Dirty Old Town - Dónal Clancy

I was inspired to do this song when I heard the original Ewan MacColl recording. It was so different and refreshing compared to the ‘Irish Pub’ version we’ve become accustomed to. The guitar part is inspired by Big Bill Broonzy.

I just found your arrangement. I played the Longest John’s arrangement at my brother’s funeral last week. He was an avid sailor. It fit. I will forever think of my brother as Bold Riley. Your arrangement is at the top of my very well done!
Wonderful!
Beautiful playing
I've never heard of this version with the extra lyrics but, I like it!
Excellent work Donal. You definitely carried on your father's amazing voice.
Excellent, a fine version of Peter Bond's song.
The best version of a song that I heard as a child around five. It probably was a trio I first heard. While searching for the lyrics I found yours to be the most inclusive in verse and the finest. Thanks.
This is a lovely haunting song
Hi Donal, Mind blowing song, singing, playing and sound quality. Who wrote that deadly song? Regards, Paul, Dublin.
thank you for your vidéo of D. Clancy that please to my Irish friend which has his birthday today.
Well done!
Damn, this version is amazing!
❤❤❤❤
Donal, I'm enjoying you're tune playing,. I'm making guitars aimed at trad players kind of looking toward the old blues guitars of the 20's. If you're ever around Mayo we might be able to hook up play a few tunes ❤️
Wheeeee!
Iontach!

Great sound, I have a G7 myself, love it.
Another G7 long-time owner here.
I also have a G7 🍀
Beautiful!
One of my favorite songs. I only knew it by June Tabor… this version is nice too. Words to this song are absolutely beautiful…..
So this is my favorite performance of this song, and I would be FOREVER grateful if you could please make a tutorial video for this song!!
Волшебно! ❤
Волшебно! ☘
Nice to see the tradition continuing
More boring
Great to see you carry on the family talent!
Donal, I was listening on You Tube when this video came up, I was off in the kitchen, all alone and I thought I heard Liam. I am so happy I am listening to you. You have lightened my heart.
Delightful, singing and guitar both !
More please!
Good to hear your voice again!
nice work man!
Good job
@Donal You’ve a full, rich voice and truly excellent guitar playing skills - such a pleasure to listen to! You’ve a different style than your father (though with enough echoes of him to bring comfort old nostalgic ears) so you stand in your own right, not just coasting on the Clancy name. I believe Liam would be so proud and happy for you - and for us you will bring the Clancy legend and the old songs, to our children’s children. Thank you.
Irish emotion = world wisdom.
Thank you Donal. Your father and family were magnificent...and you are equally the same. Carrick-on-Suir.
Excellent guitariste (ex.membre du groupe Solas) je ne savais pas qu'il chantait aussi. Très agréable à écouter.
Great guitar playing, you've certainly mastered the instrument
This is probably my favorite version I've heard of this song. Your voice is fantastic.
Unbelieveable beauty. The playing and the singing. I love that song and you give it a new soul. Cheers!
Great version of The broad majestic Shannon
His father will never be dead while Donal is still alive and singing .
Great version
Awesome picking Donal....back in the mid 80s when living in London...I went along to a Folk Club in Finsbury Library run by Ewan and Peggy....such a masterclass! Thanks for stirring memories
Nice1 Donal enjoyed that
Great cover of Cocaine Blues. Is your cover based upon Nick Drake's version of 'Cocaine Blues' from his record 'Family Tree'? If so are you in the same key as the record? If not who's version is your cover based upon?
Superb voice and sound making for easy listening. Thankyou. R.
Gorgeous!!
Great accompaniment....excellent rendition.
beautiful sound and music make peace of my mind.
