Abstract geometric oil paintings? (That’s me!) Each one of those requires a different pricing system to find a specific kind of collector. So fun!!! ❤ I'd just made myself three lists a few days ago with the same idea, but mine was more to use up my vast array of supplies and to as prompts (I am more of an upcycler!) My lists are printed, cut into strips and put into 3 baskets. Colours, items and tools. I've done a fourth list called concept too, but narrowing down with 4 categories is a bit toooo specific 😂 So so much fun...and like you said, no blocks, just creativity!!!

My pricing exists somewhere between the gut reaction and the material based pricing. When I first started selling in college it was all gut reaction. Over the past 10 years I've slowly bumped those prices up to include time spent, materials, size, and complexity of the design. Every couple of years I bought my prices up 25 or $50 to adjust for both inflation and my better skill level

What an incredible idea! For me it's the time between paintings, when I need to "rinse" my brain of the previous work and get into the next idea that I do my experimentation. I don't know how you feel, but when I finish a large work I feel elation at first and then I slip down into a funk for a few days. This is the danger time when I can slip into all the self doubt and feelings of futility. I don't wallow in it for long, but having a strategy like this will really help to motivate me to move on. One thing I always try to do is to have an idea for the next work before I finish what I'm working on currently.

Thank you for this! As someone who MAKES and sells fancy art supplies (hand-dyed thread for lace-making), I end up a bit sad when I hear that people have bought my threads, but not used them. I love seeing what people have created with them. Save them for the "right" project, sure, but I would hope that my threads would inspire you to start that "right" project. I want to know that people are getting value for what I have created and are enjoying the materials enough to actually use them. I spent many many years saving my nice supplies, but now days I am a lot more excited to bring out the better quality stuff and use them, partially as a way to thank the people who made them. Additionally, as I was starting out in lacemaking, I was given a lot of high-quality thread from older lace-makers who were no longer able to work with the very small thread or the darker colors because it was too hard to see them. While I appreciated receiving these supplies, it also inspired me to try to use the more. Now, I'm over 40 and finding myself needing stronger and stronger glasses and I am inspired to use more of that small thread before it will be too late for me and I no longer get the joy from working with the small thread.
