How to Export & Share your SketchUp Model
Architecture is a collaborative process and every role in a project is important. However, we typically all use different software packages, which can make it difficult to share our ideas and files. In this video I will show you how to export from your SketchUp Model and Layout Drawings in different file formats and using different platforms

Thank you, Ade
Excellent, u had suggested me to use outliner
3:17 In my case the yellow box does not match the origin position. Do you know what could it be?
I tried matching a sketchup render and a 3d render of that exact model and it's not working they don't match What should i do?
I have been looking for such precise tutorials for a long time, so thank you sooo much
Hi I want to ask when I export it to autocad the quality is not good, is there any setting that I can use?
Are you exporting from SketchUp or Layout? If you are exporting as a dxf/dwg then there shouldnt be a quality issue as it will be only linework that you can work with in AutoCAD. I would recommend turning off/hiding any graphical elements/imagery when you export though. It might be easier to not export the title blocks either and instead do this directly in CAD. Hope this helps
Thank you for the tutorial, it helped me a lot, greetings from Mexico!
You are welcom, so glad this was helpful for you. I am looking to build some more content for this channel. Is there anything in particular that i can help you with?
Fantastic! Thanks! Been using Sketchup for ages but only now pulled myself together to finally start learning the Layout. Great information!
You are welcome. Glad this was helpful. Layout is so under-rated and really turns SketchUp into something approaching BIM level. Is there anything else specific that you are looking for help with?
great
Thank you. Hope you found this useful. Please do let me know if there is anything else specific that you are looking for help with and I will record some more content
Great video, thanks! But how did you do the hatching in Sketchup? With Skalp?
Thanks. I dont use Skalp. I simply drew the hatches with linework in Sketchup and then saved this to my material library
so once I do this, can I export to my rendering software, in this case Lumion?
Lumion works alongside SketchUp to render in real time, as do some of the other rendering programmes like Twinmotion. This tutorial is more about creating quick 2D imagery using photographs of the existing context. Is Rendering something that you would like to see more content on?
@@skalastudio9544 yes
Thank you
You are welcome. Do let me know if there are other topics you would like me to record tutorials on
Can you share your template...?
Sure: www.skala.studio/courses
Tremendously helpful, no plugins needed. Helpful for different contour levels too. Great video mate!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks...was looking for this
No problem 👍
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
what version of sketchup are you using?
I am using 2024, but some of these videos were recording using an earlier version
Cool How do you number the door types to creat a schedual. This seams to be the bit Sketch up is missing.
You can add meta-data in the component attributes and run report to create a schedule. I teach this in more detail in my Drawing Formula course: www.skala.studio/courses
Your videos are very helpful
Thank you! I would love to know what other topics you are looking for help on so that I can make more videos
@@skalastudio9544 making sketchup Tips….
This is very good tutorial ! hopefully you can make many more A to Z workflow on detail in sketch up . may god bless your existence ! btw you really a bit look a like mr frank sinatra lol
Ha ha, thank you. I am working on some SketchUp modelling for architecture content. Is this the sort of thing you would like to see more of?
perfect,👍 but where do I find the insulation png?
thanks @bernischuh2828, I drew that myself in SketchUp then converted it into a texture
Nice series. European (and Aussie) users may relate to these videos more than others. Just being metric helps!
Thanks @Rudhamstile. I am from the UK so only really work in metric but all of the same principles apply for those working with imperial measurments
Layers ?? I wish ! Unfortunately, the clever folk at trimble had a brain explosion and ditched them years ago. Is there a reason you are running such an old version of SU? Seems like a good idea.
I tend to interchange between calling them layers and tags, I am still getting used to it myself. The reason they changed it was because they introduced Layers into Layout which has vastly improved it from a graphical control point of view.
9:32 good tip 👍🏽
Thanks
hello can halp me how to download sketchup pro for macbook free licence
It is a pretty cheap peice of software compared to other BIM programs and it is well worth the purchase in my opinion
Hey man it is great 😃😃
Thank you, Do let me know if there are any other SketchUp and Layout tutorials you are looking for
Great to see you posting content again Mark Well done
Thanks Dave
This is just for people using sketchup 2021 or older, now you can control the line style, weight and color of every sketchup tag on the same viewport, stacking viewports makes no sense anymore.
It is true that you can now associate certain line styles to different tags in SketchUp. This is great for drawing boundary lines and dashed demolition areas. However, you cannot yet assign different line WEIGHTS to tags in SketchUpm hence the need to stack viewports to get different pen thicknesses.
@@skalastudio9544 Hi mate, yeah you can actually change line weight by tag. You just change the 'edge width' when you change the line style from default.
One thing to note is, new versions of sketchup they are now called tags.
Yes, thanks
It's funny, I have been doing 3D details as well, similar to yours, and a few other architects and builders have been confused by them. I think they have been helpful. I also have created many different tags for different finishes and levels of insulation to have multiple details in one model.
Sounds great. I have always had really positive feedback, especially on site.
Very clear and concise, not to mention impressive. Well done and thank you. Earned my subscription.
Awesome, thank you!
First video I’ve watched of yours, a very clear tutorial! Very helpful, keep up the great work! 👌

Good work learning sketch up from Nairobi Kenya make more video's practice ..
More to come!
Very good. keep up the good work!. Thanks !😊
Thank you
Amazing but I think we can improve your method a little bit. You don’t need to create your details like this because you lose the connection to your model end up redrawing 2D stuff again and again . I think it is better to create your details model in sketchup and save a variation of it and bring them all to layout and use them as skrapbook and every time that you need them you just drag and drop them the good thing there is it will be easier for you to create templates and then automate the most of sketchup .
Thanks @bellousow2607. As with everything in SketchUp, there are a number of ways to do these things. I know architects you keep a library of detail 'viewports' in a layout scrapbook they they reuse. Personally I prefer to do as much in SketchUp as I can. I save these details as components and then create a new model, with my live building model inserted and then adapt or build these detailed vignettes around it. If the building design changes, the model updates and I just need to revise the details
Absolutely
Wow this is awesome, I was not aware that you can do a layout plan using SketchUp, thank you so much 😁 Would also love to see you make a rendering for this house 😊
Thanks @saqu.studio. This was a game changer for me too, it gives me complete control of how my drawings look which is something I found really quite difficult in the larger BIM programs. I am working on some more modelling focussed and rendering tutorials. Is there is a specific rendering package that you are looking to learn?
keep the good
Thanks
