A tidbit on the "inefficiency" of kata techniques and how it comes to down to perspective as to the efficiency of the motions. Just a basic technique gang! Not even a scratch on the surface of what goes on in kata. Thanks for checking ISKU!

      Ju Jitsu written is always a eurpeanised version. Also in Germany Ju Jutsu as Jiu Jitsu are modern mixed arts. Jiu Jitsu is also mostly a westernised version. The pure japanese is written Ju Jutsu with the style name like fore exampe Fusen Ryu Ju Jutsu. In Japan Ju Jutsu is only a term . They always have also the name of the style and they can diifer greatly.

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 6 років тому

      Alessandro Mario Rebuscini they are the same thing. Kakie is okinawan dialect and kakete is more mainland Japan dialect.

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 6 років тому

      I could have been a little more specific. Kakie is the practice of the skill. Kakete or kakedi is the actual application.

    You said the starting position of the hand holding the scabbard to the blade shows the skill of the wielder. Does that mean it's considered arrogant for a beginner to start with their hand half-way up the blade or further?

  • @VideoPaladin
    @VideoPaladin 7 років тому

    You make it clear that Chiburi is mostly symbolic. Is Chiburi just the action of getting the blood of the blade and ready to strike again or sheath, or is it also a symbol that you are done with fighting and will put the blade away at once? Basically, do you only do Chiburi once you are finished with fighting or do you often use it after a cut before going back into a ready stance?

  • @VideoPaladin
    @VideoPaladin 7 років тому

    I read in a book that I should curl the pinkie of my left hand under the bottom of the sword hilt and I notice you don't do this. Is this just a variation in style of holding the sword?

  • @VideoPaladin
    @VideoPaladin 7 років тому

    As a person learning Iaido on my own, I imagine I'd develop a "hodge-podge" of styles naturally, as you put it. But does that not just make it my own style? I get the impression you disapprove of this and is it frowned apon?

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 7 років тому

      Eldrich Blacklion if it was aikido, I would have called it aikido... it is jujutsu. I'm certain I've never insulted u. Why would u post something like that in someone else's page when u are ignorant of the style...?

    • @beardedwolf628
      @beardedwolf628 7 років тому

      Robert Rivers Why do you find it insulting when I assume a guy wearing an aikido garb is doing aikido?

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 7 років тому

      Eldrich Blacklion precisely... its not aikido garb. In fact, I'm wearing a montsuki, which aikido never wears in training. I'm wearing brown and blue, which aikido would never wear. Have you ever studied aikido or jujutsu?

    • @beardedwolf628
      @beardedwolf628 7 років тому

      Yeah, I practice jujitsu. There's a bunch of techniques here that I've never seen even though I've been doing it for five years. That combined with the aikido garb makes me think it's aikido.

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 7 років тому

      Eldrich Blacklion you practice jujitsu, or jujutsu. Jujitsu is not a word in Japanese. This is my point. I gather you train in Brazilian jujitsu or a derivative. I have trained in Classical Japanese jujutsu for nearly 30 years. The fact that you don't recognize the most basic of jujutsu techniques says a lot. However, I understand those like you with a narrow focus of martial arts might recognize this as aikido. Aikido has its roots in Japanese jujutsu, just as judo, Brazilian jujitsu, and hapkido do. These techniques are the tachi waza, or standing techniques. The ne waza, or ground techniques more familiar to ground fighting practitioners, would be in another video. Thanks for the comments.

    I'm not sure what part of Jujutsu BASICS people do not understand. By your logic, firearms training at the range is a waste because that's not how attackers really attack. This is all beginner material. And yes it works fine practically and at speed (I am a police officer.)

    • @jamesboyle2491

      Excellent video of basics. I practice Aikido and I love the style. Why do so many people have to say "but it won't work in real life". I'm 67 and wish I had known this stuff in my teens - not to punish others but to protect myself from bullies. Cheers.

  • @nizz0matic307
    @nizz0matic307 8 років тому

    eh...this just doesn't feel like something that would work in a real altercation. even with someone who literally has no fight training. and don't get me wrong, i learned a martial art that had 90% of these moves in it, and i thought the same thing back then as i do now watching this video. i dont think its wise to think a guy is going to throw a punch, and you're going to automatically throw over your shoulder and twist and fling his body around etc. some of the take downs are good, but its the ones with the least steps that can be done the fastest that are good. some of them really absurd.

    • @robertmrivers
      @robertmrivers 7 років тому

      Nizz 0matic sorry u feel that way. I'm a police officer and I use this system every day. U watch a BEGINNERS tutorial and an introduction to the art and shoot it down without knowing anything about it.
