Jason DePue
Jason DePue is a member of the GRAMMY Award-winning Philadelphia Orchestra. A Curtis Institute of Music graduate, he has an active violin studio, teaching regularly since 1998. His students enjoy full tuition scholarships to top music schools such as Juilliard and Starling Scholarship opportunities, and many enjoy successful careers as independent performing musicians and teachers in their own right.
Active as a violinist, violist, and mandolinist, Jason continues to engage in musical collaborations ranging from chamber music to unique collaborations. In addition to his duties as a section violinist, he's known for having done musical projects such as recitals of the complete Paganini Caprices and Bach Sonatas and Partitas (see below on his UA-cam page). On occasion, he also concertizes with The DePue Brothers Band. For one of the Philadelphia Orchestra's Opening Night Galas, The DePue Brothers Band was honored to be guests in which four original arrangements of Jason's were premiered. His newer album, “Spanish Essentials for Violin and Piano,” is now available. In leadership roles, Jason was concertmaster of the New York String Seminar under Jamie Laredo, the Symphony Orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music under Otto-Werner Mueller, the Verbier Festival Orchestra of Switzerland, and the Music Symphony Festival Orchestra in Chautauqua, NY.
Jason attended the Isaac Stern Workshop at Carnegie Hall, Jerusalem Music Encounters in Israel, the Steans Institute at Ravinia, the La Jolla, Kingston, Sarasota, Chautauqua, Encore, and St. Barth's chamber music festivals. He has soloed with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Cleveland Philharmonic, Columbus, Toledo, Lima, and Springfield Symphonies; the Chautauqua Youth (NY), and WYSO (Interlochen) orchestras, among others.
Jason DePue was born and raised in Bowling Green, Ohio. He is grateful to be a protege of the following four violin teachers: Boris Brant (from 1981-86; documentation on Mr. Brant is in the book "Teaching Genius: Dorothy DeLay and the Making of a Musician"), Vasile Beluska (from 1986-1995; former Professor of Violin at Bowling Green State University and participant in the original Jascha Heifetz masterclasses with Heifetz himself), David Cerone (from 1995-2000; Founder of Encore School for Strings), and William de Pasquale from 2000-2012; former 2nd Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra).
Jason DePue plays on a beautiful French violin by Charles Francois Gand, France, ca 1825.

Here's a live video performance of Bach's a minor Fuga for Solo Violin from his Sonata No. 2. Inasmuch as this is an update to my interpretation of Bach’s a minor Fuga, it is also a tribute to those violinists whose renditions I hold in the highest esteem. To say that “taking on Bach’s violin works is challenging” is truly an understatement. I’d like to think since my live rendition in 2002, I’...

It’s the way player, instrument and composer all come together to create a mesmerizing gesture of truth
Hey cool performance.
Love it!!! You play as if you love the Allegro, as many of us do.
❤🎻😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Grateful to have a score video for this, but I think it would be useful to more people if it had the full score and not just the violin part.
❤😔
Perfectly!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience! I’m really grateful to you.
cool violin tricks!!
Very interesting i enjoyed watching thank you. 🎶i have just found your channel. 😊have a great day 😊
Your down-to-earth manner is very refreshing.
Beautiful interpretation of a subtle and challenging work. Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words. Best wishes! Jason
Very useful tutoring
love you guys, Rest in Peace Alex.
That Paganini was rather impressive - beautifully in tune, made it sound so easy, which it isn't
Jesus that is one challenging piece
I want to reference this but my stupid stoner mind will forget by practice time😢 i downloaded lol
thank you for this very helpfull.
Hi can you suggest what to do if I have tendinitis on the pinky finger? its basically short one and I always have a pain in the joint even if I don't play but just touch it... and it cant stay round, it falls wd some krkr sound... :( because of that I have to use alternative fingering all the time to minimise the usage of pinky;(( but it is not possible to avoid pinky((
Amazing!
This is beautiful
Absolutely FANTASTIC job, gentlemen! It takes quite a bit of bravery to try and cover this song & you more than did it justice.
I love this!!!
😍 【promosm】
The intonation is spot on but you don't hold back on communicating to the heart. The tone is a pleasure to listen to. There's absolutely no gimmick in your musicianship. I can listen to you playing this piece many times over and never get tired of it. You're the real deal my friend, a great violinist. To be playing like that after all these years, getting better also says a lot about you as an artist. Hope you remember me? Or do I actually have to spell out my name on ewetube lol. I'm glad to see you're doing well buddy. -AC/cellist/Curtis
Genial Genial
Yesss
Very informative!
Hey Jason, how are you doing my friend??? We should play duets some time, maybe a chess game. You'd probably kick my butt now, so maybe not. What's really impressive is that you've kept your intonation after all these years. Very impressive hahaha. Just kidding, my intonation is better than ever. In fact it's impeccable. Good lesson. I'm going to watch it again. Should be useful on the cello. Glad you're doing well :-))))
Damn bro i like this fucking shit...partiture please
lovely
It's really heartwarming to see and hear the 4 of you together. You are magnificent. RIP dear Alex.
Amazing playing as always Jason! Like the camera work and additional angles!
Very nice!!!
Excellent! I knew your father at Michigan State in the early 1960s although he probably would not remember me. (I was a violinist in the MSU Orchestra) We all admired his wonderful talent as a composer. which I gather continued. (I really liked the Serenade on youtube with you playing)
Thanks but there is a problem : no ENOUGH videos of tutorials on your channel :-D you are excellent sir, thanks again !
Very well played Jason!!!
wonderful playing Jason!!
Brilliant! Please make more videos!
awesome!!!!!
