of disease got hold in the lawn and resulted in a bit of damage and some set backs. In this video I go over the process and repair the bare spots caused by the disease and overview of my overseeding process. Enquiries - kiwilawnie@gmail.com

Beautiful lawn brother, your yard looking amazing. Hope you’ve had a great Xmas
Thanks bro it's not too bad but a few works ons haha!! Same to you mate hope you had a good one
The issue I have with this and the scotts spreader ( same one different name ) is that the hollow wheels tend to trap the fertilizer and create stripes or burns.
That is a good point actually I will keep an eye on that as I continue to use the spreader and see if it becomes an issue. Thanks for watching
edger wheel sposed to be on the bricks ,not bouncing along grass 😅
Hahaha yea mate ideally!!!!
I just bort one of these couple weeks back ..great edges 👍
that the only reason for that mower lol?
Yea lol pretty much
You should consider the Webb WEH12R, its greate for small lawns and leaves greate stripes. Look up my short videos, i have a small rye grass lawn i use the Webb on it.
Hi mate I will check out your videos! I have seen those Webb mowers before I'm honestly not sure how available they are here but I will check it out. They do seem like they would be perfect for my lawns haha.
Beautiful lawn my bro 💚 Im moving to a new house in a couple of weeks that has Kikuyu so hopefully its easier to have it looking good ,because right now im reseeding my rye all the time because my dog keeps killing it haha. Merry Christmas and Happy New year 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
Thanks mate! The kikuyu should be a bit better for you with a dog I would say! Dogs and lawns never go well together haha. Same to you mate thanks for being part of the channel!
Awesome work. Making me miss working on lawns mate! Merry Christmas Kiwi Lawnie, and congrats on the new addition to the family too! Excited for your next video update all the way from Germany 💚
Wow mate what a surprise to get a comment from you haha! Thanks mate! Hope you are doing well over there!
what's the best way to get rid of weed patches?
Weeds in your lawn? Depends on the type of lawn you have and what weeds you have really. I would recommend identifying them and then you can find a suitable product
Excellent idea. I had one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments while watching. Good work mate.
Haha thanks mate it works really well!
This needs to be posted in the Nzla group. Im sure people will love this lawn transformation. Good job.
Haha thanks bro! I did think about sharing it as people might be interested but I try not to spam advertise my channel in the group too much lol. I can't stop other people from sharing it around though🤣🤣
The best safety boots bro 😂
Safety first at Kiwi Lawnie HQ 🤣👍
Great xmas gift for the people waiting for weeks. Love it.
Haha yeah mate got there in the end!
Would i have to compact the topsoil over the seeds or should it be ok? Also thanks for the help and should i worry about pets ingesting anything during the lawn killing process at the start?
Hi mate! Some people swear by rolling after seed and topdress. I have never bothered and haven't had any issues. I think it's a personal preference thing haha. Generally once the lawn is dry after spraying it will be safe but I would recommend reading the label thoroughly on whichever product you are using as all the information will be on there.
Thanks for the help mate I hope you reach 1 thousand subscribers soon, have a great day
@DAMNKI6345 Haha I hit 1000 today mate! Let me know how you get on and hit me up if you need any more help :)
@KiwiLawnie congrats on reaching 1000 subs I'll make sure to ask you if I have any questions you've been extremely helpful
How did it go? I have the same problem with my Kikuyu lawn in summer with Paspalum and summer grass. I’m giving barricade a go to stop it. Left it too late this year but hopefully it will sort things out for next season.
Haha I think it has definitely helped prevent some but I might have been too late with my spray cause I still have some paspalum or perhaps it survived all winter and was still in there. Nasty stuff haha
Gee that's grown in nicely. I love myself a nice couch lawn. Goes to show you how well it can self repair it self.
Thanks mate yea I'm a big fan of couch haha
Is that a screwdriver microphone? 😂
It's a hand weeder mate!!
looks mint now it has grown in!
Lawn is mint meanwhile still waiting for gta 6, guess I won this time Rockstar
Nice video , Every time you upload I tell myself I need to do my lawn then a look at it and it overwhelms me. No idea where to start.
Thanks mate! Where in NZ are you? Send me email kiwilawnie@gmail.com I'll try help you
Well done you smashed it as looks fantastic now
Smashed it out the park
How could you forget the 🐜 🤣
Hey mate, great video. I’ve got the same Ryobi scarifier but only used to Reno my kikuyu, I now have ryegrass in my front lawn and it’s got quite a bit of dead brown material. Was wondering if you used the thick scarifying blades or the thin dethatching prongs , I bought the later as an attachment and it’s less intrusive in the lawn. Cheers
Looks great bro……Throw some iron in the next batch and see how green it will go
Haha yea mate that's an old video unfortunately that lawn doesn't look like that anymore🤣but definitely going to be testing out some iron on my rye lawn👍👍 thanks mate!
Looking good! There’s two options I see; plane it high to low with a slope. Or stepped, cutting a piece out. Lawns looking good, been curious to see how this would go
Thanks for your comment mate! I think I will end up sloping it probably just take the timber out and dig the soil down lower and place timber back in I think it will be the best overall look!!! Hope you enjoy the progress of this lawn growing in thanks mate!
Could you maybe put some sand down on that bit of grass to raise the level of the grass to be flush with the timber? Being couch it will fill in real quick as you already know
I did consider raising it up mate! But then I'd have a bit of a lip/step between lawn and driveway which I'm not sure about!
