Figured my first upload would be this somewhat rare 2018 F-150 Diesel! I didn’t know they were even a thing until this bad chad came in and completely blew my mind. Never did I consider it since it was just an F-150.
So here is the oil change process. I didn’t include the oil life reset because it’s the same as a normal F-150 or modern F-Series truck for the most part.
Just some facts about the 2018-2021 Ford F-150 3.0 Powerstroke
-
•Makes 250 HP and 440 lbs-ft of torque.
• Ford stopped making them because this Diesel was surpassed by our V6 Gas counterparts, the 3.3L (290 HP) and 2.7L (325 HP) Both making more HP than the Powerstroke, while returning better fuel economy, and now surpassed by the 3.5L Ecoboost putting down 430 HP and 570 lbs-ft of Torque. All this meant that there was less demand and sales slowed for this particular engine.
•Has a 12,100 Max Towing capacity with just under a 2000lbs payload capacity. (1,840 lbs)
•A durable and hardly any issue engine that can last as long as you care for it. Only issue as of now is not being able to get your hands on one.

THIS IS WRONG! Under no circumstances should you put the oil filter into the plastic housing and then onto the aluminum post! Ford has specific instructions on this. There is a rubber anti-flowback valve "the nub" that is easily damaged if you install the filter this way. If it is dislodged or damaged there is no replacement part, you have to replace the entire oil cooler. It's $4000 to fix. The filter HAS to be put on the post prior to the plastic cover. And the cover should be replaced with a torque wrench to 18 ft lbs. These engines are nothing to F around with, it's a Mercedes diesel, not a durmax nor is it really even a powerstroke.

You are correct. It’s something I have over looked and will put a disclaimer and correction on the way to do it along with an explanation when possible.

Whatever you do DON'T change your oil like this. Read my above comment if you want to avoid a seriously expensive mistake. I have owned a 2018 3.0L and now a '21. My first truck actually had this damage done by a ford dealership with no experience on the 3.0L, luckily they had a shred of integrity and admitted they broke my engine so I didn't have to pay for the repair. Their are tons of forum posts about how to correctly do the filter change, go read some of them and don't watch random people posting videos on youtube.

I did this today and my “extra” bolt on the side was 10mm not 11mm. I have a 2018 Lariat. I was able to complete the job, by rotating the skid with bolt still attached.

That’s really odd, but I’m glad the rest helped. Lol
