the order of the differentials you write is wrong, it is dxdy and not dydx. I deleted the real values of the integrals' extremes on purpose and replaced them with parameters (a,b,c,d). The internal integral concerns the integration variable x, that is, the first variable you used to define the handle of the function f(x,y), while the external integral concerns the variable y. f(x,y)=∫_c^d ( ∫_a^b ( 1+x.*exp(-y) ) dx ) dy fh=@(x,y) 1+x.*exp(-y) a=xmin; b=xmax; c=ymin; d=ymax; you must pay maximum attention to the parameters a,b,c,d in the expression of the function above f(x,y). Why do you need to use .* and .^ at 5:32? we cant just write y * x ^2 with out the dots? I tried without the dots and it gave me a different answer. Why is that? I know it has to do with array operator and matrix operator but it still dont make sense if the array only has one element ( scalar)? Thanks.
Matlab's primitive is a matrix (ergo "mat"lab)... so when you are using y^2 it is assuming matrix-matrix multiplication Y*Y... here we are forcing matlab to recognize that this is an operation on a scalar.
