Here comes the rain again...

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Norway, August 27, 2015. So barely 5 minutes after I get to the top, it starts POURING. Fog, lightning, thunder, sleet (hopefully you can see it). I thought I heard the air sizzle just before the lightning struck, but it was far away based on the thunder. It's been raining everywhere I've gone in Norway so far.

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Norway, August 27, 2015. No barriers or fences. Kids come up here too. Everyone hangs their feet over the edge at the top.

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Norway, August 27, 2015. This is one of the "organized rockslides" that the trail is made of. And not the worst one either.

I, Claudius - Half Wit Beats Senate
"Ulysses, on the other hand, when he rose to speak was at first silent. He kept his eyes fixed upon the ground. There was no play nor graceful movement from his sceptre, and he kept it straight and stiff like a man unpracticed in oratory. One might have taken him for a mere churl and simpleton, but when he raised his voice, and the words came driving from his deep chest like winter snow before the wind, then there was none to touch him, and no man thought further of what he looked like." - Iliad, Book 3
Sterling™. Grace Under Pressure.
this is the only serie I kept
The best serie I´ve seen in my life!
In my mind, one of the best series ever.👍
The emperor is like a power broker, the senate miscalculated its real power based in constitutionality, that is when another institution, the Praetorian Guard, although it did not appear in time to save Caligula, it did for Claudius a logical successor with what they leveraged to surpass the senate in legitimacy in front of the people that at the end of the day what really matters
Most people forget that the republic and the monarchy are not so different, the monarch being a guarantee against the abuses of the "high men" just as in the republic the "high men" are a guarantee against the abuses of the guarantor The people is people because it does not stand out, that is how it was and will be for the times of the times
Derek Jacobi is a magnificent actor.
Absolutamente 🔐 seguro; LAMEJOR
The guard over his right shoulder looks like the same guard in Life of Brian!
This series needs to be watched again. I fear history reapting itself. 😢
Indeed. The 🍊🤡 could be the next Emperor declaring himself a god.
I watched this serie here in Sweden in 1976. I was 8 years old and I just loved it and then my fascination started of the roman empire. Great actors.
Same here from california. Watched with my father nightly. He even allowed me to stay up late with him to watch.
Δυστυχώς η τηλεόραση δεν δείχνει αυτές της παραγωγές πλέον....!!!.....
Ok. It’s time for me to watch this brilliant series again. Completely faithful to the novels by Robert Graves I’m sure he would have loved it…
@amtRemember awesome! Thanks mate
Brilliant series, but the bad trumpets made me wince.
Half wit beats Senate...sounds like today
¿What went wrong with casting today? Derek put us in front of a convincent Claudius. What a marvelous acting.
Saw this series as young teenager when it was first broadcast. It ignited a love of learning history and is still amongst by favorite shows.
For me this was the all time greatest series produced anywhere, ever. Brilliant from start to finish.
This was a brilliant show, my whole family never missed an episode.
Riveting.
Wow!
is this supposed to be a comedy?
Derek Jacobi will forever be Iggle Piggle
I remember this series from the 70’s well, encompassing the rule of both Caligula and Claudius. Claudius was certainly no halfwit, rather a notable emperor and effective administrstor during his 13-year rule. Caligula, in contrast, was probably stark, raving mad.
Wow, this looks amazing. Everything from acting to camera work seems unlike anything in modern television. Gonna give it a try, for sure.
@amtRemember Thanks a lot !
What a time that must have been to live in! No phones in sight, just boys having good old fun and executions!
Only two men ever succeeded in conquering Britain (or at least the major party of it): Emperor Claudius and William I. Claudius succeeded where even Julius Caesar had failed to establish a permanent Roman presence. He was no half-wit.
Derek Jacobi is fabulous. My first opportunity to meet him as a great actor. Unforgettable.
Senators = oligarchy. There is only two true governments powers, either, oligarchy or monarchy. Guess which system, the longest running empire in world history used ?
They used tyranny. Which is the only truly efficient form of government. As history has clearly demonstrated time and time again.
I was expecting to see John Cleese in one of those soldiers' uniforms
Half wits are in power almost everywhere, it can't be that difficult.
Back in the day when TV drama was real drama. It's time programming of this quality returned.
I loved watching this series on PBS in the 1980s/1990s. Sadly, I can't find good quality videos of all the episodes on UA-cam. Or am I just not looking in the right places? Can anyone help?
I grew up watching this. I am grateful for it.
Loved this series
this is possibly the most brilliant television in history. It's monumental. it's not Superman, it's realistic
If Jacoby is emulating Tourette's syndrom, he is doing it very well.
The praetorians predate Augustus though, they already existed during Scipio's time
There were only two TV theaters in Europe that time, that was BBC first and Polish Television Theatre second. Both presented classical and contemporary spectacles at the best levels of scenic art.
German Government as of today has half the humble or wits today. Greetings from germany
This is BBC at his finest hour.
Brilliant
For anyone interested: you might want to look at 'Cadfael' where he plays a medieval monk solving murders. I think it was shot around the same time and reminds me a lot about this series, just less continuity in other characters and less tension because it lacked a few real antagonists
Old stuff finds you on UA-cam; you don't find it. Great Scene and acting!
Superb acting.
the acting here is p'ppppppp'ppp perfect.
Beautifuly camera work .
the about 40 VOLUMES on ETRUSCAN HISTORY that Claudios wrote ( probably one of the LAST Etruscan speakers by then ) have never been found EXEPT FOR A CLUE… THEY MAY BE BURIES IN THE VILLA DEI PAPIRI as there may be at least a copy still to be unrolled…
Biden before it was cool
Laudius was most certainly NOT a half-wit. He just pretended to be one to survive.
