Speaker: Dr. Alex Damm Respondent: Dr. Noel Salmond
Dr. Alex Damm is a scholar in the Department of Religion and Culture at Wilfrid Laurier University, with a focus on early Christianity. He also has a longstanding interest in Mahatma Gandhi’s life and teachings. Dr. Noel Salmond is a professor of religious studies at the College of the Humanities, Carleton University.
Dr. Damm edited Gandhi in a Canadian Context: Relationships between Mahatma Gandhi and Canada, a collection of essays exploring Gandhi’s impact on Canadian society and the influence of his teachings on non-violence, peace, and social justice in Canadian politics and culture. The book covers themes such as Gandhi's understanding of Canada, his role in Canadian higher education, and his impact on movements for peace, human rights, and the environment. Through this work, Damm illustrates Gandhi's lasting global influence and how his philosophy continues to inspire Canadian movements for peace and justice.

I don't understand how the organizers of this talk believe that Alfred's behaviour could have been addressed in any fair or adequate way during this event. That was just an excuse given by Dr. Salmond to avoid having to deal with the dept.'s choice to continue to uphold someone who intentionally harms indigenous women and 2spirit people, whether the dept. was aware of it prior to inviting Alfred or not.
