"Joe MacMillan, man of mystery" - Halt and Catch Fire
Joe plays the game and still has something on the side lol. Dude is always a man of mystery- even through 3 seasons how much do we really know about him? We can only sort through the lies and half-truths.

Joe MacMillan tells off homophobic investor
Переглядів 83 тис.7 років тому
(Just letting y'all know that this video contains homophobic slurs) Ah the 80s- when homophobia ran rampant. Man, the writers really made this guy extra douchey. Joe MacMillan is one of the best characters on television right now and not because he is a good person that's for sure... he is just impossible not to watch. Lee Pace really does a fantastic job with him. He is canonically bisexual an...
"Should I be wearing a party hat?" - Nate and Christina Talk - Kingdom
Переглядів 14 тис.7 років тому
From the first season finale (King Beast, S1EP10). Nate (Nick Jonas) and Christina (Joanna Going) sit down to talk in the thrall of the party after Jay and Ryan have their fights. Mama Christina understands there's a lot going on inside the quiet Nate but even with his mom's reassurance he can't bring himself to tell her anything about his problems (HGH injection, injuries, etc.) or to trust he...
Kingdom - Nate Kulina Comes Out to Jay
Переглядів 1,1 млн7 років тому
Well, more like Jay finds out and Nate kind of just stands there. *Spoilers for Kingdom: a lot of this is build up to what happens. Actual confrontation starts at 8:36. Nate Kulina (played by Nick Jonas) is a young MMA fighter who happens to be gay. He's a pretty compelling character in himself and I'm happy that his character's struggles did not revolve around simply being gay as some earlier ...

Whyyyyy did he have to die. A macho gay, confident in his own skin and then the writers destroy this storyline and turn it into a cliche

The Nate story arc disgusts me. He finally meets someone and settles down, but when (SPOILER ALERT) he gets killed, his family and everyone in the boxing club (and the show runners) writes off any mourning his partner might feeli - he does not even appear at the funeral with the family. It was the stereotypical "Dead fag, nothing more to say". It was a perfect time for the family (and showrunners) to validate the relationship, but they don't. And it felt intentional. Too bad too, because the series was otherwise among my favourites (and it gave us Frank Grillo)

Such a great show , Lee Pace has grown into a very deep , emotional and infectious to watch actor. Not all his roles suit him but the ones that do , you can really feel them.

grown into? i would argue he always has been. his first movie role was in soldier's girl (2003) and that was an incredibly deep, emotional, and infectious to watch performance. if there's roles where you weren't feeling that, i'd blame the writing or directing. he kills it consistently.

It was at 2:12 that I understood how good of an actor Lee Pace actually is. From good willed to darkness in around 2 seconds just with a look and a head drop. Fucking unreal. Last time I've seen something like that was when Christopher Reeve transformed into Superman in front of me.

9:55 "it's your life and it's not for me to say anything". Therein lies the problem because we should speak up and say something but most people don't even understand why it's wrong in the first place, therefore they don't really have much to say.

My goodness. Rewatching all these scenes with the additional context learned toward the end of the episode gives every line of dialogue like, three more layers of depth. What I initially thought to be Joe sucking up in the phone-call scene, I now see as some rare, actual tenderness from him (and also a bit of sucking up). Now I understand the hurt in Simon's eyes when Joe goes straight to business when they meet. "I don't have time to waste" has a brutal new meaning. "What's with the girl?" "Is that what this is about?" Joe doesn't understand that Simon's entire purpose in taking on this work was to re-connect and make amends while he still could, and that effort is being derailed, and it hurts. Even the way Simon tries to warn Cameron about the potential for Joe to become bored of her now reads differently, as the bitter experience of a man faced with his own mortality, who understands the true value of his time and where he chooses to spend his affections. "You know what I longed for? The day when we would get to work together. When we finally had something that would be worthy of you." "And 'that thing' is a portable IBM clone?" Joe has reduced the entirety of their time together to a business goal, and that has to hurt Simon so badly when to him, 'the thing' has always been love. And I love the way Simon calls Joe out about still wondering whether he'll do the case. It's such a real little detail, that even in the face of others' tragedy, we all have this selfish little part of us deep down that can't help wondering how this might inconvenience *us.* "Are you going to get bored of me?" "I don't know." For a man who has such a liberal relationship with the truth, that one line from Joe catches the light as a glimmer of rare, raw honesty. And now it's time to hit enter, before I think better of it and backspace this entire screed, but yeah. This show's beautiful nuance assures it a long, rent-free life in my brain.
