The Imperfect Birder - Stands for the love and joy of birds is one that is not about perfection, but a lifelong relationship.
Dedicated to birds, bird watching and the love and passion of finding different species that occur and pass through my patch.
As a 'patch birder' each year I try and find as many species as possible each year.
I'm on the lookout at all times to witness things I've never seen, seeking every opportunity to learn something new.
I want to impart my knowledge accumulated over 40 years and hope to offer tips on ;
Identification of everything that shows up
Fieldcraft
Where to find them in different habitats
What can be found at various times of the year
Pointers on how to learn calls and songs
Passage species and fly overs
Ones that got away
Tutorials on different groups
Best finds and many other stories
If you share my passion, do subscribe and I look forward to connecting with you.

Black Tailed Godwits 2024
I missed the first bird of the year yesterday by 3 minutes and came away very frustrated. So to open the viewing flap on the hide at the very late time of 07:50, I was so delighted to find this group of 5.
Like yesterday's single, they didn't stick around long either

Cool
Awesome🎉
How do you tell the difference between a lesser black-backed gull and yellow-legged gull? They both have yellow legs and look very similar.
It's a bit complicated, depends on age - adult YL's are not as dark grey, their legs are not vivid yellow, YL's are generally bigger, have a much heavier bill and are longer legged. In 1st winter YL's that big bill is generally black and the face is paler, but often has an obvious dark smudge around the eye. the wing feathers are where it get's complicated, but if the tertials are deep chocolate with a subtle pale edge, which can be worn away. It takes practice and there are lot's more features to see, but if you get a good mix of larger gulls, or if you can visit Cromer in Norfolk, then you can practice with juvenile birds fresh arrived in August, plus Caspian too. Have fun
They're beautiful
so better rock doves?
Beautiful
So jealous. Yet to catch them.
Thanks for this, saw one today making this call which I've never heard before, had to verify
no comments let me fix this
Nice. Stupid question but the corvid on the post ? Rook? Look quite large.
Forgive me, I wasn't even paying attention, at a glance I think it's probably Carrion Crow, but don't hold me to it I've got to dash
Great spot
It sure is
Only had a couple of sightings of this wonderful bird. Love them.
Many thanks, me too
'me too' me too' I was going to say Coal Tit!
100% Utah. Just in case you're wondering, that's a line from the 1991 movie 'Point Break'
Nice little movie. Thanks for the beautiful sharing. Great footage. Wish you a pleasant weekend. Kind regards, Knut.
Many thanks
My pleasure. 😃
Still counts!
You're very generous
Nothing about a12 digiscope????
From 1:14 I show the zooming on my new A12 thru the scope, so am I missing something?
Sorry, I thought you said s20

thanks
You are welcome!
To my ears the first note or two of a blackcaps song tend to be a bit scratchy, uncertain of pitch, whereas the garden warbler thinks of the note before it starts (I am a choir trainer).
Agreed
Thank you for a clear and precise comparison
Pleased you found my video and found it useful
It’s a female mallard?
Sorry, it's a Teal
@@frasercottington5828 can’t win ‘em all. 👍🏻
It’s a tree
So close, have another stab at it
Congratulation, my friend. I wish you the best and success. Cheers, my friend.
Thank you very much!
Cool video
Thank you very much, I really like it too, they have done so well this year
I'm pretty good on bird song ID but struggle between Blackcap and a Garden Warbler
I hope that my video takes you even one step nearer to separating them
9like very nice sharing🛑💖🛑👍🛑👍
Thank you for watching
6like💖👍💖👍💖👍
Look but be with care and full offff ,mind fully 😮😅😊
But how!? It was hide oooohhhh 😮😅😊
Does the bird hurt his legs?
Not at all, I'd say all waders can sit easily, after all they all sit on nests
Wow, there are so many things here, Fraser. My ability to ID the shore birds still limit. But thank you for the incredible video. Cheers.
My pleasure!
Great
Thanks
Very beautiful, my friend.
Thanks so much
That’s a really good tip, thank you
I'll try to keep them coming

Nice capture!
Thanks, I think Teal display is really amazing and slowed down footage reveals things we would not see otherwise, thanks for watching
Lovely filming!
Thanks, it's a pleasure

Thanks
Nice to see that you got your 70th, and, that is why there is a word in the OED called "coincidence" 🙂 only 30 left pal. Good luck, I'm sure that you can do it. 👍
Cheers, I've got lots of common things to film yet too, just some of them are a bit trickier to film, Rook is always miles away, but I'm just making excuses, I do expect to reach my goal
Yeah lovely shot at the end.. so elusive. Well done👍
We have a lot of the right habitat, but very few birds and they have got harder and harder to see, I never see them do their display into the air, not sure why?
Two house martins fly back to our street from Africa today
I saw a swallow in the field this afternoon when I was walking! It means spring is here.
I wish it did in UK, it's still 5 degrees
I'll tell you what's not to like about a nuthatch...I've never seen one with my own eyes or filmed one yet. Nice footage Fraser. 👍 Handsome birds too.
Indeed they are
Lovely capture Fraser. 👍
It seems a little bit earlier to see the sand martins back to their nests here in UK?
This is a typical date for us, in fact 18th and earlier have been recorded over the 42 years I have visited my patch
Sometimes Pied wagtails came to my garden! Liked and thank you!
So nice of you
