I want to make a natural bird fountain but i worry about diseases and keeping it clean. I know avian flu has spread a lot among the wild bird populations.

So am I. I live in Bethlehem GA and I have been doing the same for the wildlife in my home space. And to my surprise I'm seeing a lot of different forms of life on the property. Thank you for this information. I'm going to purchase some binoculars. I have a large backyard with large water oaks&pine trees. It's so soothing to sit in the yard and observe the critters.

I lived in Tuskegee Alabama for11 yrs and always saw painted buntings year round!!! Has any research been done on migratory birds overwintering in Alabama?

Titanium dioxide is only worth 4000 dollars a ton, and it's toxic to humans. I say don't risk polluting the swamp. I know where 400 billion dollars worth of gold is, that is the figure Clemson University came up with when they did core samples. The people who found it are too old to mine it. So I'm sure they can find something better to mine. My friend has the mining right but he said, he isn't going to mine it. I'm sure he would sale at the right price.

I will watch this together with my 17 year old son who’s a birder. The connection between a diverse planting of native plants and bird-abundance is key. He’s seen it in our yard two days ago when several bluebirds came and ate berries from American holly, red chokeberry and Virginia creeper. Thx for this well-done video on an important subject for our time.

This whole series about peoples' backyards in Georgia is fantastic! Where I live in central Illinois, I got reported to the city because I let a milkweed and a goldenrod grow in my yard. I have yard envy seeing all of these beautiful properties! Well done, Georgia folks! There are no oak trees near my property, and I did have a brood of chickadees fledge. My neighbor's free-range cat killed them almost immediately.

So what can we do about windmills?

I have to respectfully disagree on the bat houses. I installed a small bat house maybe 10 years ago. It only had a few roosting bats the first year or two, which increased to more than 100 over the next few years. I upgraded last year to a larger house with birthing chamber (kept the small house on the back side of the pole), and it already has a good 200 bats roosting in it. Way more than I can count in real time. I have to video them emerging in slow motion and count them from the playback. They just boil out in the evenings. I also have bats roosting in two of my gable vents (in addition to the bats in the two houses). If you build it, they will come. No clue what species they are. The ones in the gable vents appear larger than the ones in the houses. I’m right in the corner of Paulding, Carroll, and Haralson counties. I do have large native plant beds and native tree/shrub plantings, and a pond they dip water from, so lots of beetles and moths.

One of the best things you can do to control feral cats and help the birds.... is to put up an Owl House. Seriously. Owls need homes, too, but so few people think about installing an Owl House on their land. Owls are the sworn enemies of cats and actively hunt the things. If you have feral cats, invite the owls in to dance with them and soon the cats will be gone. It's an amazing thing even if you never see it happen. Look for what owls are in your area and then see about putting in a Owl House or three.

Not such a nice bird when they want to make YOUR house their nesting sight and makes a tons of noise calling a mate and spread bird lice all of the f**king place. Not to mention shitting all over the walk ways statues and cars.