Slope it down
Seems to be vibe I am getting haha! Thanks mate!
slope the timber
Another one for the slope the timber haha thanks mate!!
Ok so you have a few options here. Option 1 dont be lazy and just use the weedeater....😂 Option 2 ( my suggestion) dig in the timber to match the driveway level. Will limit what you can do for the garden edge though. Option 3 remove garden and have couch right through to the footpath 😊😊😊
Unfortunately option 3 got shot down by the boss of the house. Option 2 seems to be the general consensus among the viewers. Option 1 sounds unreasonable to me. Thanks for your input pal
looks a bit fiddly to cut the timber, can you just dig it down at the driveway end so it matches the slope of the lawn or will the wood become worm food
Hi Alex Cheddar yes I would take out the timber and dig more dirt out so I can lower it and then re peg it back in! :)
Crazy how good that has filled in! Very bumpy tho, what u gona do about that?
Yea it's almost done mate haha! A good scalp and renovation will sort out the bumps!
Couch looks great 👍 get your builder mate to plane down the edge timber to lawn level
A lot of material to remove lol
Yeah slope the edge down. I made that mistake putting edging around the lawn. I put a couple in level but then realised it should be following the terrain for a mowing strip, not level.
Yeah man that's what I am leaning towards doing for sure
Hey I just did a seed 2 weeks ago but looking quite patchy and I'm wanting to do a nother re-seed now. How do you recommend I do this? (do I patch repair the bare spots?)
Hi mate if you just have some small areas that are a bit thin I would just first make sure the soil is not too hard if it is compacted loosen lightly with a rake or something to try and get the top of the soil a bit fluffy and grooved so the seed can settle in, then just spread your seed on top by hand. Then I would cover the seed with some kind of soil material like potting mix, lawn soil, sand whatever you have and keep it watered as per normal seeding and it should work well. If the whole lawn is generally thin I would just overseed the whole lawn and then topdress the areas you think are bare. Hope that helps let me know if you have any more questions and how you get on thanks mate!
@KiwiLawnie legend thank you, will give that a try
@KiwiLawnie p.s. mean lawn btw
@@evolun Haha thanks mate!
Looking good man that's also a nice mower idk if they sell them in the USA
Yeah man I am a big fan of the mower my understanding is that ryobi doesn't make them anymore. I think sunjoe is very similar from what I've seen online
Looking good as always 👍
Thanks mate!!
Looking great already and nice forward strategy to improve further 👏👍
Yup let's see if the plan goes to plan lol
Mate… looking mint. What are those sprinkler heads you are using?
Thanks bro! They are MP Rotators. I have a video on my channel from when I installed the system if you wanna check it out cheers mate!
@@KiwiLawnieI should have waited about 10 mins before posting that comment, before I stumbled onto your other video 😂😂😂
Haha nice one mate hopefully you found the video useful
Where in nz do you live bro ? Quite enjoy your content
Hey thanks mate!! I'm in Auckland😁👍
Hi, awesome Reno mate. I got my Cyclone upgraded and thanks to you I've picked up some cool tips. You have a nice, easy channel to watch and funny. What's your budget for this, if you don't mind me asking?
Hey thanks so much that's awesome feedback glad you enjoy the videos haha!! Not sure exactly how much but approx $45 for the seed/fert. The sand/soil mix approx $80. Not much $ for the spray as the rates are so low. Overall it's not much really, assuming you already have some equipment. Cost a lot more if you bought all the equipment. Of course you could scarify by hand etc if you were really keen lol.
Fantastic reno! Probably could have done with another pass or 2 with the scarifier?? 🤣
Yeah I still had 3 bars left on my batteries so I really should have put more effort in haha
big reno
Easy to do a lot of operations when you have small lawns like me haha
@ small lawn, big effort
Looking forward to the update, Simon 😂
Me too Ernie haha
Why hasn't the cylinder mower come until now!!! More content with that please 🙏 love the reno, cant wait to see the results
Haha I was wondering if someone would mention that! To be honest it wasn't working 100% and I am perfectly happy with the cut I was getting with the Ryobi! But now that I have my couch lawn down properly and eventually the front I will be putting the lawnmaster to use!
@KiwiLawnie yay!!!!
Very nice 👌 If you dont get any heavy rain or something, then thats gona turn out perfect! Back in Norway the winter just started, so my Ryegrass lawn have snow on it now 😢
Thanks buddy! I am lucky I don't have to deal with snow!
Wow now that's a reno for sure - look forward to seeing the result by end of month 🤩
It will be glorious
I have no doubt it will 👌
Wow I've never seen a baby sprinkler be born before 🙏
Yup its a miracle isn't it
Growing faster than the couch lawn
@@CaffeineCrutch Haha you are harsh mate the couch lawn is pumping!!
Nice intro and very wise to check irrigation before reno works👌
Smart cookie I am
Clearly 😁
lawn came up nicely after reno
I haven't done the reno yet mate!
The dye is such a good idea.
Bro this is mean! What’s ur soil type? New sub from Palmy north.
Haha thanks mate! Welcome to my videos!! My ryegrass lawn I rebuilt from scratch and used topsoil/lawn mix combo on it. My couch lawn I did a bit of rotary hoeing in there and mixed in some lawn mix and compost into the existing soil and the front is just whatever clay based junk was existing haha
